Modding the impossible: PStwo?

I'm not huge into the modding scene, although I used the GameShark trick to play imports on the Dreamcast, and later used the soldering method (opening up my Gamecube and attaching wires to the motherboard) in order to play imports on the Cube.

I've never read up on ways to mod the initial PS2, but from what little I did hear it's a pain in the ass. My question regards the new slim PStwo. Anyone opened it up?

I'd like to pick up some PS2 imports... but am I better off just picking up a Japanese unit, or can I mod it?

You can easily tape the drive sensor so the PStwo thinks the door hasn't been ejected. You will also need to get the Swap Magic discs to play those imports as well if you are going the non modchip route for the PSTwos. Although, my opinion is if you are going to mod your PS2 or PSTwo, go for the modchip instead of the swap discs.

Strange, I heard the original ps2 was easy to mod, at least to the point of reading dvd copies. I've always wondered if a modded ps2 (new or old) would recognize psone copies.

Yep, taping the 2 internal switches and using the SwapMagic discs will "mod" your PStwo. I've done it, and had no problems so far.

If you use a modchip, also apply one of the fixes for the voltage, voltage in pstwos is really bad. So it could kill your laser motor chip, your laser itself, or both, after little use.

Ironic thing is, the fix helps correcting these problems for original units too. :lol

when I bought my used PS2 w/ mod chip I didn't know this. As a rusult when I used the network adaptor if fuckied up my laser, the thing is a paperweight now. Bah.

Magic switch? If I recall correctly, these were for old self-boot modchip, recent mods now have efficient sleep modes.

I meant the original slimline PlayStation 2 units, not the old designs. But my old PS2 was also fried like yours.
