Couttesy of DigitimesMitac Precision Technology (MPT), a member of the Mitac Group, recently received orders to manufacture the chassis for the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) console, with volume shipments to start soon, according to company sources.
The Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) also reported today that, following its December 12 launch, Sony expects sales of its PSPs to reach three million units by the end of the first quarter of next year.
MPT will initially produce 700,000 PSP chassis a month for Sony at its plant in Shunde, Guangdong Province (China), with total shipments likely to top 10 million units during the first year of the manufacturing contract, the paper said.
Taiwan IT makers had earlier predicted that Sony was likely to outsource the PSP chassis production to Foxconn Electronics
