I agree. Mid-range stuff is your best bet.

I used to be proud of spending 100-200 dollars on a cheap mattress, but I started to have more and more back issues. Last mattress we bought, we spent about $1000 On a Simmons Beautyrest. Doing much better now.

I should look into the Temperpedic pillows.

There are diminishing returns in everything. You are pretty much always best off buying something a few steps down from top of the line. Which is not to say that people who buy the top of the line are wrong either, it's all a matter of where your priorities are.

I have a $500 or so memory foam mattress that I got on sale from a store that was going out of business and a few sets of sheets none of which cost me more than $40, and a couple of cheap polyester filled comforters and pillows I've had for years and are now soft as can be, and I'm perfectly happy with this setup, but that doesn't mean i'd bash people that spent more or less than I did.

Nobody is advocating spending $400 on sheets. We're just say the jump from Walmart brand bedding to more mid-range ($100-200) stuff is well worth it for the extra comfort you'll experience every night.

I am. $400 isn't much when you consider you will spend 2920 hours per year using them.

Tempurpedic all the way. I have the cloud model and it kicks ass. I like the pillows too. It's hard to use regular pillows now.

For sheets I like high thread counts, but not all of those are equal. Some 800 count sheets still feel rough.
King size Tempur-pedic here, never going back.

You really should. You really, really should. I held out for a while, and I'm so goddamn glad I bought one. Wish I could afford a whole queen bed.

I can eat processed food for £5 a day or maybe dine a little more lavishly, does that make me bad?

LOL I didn't know this thread wound be bringing up emotions like this. A higher price of products can most certainly mean higher quality. But people here are forgetting that and it stinks of jealousy for no reason. I know in the OP I didn't mention $400, and I spent a lot, but not $400 worth as previous posters said you don't need to spend that much

I talked to a hotel in Paris I stayed in for work and it was eygptian cotton and goose down bed linen. After researching I sourced a good dealer and bought some. So I'd say try it, because if I've been eating fast food for all my life then I'll naturally be blind to other cuisines

My mom got me 850 count sheets this Christmas. Apparently they were only $10 from a flea market, so we'll see how those turn out :lol

I've had crapping beds since as long I can't remember. Sucks big time when you have a bad back which I got from playing Football. Thankfully the new bed I got is awesome, haven't woken up with a bad back at all since the new bed I got.
