for those struggling, be sure to download the extras add on online from within the game since trenya's boat can save your ass alot.

Is that free or paid DLC? I'll get it either way, just curious.

You know this game is epic, after killing a particular mob. You shout.

"FUCK YEA! You motherfucking piece of fucking animal shit I'm going crave out your genitals and use them as weapons on your fucking friends as well!"

Really good sense of accomplishment. But again it's fucking hard with the shitty ass camera.

out of all games I've played in the past 5 years, I can say the MH series has had the best grasp of the feeling of accomplishment no matter the gripes people have.

If ur a gamer, and you haven't at least killed a Kut-ku, your balls haven't dropped and never will till yuh do.

:lol :lol :lol :lol my thoughts exactly

Didn't get online last night but:

Finally, that giant fucking crab! Gaoren. I didn't kill it, but I managed to damage it enough so it limped off to make crab-screaming noises another day. Not that it matters because I've killed the crab several times before online and everyone would always disappear off when it was my turn to post my Urgent. Bit of a stupid and annoying game design there that only one person can rank up with their personal Urgent, meaning if 4 people online need to do that Rank Up they have to fight that fucking Crab 4 times.

So finally ranked up enough to do High Level quests at HR4. So definitely need better swords now. What shall I get/go hunting for?

I got my hands on a PSPgo this weekend, I don't see the problem with playing MH, the only big difference seemed to be that you don't actually see your fingers on the shoulder buttons.

I take that back, its harder to use the camera directions and move.

Well that electric horse was fucking annoying to fight. I need 2 of your tails horse. Are you going to give them to me from my first carve?

No, it has given me none.

I think you need to hit him at least once in the tail. Even if you attack bounce. I killed him 3 times waiting to get one tail with no luck. The 4th time I hit the tail a couple times. I received one tail as reward, then the 5th time I did the same, and received another.

I just don't know which sword to focus on upgrading for right now.

- Sentoryu Wolf: requires parts from a G-rank or High rank Garuga I guess? I'm not done fucking that purple armoured chicken after all. + blue sharpness looks delicious as does affinity.

- Blue Claw Blade: requires a Pincer, which I can't seem to get because it's hard to destroy that big crabs claws that it always keeps high in the sky. + only need that one item, good power, loads of green sharpness.

- Devil Slicer: requires kirin thunder tails which I have a feeling are going to be annoying to grind for. + good power, loads of thunder attribute.

- Fatalis Sickle: i assume this is well out of my current reach. + ITS OVER 1000! (Attack power)

Tips?

I did Devil Slicer. Its effective against some hard monsters (Tigrex, Plesioth, All of the crabs, nargacuga, rathalos / rathian) and the upgrade for that one (True Devil Slicer) is rather easy to obtain, only for the Pale Khezu Steak it needs. I did almost all Nekoths quests with that sword.

Fatalis Sickle is good, but I havent fight one yet. Im rank 6 (or 7? I cant remember) and I havent seen one yet. So I guess you should do one of the others first.

Also, farming for kirins tails is not that hard. And when you get those 2, you will almost get all the materials to do the armor, which is rather ncie and have good defense.

I don't have this problem. I was farming Black Diablos yesterday.

what? how? I cant move the camera with my index finger while moving the player on the go... unless I use my middle finger and index finger to control left and right camera which is awkward as fuck.

Just equip a hammer and he goes down asap.

Oh what the hell, I finally get one Kirin tail and the quest disappears for a while. What the shit, thats lame.

elder dragons are species in extinction :lol So that means they are not always available, and when you kill one, other will appear but maybe in other area (altough kirin at lv5 star is always there :lol).

Some bigger elders like kushala daora, if you dont kill him in one quest, but you managed to, lets say, cut the tail. The later quest will be with the same kushala daora, so it will lack the tail, until you kill it and other appears (those fuckin elders horns!!! if you break the face of elders you will get 1-2 horns for every kill, so if you need 4 horns, and you need 3 quests to kill it, well, you do the math :S).

if kirin doesnt show up, do a quick quest, like a gathering quest (quickly deliver the paws ticket or whatever the name is) and check again with the granny.

Any tips on goldenfish hunting? I gots 1 quest to make a Clear on it and it's the 8 goldenfish quest >_<

You can bring Goldenfish Bait (by combining Firefly and Snakebee Larvae) and just go to the area with fishes, you see a goldenfish? yes? great, use the bait... no? then dont waste any and just go off the area and enter again and check if they appear.

Tab the left trigger to auto centre the camera?

lol ok... still takes a while >_<

I was skeptical at first but I've killed the G rank Kushala Daora 8 times on my PSPgo (once using the PS3 sixaxis controller via bluetooth!!! very nice indeed) and i find that i get along just fine thanks mostly to how much tighter the analog nubbin is. It took a good hour of failing before rewiring my brain from the hundreds of hours spent playing on my old PSP, but it was mostly getting used not fudging up with the smaller face buttons. My index finger hook works the same as it ever did since you can press the shoulder buttons from the sides (just under the screen). Other than the fingerhook I've always gotten by just fine adjusting my camera when the analog control is taken away from the player between character animations. I'll also find myself sometimes holding the run button and using my right thumb to control the character since there isn't a screen's space between face buttons on the PSPgo, and I'll use my left thumb to manipulate the camera. But I mostly just fingerhook the camera since it's second nature after all these years.

