Monitors Unboxed - Hands on with MSI 32" 4k 240 QD OLED Monitor

I too thought it was a great price relatively speaking

I was expecting $2000+

Just thinking a monitor that costs like $300 to actually build doesn't justify the r&d cost.
I'm sure it's a great monitor though, albeit a bit too small for my taste.

To me, monitors are a cheaper alternative for a decent/good gaming display compared to TVs, so seeing these $1000+ monitors is kind of a bummer. Hoping for some lower priced 32~36 monitors from lesser known brands with newer features in the near future.

These monitor prices are insane.
You can get 27 144/160hz monitors for 400-450, 32 for 550-650 so its great especially if you're like me and you work from home sometimes. I can't imagine using these for work with the pixel layouts but if you're 100% gaming it's totally worth it.

I'm sure it's nice & all, but after 6 yrs on my Alienware AW3418DW, I can't imagine ever going back to 16:9 monitors. 🤷‍♂️

Sure, then we have oled panel monitors for going twice that, no way these smaller panels are twice the cost. Like $50-$100 difference and 2x or more the price.

Still triangle, but the increased pixel density makes it more tolerable.

triangles with big black spots. In the video, i still see the color fringing looking off.

WOLED QDOLED will never get text right until they go conventional RGB without black spots

Nice preview, and on the positive side of expected price range for me. I'm eager to see how these monitors are going to end up in the rankings against each other. ..I need it now.

FWIW, I have last year's QD-OLED monitor from Alienware and I feel like this is a mostly overblown issue. It's actually not dissimilar to old shadow mask CRTs which also had triangular pixel structures and so is a bit like going back in time in that sense.

For a bit of history, the ClearType font antialiasing method was originally created because traditional font rendering looked so poor on the (then new) square LCD pixel structures. But this had the drawback of looking a bit worse on CRTs and QD-OLEDs are now suffering for the same reason. There's likewise nothing preventing Microsoft from updating ClearType to account for QD-OLEDs though they haven't done so yet.

It's also fun to mention that older Windows versions (98/XP) look fantastic on this monitor when there's no ClearType to ruin it.

Gor my hands on this URX as an open box buy from Best Buy that had a broken stand which is fine as it will go on an arm anyhow

Will start putting it through some gaming next week when I get back home and see how it stacks up against the LG 32" WOLED
