Mistwalker

I for one hope that Mistwalker makes great games that have breakout sales success on the 360 in all 3 regions...

Are we gonna get anything playable from them anytime soon (Live demo perhaps) ?

Just because i'm a Sony fanboy doesn't mean I go around hoping other systems bomb. But for the most part people in this thread are being realistic. Are you telling me you have no doubts about a game being developed by a company who's previous games are Blinx and Pinobee? That's not doom and gloom, that's being realistic.

Pinobee was pretty good. :D

Did you happen to catch Dragon Quest VIII's November sales numbers, on a console that has over four to five times the userbase in the US that the 360 will have when BD/LO release?
Userbase isn't the end all, be all. Did DOA3 outsell DOA2 on a significantly smaller base? Did VF4 outsell VF3 on a significantly larger base? Why are the best selling fighting game, 1st person shooter, platformer and RPG this generation not on PS2?

The best selling exclusive fighting game is on PS2. Soul Calibur 2 "cheated" by going multiplatform.

Well, arguably, most of the sales for KOTOR came from the license. Jade Empire, a similar styled RPG from the same developers, didn't do nearly as well.

I would really love to see both Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey turn out to be quality games that sell well. I used to love the Final Fantasy series with Sakaguchi at the helm... so I've got my fingers crossed that he still has the magical touch.

Gooch hasn't been actively involved in Final Fantasy since 6, I believe...

SSBM outsold even SC2 with over 6 million units. Though SC2 did pretty well for itself at around 5.5 million across 3 machines. I'm not sure what's 3rd in line, probably Tekken Tag.

Sakaguchi hasn't directed a Final Fantasy since V. The man certainly deserves our respect and admiration, but it is an unequivocal fact that while he did in fact start the venerable series, it was Yoshinori Kitase, who first took over the series with VI, that has made it into the raging success that it is today.

QFT.

FF5 was the last one he actually directed, probably the most fun game in the series too. Not that I consider any of them amazing..

Obviously neither Blue Dragon nor Lost Odyssey will sell to Final Fantasy levels but they should be solid sellers worldwide if they're good games and marketed right.

and the whole point about Mistwalker games bombing... I hope that doesn't happen I mean we need new franchises and a company that at least can be another RPG powerhouse like Atlus and Square Enix.

Yeah, it seems 2/3rds of JRPGs these days are published by Square Enix.

"Unequivocal fact" seems a bit much. Final Fantasy was already a "raging success" when Kitase took over... if anything SCEA should be given the most credit with expanding the Final Fantasy brand post-Sakaguichi then with their brilliant FFVII campaign.

That is true as well. Never in my wildest dreams before FFVII did I think it'd go on to be insanely huge like it was then. It defined a generation of gaming and coupled with a few other stellar titles, created PlayStation to what it is today.

Thanks to Mr. Ram looks like MS is funding another title from Mistwalker.. I am sooo pumped for them..

I love JRPG's. Simply love them. This is the main reason I am such a fan of the PS2 and soon to be PS3. Now, I think these games have some merit and may just sell me a 360 down the line. But it will be at LEAST a year and a half before we ever see these games outside of Japan.

Depressing really.

I don't think these games will have a long translation que.. we won't see them being held up for 6 months, after their Japanese release, to come out in the States. No the will come quickly that much I am pretty sure of..