That's my impressions of the MHU experience on PSPgo, and after a few days spent with it I don't find myself going back to older PSP designs for any reason and I thought MHU would be useless on the new hardware. To my surprise the best part has been that new analog nub, it's tighter and doesn't seem as slippery. It's hard to explain, but i find myself aiming better and rolling out of animations in the exact direction i wanted to.

PSPgo + component cables + SixAxis controler = heaven on the couch, or at lest 'till MH3 gets here...

Wait till you get to High Rank though.

Garuga and Kut Ku were my bitches, but when I fought my first High Rank Garuga, OMG, STOP PECKING SO I CAN ATTACK.

Seraphis Cain said:
Oh yeah, finally took down Tigrex!

And Yian Garuga isn't nearly as hard as I'd been told.
The one eared garuga is an entirely different monster. He is what you've been told about, and you can fight him in the cat quest.

I assume that's your first Rathalos?

He's very open while he's shooting fire on the ground, wail on him when that is happening. If only you used hammers or greatsword, you can very easily land a powerful blow while he's landing, specially since Hammers have Low Wind Press while charging superpound. He's soooo fun to hammer.

If he's flying but not moving match, sheathe your weapon. Be prepared for the even that he stings you. It hurts a lot and poisons you (not good!). Do a superman jump.

If he flies in great circles, he'll swoop down on you after a while. This is a great opportunity to Flash Bomb him. Floors and stuns him and makes him drop a shiny.

solo Rathalos is pretty rough if you're just starting, but you can make it easier for yourself by stockpiling flashbombs and bringing flashbugs/bombmaterial. if you can get used to where he's looking you can knock him out of the air with a flashbomb. Cutting that tail off is also going to help a lot, and bash his face in when he's doing his growl animation. shocktraps also stun him for a good while (trap tool + genprey fang)

Rath takes a lot of focus, so if there's little enemies in the area get rid of them first

Ive killed hundreds of los's and he really is cake. when he flies up get under his shadow. time the come down so that you can get a few hits and roll to safety. During fireballs, take the tail off. Once the tail is off you can work on the wings, or just go for the head during the fire. The slash/roll is your friend, and always anticipate his charges. Your main attacking should be done when he's on his way down from flying up. He does this often, and if you swing when hes just getting close enough, you shouldn't be effected by the wind.

Flash bombs, and traps should speed this process up.

One of my good friends has been a Monster Hunter addict as far back as I remember. I finally got around to playing the Unite demo, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will probably pick it up, but can you please explain to me the huge appeal to the game?

Man, today's hunting was great. Seriously. When I started the day I hadn't even beaten Tigrex yet. Now I've beaten Tigrex, gotten my full Obituary set, beaten Yian Garuga, gotten the entire Garuga set (with Mask, not Helm), a Raven Torrent, and even a Rusted Hammer. And I finished upgrading my Farm as much as it could be upgraded at this point.

Anyone ever just had a really good hunting day like this?

The ups, and the downs of mh. You have days like this, and then you run into points where you cant get the upgrades you want, and everything just feels out of reach. I think You've just inspired me to play a bit.

Not had one like that for a while but can feel one is due, just finding my feet with Rajang and creating a few types of weapons and armor to go with it before I start trying to raise my HR level. Over 122hrs logged into the game and can't see me getting bored, bloody love it.

That sounds awesome. I need a PSP :( (That kind of progress is practically impossible in MH1, which is all I have to scratch my MH itch for now).

Checks Ebay...

Holy shit what were the odds that I would find this bundle when just searching PSP system?

Haha, wow. Get it man, totally. The PSP's got a lot of great games, but even if it only had MHFU it'd be worth the price. It's THAT good.

I know, I'm so torn (I can easily afford that but it'd irresponsible of me to buy a new system right now). So very, very torn.

Edit: Ok, finally manned up and placed a bid on it. Though only the minimum value, so I may be outbidded within the last minute or something.

If you can easily afford, irresponsibility is irrelevant. Also, this game will save you lots of cash in the future
(since you'll be having too much fun to even think about buying other games)

Lies the allure of Patapon and GoWCoO are too great! :lol. (I've been meaning to get a PSP for those for ages now). And that's not mentioning all the great Wii, PS3, PC and DS title to pick up this holidays (Already have Demon's Souls coming, still need to get so much more).

Edit: And a winner is me! I'll be joining you guys in thread more regularly in a couple of weeks time (Maybe a month if I have the willpower to keep the thing boxed until exams are over.
Very, very unlikely
).

Okay, no. Fuck off difficulty curve. I go to start my first High Rank quest against The Poison Fanged Duo (Hunt 2 Gendrome) and now a fucking Gendrome can kill be in 2 HITS? What THE HELL?

I have never quit a game to the XMB so many times like this.

You may need to upgrade your armor. What are you currently using?

So, if you buy the downloaded version of this game, does Background Loading still require a AC adapter so you don't drain the battery?

I don't know exactly how much raw defense will give you that set, it could be slightly low IMO. But you should also consider if you've leveled the armor, and if you use all the buffs (felyne kitchen, armor charm and armor talon, armor skin) to improve your defense. I don't remember what set I used when I began the High Rank Quests, I think it was a full Tigrex or Kirin, not very leveled, but at that time I used all the buffs I mentioned before, and I don't remember being killed in 2 Gendrome hits.

All the way up to the point they require Heavy/Hrd Armor Spheres, since theyre hard to come by. Just beat the Poison Fanged Duo quest anyway, was just surprised and terrified that Gendromes did that much damage, so god knows what higher level monsters are going to do to me :/
