until they get away from the pay-per-view model, the sport will never be truly mainstream.

Until broadcast companies are willing to cough up the money to replace PPV revenue, it's never going to happen, just like boxing. 600,000 buys at $50 is $30 million. Broadcast companies are NEVER going to make that up in an event with ad revenue because the amount watching isn't near enough for that.

Well, if the fights were always free, you'd build up a larger audience than the 500K-1M PPV buyers.

Maybe, maybe not. I think there's a different between team sports that everyone has a team to follow, and event sports like MMA where you watch 10 straight events and see 100 different fighters.

I think no matter what, there's a limited amount of people willing to watch boxing, fighting, or wrestling compared to the major sports, but many of that amount are willing to spend money to watch the events.

If every event this year were free, I doubt this time next year UFC would be drawing better ratings than they are now to be honest.

Anyone got a clue of who this is about?

"A relatively large MMA site has their ZUFFA credentials revoked this month due to some tweets that were published in late March/early April."

Uncle Dana KGB in effect. Another thing where UFC wants to play with the big boys in sports, handle criticism or things you don't like people saying better.

Jackpot.

Dana White has never been shy about expressing his feelings regarding the mixed martial arts press but this latest statement may be his most militant.

The UFC’s lawyers have demanded a retraction from www.cagepotato.com regarding a post they made insinuating, albeit in a humorous fashion, that Dana White had bet on the outcome of UFC fights in the past.

The claim that Mr. White would financially wager on the outcome of a UFC event is outrageous in the extreme.

Indeed, in the verified complaint we are presently preparing for Mr. White’s signature upon his return from Abu Dhabi, Mr. White expressly states under oath that at no time in the history of his association with the UFC has he ever financially wagered on the outcome of a UFC event.

UFC Attorney Donald J. Campbell

Mr. Campbell further explained that under Nevada law a demand for retraction is the first required step in the filing of a lawsuit seeking punitive damages against a party that has maliciously published defamatory statements about another.

The screenshot below shows Exhibit A.

Wow, really?

You've been spitting a lot of truth lately my good mma friend. I've been saying this all the time. It makes no sense that they're trying to grow this business yet their main source of broadcasting their events are PPVs and some channel that practically nobody in the United States has.

As seen on UFC.com.

I wonder what was going through their minds as these pictures were taken. Nate doing his meanmug, getting people all riled up because he's an illiterate gangsta type when he probably wants to be running a marathon or looking for gluten free alternatives to his favourite foods. At least he makes an effort for this TV crap.

Miller: "I am Jim Miller. I will be fighting in the main event of UFC on FOX 3. You can watch it."

@TheJasonMoles (CagePotato.com writer) - @DanaWhite Here is @CagePotatoMMA's retraction. http://www.cagepotato.com/retractio...cially-wagered-on-the-outcome-of-a-ufc-event/ We cool?

@DanaWhite - @TheJasonMoles not even close

@TheJasonMoles - @danawhite What must be done to resolve this professionally?

Looks like Uncle Dana will force these "MMA journalists" to act like professionals the hard way.

If only Dana could make UFC fighters act and dress like professionals too hey?

Hail to the KING baby
hoping mma gaf can help me solve a puzzle:

for the jonny bones jones fight i'm going to be in france. i'm guessing the hotel won't have ufc and there probably won't be bars open at 3 am where i'll be. hoping i can still watch it on my ipad or computer. is there a legit way to do this or will i be region blocked? seems like the ufc used to have "an app for that" but it doesn't seem to exist anymore (see dead link at: http://www.ufc.com/news/ufc-ipad-iphone).

going to be brutal sitting through that mostly horrible card at 4 am waiting for the ME but hey

Agreed. It seems like pretty typical satire for sports media, nothing overly harsh or out of line.

Hell people have joked about the NBA being fixed for a decade and bets made on games and it's actually TRUE. Stern hasn't sued anyone.

cool thanks look like there are a lot of ways to get it. hopefully internet over there works and there's not some weird unlisted georestriction

Got a 2 right when it came out. Hadn't used it much until about a month ago and now I'm getting back into it big time. Big time = a bunch of games of words with friends and draw something mixed with messing with garage band.
