Moana | Official Trailer

I'm so tired of these live action remakes. Not a single one has been as good as its animated original. 🥱

What I like about Disney is this...

I thought Tron Ares was a very good current Disney movie.

I don't like the rest of Pixar's stuff... it seems like the same old script.

I don't know if it's that I'm used to him being bald, the fact the wig looks insanely fake or just that he is getting older.
But the rock looks ridiculous lol.

Other than that looks about as pointless and soulless as all the other remakes.

There is so much CGI in these it's barely even "live action". It's basically a CG animated movie where occasionally real actors show up.

It looks like the whole movie was rendered with DLSS 5 ON...

That scene with the CGI pig. She is clearly not looking at it the right way. It would of cost a pittence in comparison to the CGI budget to use a real pig and get a genuine reaction from the actress. It's just so sterile the way they make movies these days.

She is uneducated and doesn't know the word princess.

Her father being a chief implies a tribal realm. His demesne was a single island holding in the first film making him something like a Baron at best and her titleless. Moana's current title would depend on how far their conquest of Polynesia progressed over the miniseries and sequel film. Did her father carve a path of conquest and form an island kingdom or did they continue on as a wandering tribe of island hoppers. I never watch Disney sequels making me unqualified to answer.

"I'm not a princess. I'm the daughter of the chief."

Literally what a princess is.

In Polynesian culture there was no princess. Her father being a chief doesn't make her a princess. That would have been more applicable towards the end of the 1700s when a monarchy was formed. Princess is applicable when rule and/or nobility is hereditary. For most of Polynesian cultural history, that wasn't the case.

who asked for this.
i actually really liked the animated Moana, maybe the only new disney animated movie of current era I liked.
Frozen, I just didn't get the obsession.

Are they gonna keep the scene where Mauli tricks Moana into running her hand thru the water as he urinates so her hand gets soaked by it.

Just stay away from my Hercules and Hunchback of Notre Dame....at least we still have the Princess and the Frog as the next live action buffer

But in Moana it seems pretty clear there is a hereditary dynasty, what with the rock stack.

So the ENGLISH word "princess", as in 'daughter of the monarchic ruler" does seem to apply, at least to the extent that mocking the difference is nonsensical.

Ah, Live Action Remake #479™

Looks like another shot for shot remake that does nothing new and everything else much worse. And probably shoehorning in a terrible new song about strong female protagonists.

And it will make a billion. FFS

My 13 year old daughter saw this trailer and hated every second of it. Its the next generation of "they ruined my childhood". So at least there's some hope for the future :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The live action remake slop actually make that money? I thought Snow White crashed and that was the norm

The hyperactive pace of animation doesn't translate to live action very well most times. So a lot of the sequences in the animated Moana won't work nearly as well in "live action" aka photorealistic cg as the motion and facial expressions won't convey the same information. I suspect this will do 'ok' but not gangbusters. The original is much closer in mind that something like Lilo and Stitch (which live action adaptation did do a bananas billion in box office) so I don't think there will be quite as much interest.

Still, they hewed close to the aesthetics of the original, like lilo and stitch (and very much UNLIKE Little Mermaid) so that may help, especially if they kept the budget under control.

Stick close to the film folks love, that seems to be the message. Lilo and stitch and now this. Versus little mermaid and snow white, or even Pinocchio. Seems like they learned their (very expenseive) lesson and are doing the same with Tangled, and I suspect they will if they do Frozen. Cast appropriate for the culture of the source and the original film.

They generally do pretty well. A lot of people love reliving their childhoods and that now goes for a range of generations. So you now have people who grew up with Moana wanting more of that. And you can go back to people who grew up with He-Man getting another of those films. I guess familiar is more reliable than original.

Lilo and Stitch is one of the biggest money makers of the last 12 months.

I have no idea why, it just is. Putting aside that box office success does not = a good movie. Just more proof that the average consumer is a fucking idiot.

At least they did SOME things different in Lilo&Stitch. This just looks like a 1:1 remake, and it's still full of CGI.
My 10 year old already asks when it's hitting theaters. God help us all.

At least Lilo and Stitch looked good. Don't know if it was a 1:1 frame for frame copy, never watched it but think it had some actual substance on its own.

The girl playing Moana in the live action. Is she even singing? Looks like they just playing the song track from the animated movie and she's just lip syncing it.
