In a shocking incident of mob justice, a 1,500 strong crowd broke into a jail in Dimapur district in Nagaland, and lynched a man accused of raping a girl.
The man, identified as 35-year-old Syed Farid Khan, was in custody after being arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a girl who was his neighbour multiple times between 23 and 24 February.According to one report, Khan dealt in second hand vehicles and had called the girl over for a meal but then raped her after she was intoxicated. He then reportedly took her to a hotel where she was sexually assaulted again.After the girl filed a complaint with the police on 24 February, Khan was arrested on the same day.

The mob essentially breaks into prison and kidnaps the man accused of raping student - then strips him naked, drags him four miles and beat him to death..The horrific attack on the man, who had not been convicted of rape, comes amid rising anger over the high rate of sexual violence in the country.

Some disturbing images is shown in Daily Mail of the crowd taking pictures of the man getting beaten up with glee . Kind of disturbed by this news. While I am angry at the increased incidents of rape in the country, mob justice of this kind is barbaric as well especially given the fact that this is still an ongoing case and the man has not been convicted yet. Pretty scary to see this happening in India.

What disturbs me most about this is that he was apparently targeted because he was a Bangladeshi illegal immigrant.

Incidentally, the state has been in the grip of an agitation over the issue of illegal immigrants for the past two weeks.

Rape is an awful and terrible thing but nothing justifies a lynch mob breaking into a jail to torture and kill the accused. That makes them monsters as well and doesn't solve anything.

Not to mention he was accused not convicted and the fact he was an illegal immigrant was also a basis for the mob as well, they attacked the police and attacked people's shops.

That's often a sign that people think the state isn't caring about a particular problem and punishing the criminals. Not that it makes this here right.

In South America some lyinchings and beatings happened to thief and robbers, and the people were always saing "Well ,the state is gonna let the robbers go in 2 days anyway..."

The girl is from a minority community in India as well (though in the majority where this happened), that are distantly related to Chinese and Tibetans, presumably it was a backlash from that community.

The mob was Christian, the man Muslim.
And even if they were Hindus, why would you bring caste up?
This also shows how serious the problem of Bamgladeshi immigration is in some parts of India. Entire demographics have been changed in some parts. Most Bangladeshis are Muslim and some of them bring problems of integration, crime and terrorism with them. It's harsh but thats the truth. Doesn't absolve the crowd here but it shows the side effects of unchecked immigration.
