minna no golf 4 question (for those who've played the import)

hyperbolically metafictive
how do you unlock tournaments after the first 6? or how do you unlock new tournaments in general? the first 6 just showed up as i went through the game, but i'm not getting any new ones. i noticed that you get to play on new courses when you play matches against the hard versions of certain characters, but winning doesn't seem to unlock the corresponding tournaments. i've also managed to win these matches before the full 9 holes expire, but that doesn't unlock anything either. do i have to win those matches by 4 points? or should i be doing something totally different?

This doesn't help you at all, but I have absolutely no idea. I played the import to death and experienced the exact same thing as you, and my only solution was to play all of the match games and then to simply play tournaments over and over, trying different seasons and different play options (i.e. playing from the 'back tee') each time. I never did unlock all of the courses, but I think I ended up with about 10 of them. I just didn't have it in me to keep blindly playing the same tournaments in hopes of making something happen. :(

If you do figure it out, please let us know!

i was worried it might be something obscure. :/

well, if nothing else, it'll probably become clearer when hot shots 4 comes out. probably.

I sure hope so. Did you ever figure out how to get the Piposaru caddy? I wanted that more than just about anything and never found out how to unlock him.

If I'd waited I wouldn't have gotten some 80 or so hours of fun out of it at right around this time last year, with 2 friends who have since moved to other states!

Besides that, Hot Shots 4 is changed/improved enough that I'll be buying it, and re-living the experience all over again, when it comes out. Double the fun. ;)

It is kinda strange that a good FAQ for MNG4 hasn't emerged in the year that has passed, though, considering it sold over a million copies. Kinda sucks.

Heh, I was talking to Drohne. He got Minna No Golf 4 like a month before the American release.

I figured, I just wanted to justify paying $68 or so for a game I'm gonna buy again. It makes me feel better about the whole thing. :D

i'm willing to suffer through a little confusion if it means avoiding scea's "hilarious" voice work. :P and actually, the language hasn't been a problem - i can read enough of it to get the idea.

anyway, just unlocked a couple more courses, and i have a theory: when you score around 9 under in a tournament, an 18 hole challenge will open up for the corresponding course (basically you just play the course with certain special rules, and you have to make a certain score). win the 18 hole challenge, and a new course opens up. your rank also factors into this somehow...i think you're only eligible for the challenges when you've hit a certain level. i think.

edit: bobby - at gamefaqs, there's a document that lists a bunch of passwords that unlock various items. i haven't tried any of them yet, but you could always get the saru caddy that way.

Yeah, I was just checking those out myself. For some reason though, I'm not able to see the Japanese characters even though I do have Japanese language support. Have you had any luck?

the japanese characters display fine for me. if you're using firefox, go to "character coding" under the "view" menu, and select "japanese (shift-jis)." should be similar in other browsers as well.

VNZ on these boards is in the same situation as you guys, last I heard. No idea how to actually unlock stuff, but, yeah, he has the Saru caddie. I didn't think he was as cool as the regular caddies with their crazy dashing and stuf. :(

Doesn't provide more help than "keep trying", does it?
