I don't see a reason why OT is locked down, seems an extreme overreaction. For the sake of the site it should come back because every hour more and more people will be migrating out.

I do not agree.
I won't elaborate too much as to follow the rules against political discussion, but I do not believe that at any point in time singular rude statements from Trump are newsworthy generally speaking. Something that could be posted in an OT dedicated to him sure, but not important enough to warrant individual threads covering a significant portion of the off-topic section. There are tiers to how important something is and how much it affects people, and I just don't think that off-topic being spammed with things Trump said in the week are notable enough to be worth covering the section. It just made GAF appear extremely politically biased and made it harder to access, view, and notice other threads. In addition, since the threads were made entirely on something that he said during the weak, there was very little that could be discussed, making the threads be full of repeated, low quality posts, thus decreasing the quality of the forum on the whole and encouraging users to not put effort into their posts.

He was admin for 11 years after the fact, a fact that most, if not all all, the moderators knew full well. I'm assuming you didn't know until recently, but that's not the case for them and a lot of users that are leaving, and they are going to run the new forum. Doesn't that strike you as a bit hypocritical?
I'm not defending Evilore, I do think he's probably an ass, but I do wonder how these people managed to be so happy here when he did all of those things years ago.

Id be interested in the actual traffic on the OT section. I wouldnt be surprised if it was nearly a 50/50 split.

I think Evilore may be losing sight of just how impactful Neogaf was/is/could still be to millions of people in not just the gaming space.
I have been a very active user of Gaf both gaming and OT (approaching 10,000 posts despite my junior status for posting one too many anti-trump threads).
Gaf is a huge part of my life and Id hate to see it devolve into yet another intolerant shitposting haven for hate. We have enough of that with FB, Twitter, and Reddit in our lives.
I dont like all that has happened, especially outright calling someone mentally unstable as a defense, but I realize people make mistakes and I do think/hope the community is bigger than one persons mistakes. I also do realize the most recent incident could very well be a fabrication against this sites founder, but I do think calling out your accuser as mentally ill isnt the right way to go about the situation. Hopefully EL realizes that and is able to comment on it at some point. At this point I think a mass exodus of the site is somewhat knee jerk, and I hope Gaf in general can recover.

I agree that it should return, the sooner the better, but not exactly as it was before because the politically driven topics there absolutely dominated the forum like an unstoppable cancer. It might have been a lot more manageable if all political discussion had been relegated to the PoliGaf thread, similar to how other internet forums have handled politics and religion.
The GOP's implosion is a trainwreck 10 years in the making. It'll take a while to hit its final notes.
Sounds like an improvement to be honest. Most of that is incredibly toxic bottom of the barrel garbage.
Either way though, Neogaf will forever be fractured from this "incident."

GAF as we knew it as recently as Saturday will never recover. Too many key people have already left.
Without Off-Topic, as well as no arbitrary restriction on political or social issue discussion, nothing even resembling what GAF was will ever be possible at this URL again.
I'm sure NeoGAF will live on for some undetermined amount of time, but it's becoming increasingly clear that the community that brought and kept so many of us here is already long gone.

It gets "shoved in your face" because gaming is a white nationalist haven. When you've got shit like gamergate trying to chase women out of the industry it's impossible to talk about gaming and pretend everything is honky dory. Resolution and console wars are hardly the most important thing happening here. No one needs to "bait" these people; they've been trying to brigade gaf for years.
When Wolfenstein II triggers people into arguing that neo-nazis are the true victims of its ad campaign, it's pretty obvious something a little more sinister than loot boxes is taking root in the community.
As a lurker who stuck mostly to Gaming side I have to say I've never found this to be the case at all. Maybe you're just more sensitive to the stuff then me but I feel most gaming topics I've read were filled mainly with insightful and intelligent/funny focused discussion once the first-post/hot-take phase ended.
