Congrats! I love the dual tigrex. The two guys I usually do ad-hoc with hate tiggy but he is by far my favorite. Dual Nargas on the other hand....

Dual Nargas can be fun too with 2 HS/hammer guys and 2 gunners.
Dual tiggy is super easy once you get the best hammer, felyne heroics and andrealine +2 :p

Would you guys say that any weapon that feels comfortable to the player is a good weapon?

Or do you guys use a bunch of different ones for different situations?

Dual Nargas is a lot of fun with a group, but I absolutely hate it solo, and I am running around with Magnitude. I don't like to pull the felyne heroics adrenaline +2 and bombing myself... feels to cheap personally. I do like using RA+2 though.

I use all types but I do have sertain weapon types that I favor, it really depends on the monster. Hammers once you are good at them can take out anything quick, sns are fun too. If you are wanting to have a truely rewarding experience I would say go gun lances... I have been having a blast with them and when I take down a monster it feels so rewarding. It forces me to play smartly. Hammers - hit monster head till ko then hit head more, gun lances - do i move or block? Do i have time to wyvern fire? At least IMO.

Tigrex's moveset and properties can be a pain to deal with but he also has a good amount of openings also. Narga should be interesting when i get to him.

The bold is what i normally agree with but i wanted another weapon in my arsenal to learn so i went from Long Sword to Hammer.

A certain monster will force me to go with your second point though (Fuck you Plesioth :()

I got into this game recently...addictive huh? :P

Still feel somewhat noob-ish in many ways, the Khezu is giving me a hell of a tough time. Currently trying to get two fire sacs and a giant monster bone to upgrade to a weapon that should be good against it.

LOL I have been using the gunlance for about 80% of my play time. Looks like I picked a good one. For some reason it just felt good to me.

I will definitely try hammers out next, based on yours and Inifite's suggestion. I have to admit though, I did have my eye on a Bow.

I don't know, I'm more of a sword guy (GS and SnS) - played around with gunlances, even lances. Love the charging towards... my teamates, just for lulz and annoying them.

Everything is pretty much easy with it nowadays, most especially in P3rd. So you guys will have a field day using GLs.

Do try hammers, IMO, its more rewarding to KO and lock the shit out of them for your friends to pile on.

The Gunlance is interesting but i like moving around lot, especially with a weapon drawn.

As for the Bow its very interesting since you have to look at the different charge levels, how the ammo behaves (Rapid, Scatter, Pierce), what bow has the specific behaviors you would want against a monster and Coatings.

I use it against Plesioth along with the Light Bowgun and it continues my preference of being mobile. :)

What weapon are you using now? If you are still low rank you might want to try a bow or LBG. That way you can stand back and shoot him/learn his moves. Kut-ku bow is devastating to khezu and is fairly easy to come by.

I will only use bows or LBG with rapid thunder on plessy. i don't want to fight that thing any longer then i have to. Although i do have to give capcom kudos for making one monster in that game that EVERYONE hates fighting.

Its that damn hip check hitbox imo :( and as said in this thread before he's the main reason i switch to Gunner in this game. Basarios and Gravios are the others but thats more of a humor thing since Gravios tends to glitch out and do constant beams.

I hate that hip check. It took me about 2 hours straight to take downthe thing in the GS training.

Grav and Basarios are fun to DS with the Holy Guild Knight line and a power juice. Just get under and start demonizing.

I would have loved to play this game online with someone who was as new to it as I am.

Well I'm also looking to get an adapter for xlink kai if that's an option for you

I have all the components for a Devil Slicer except for one Kirin Thunder Tail. I fought the Kirin twice now and it's only given me one Thunder Tail. This thing is annoying to fight, it hides in the transition zone and spams lighting quite a bit and all of my weapons just bounce off of it. I've read that the Devil Slicer is a really good sword to have against Tigrex and the Ceanataurs/Hermitaurs but I was hoping I wouldn't have to fight this thing more than once. It's an annoying war of attrition.

I've used my best raw damage long sword, Guardian Sword (912), but it bounces off the Kirin far too much. If you target its head/neck just right you can score a direct hit but it's kind of threading the needle with how much it moves and how frequently you have to avoid the lightning it calls down. I tried out one of those dark weapons with dragon damage, Black Scythe (720, drgn 100) that worked out even worse than the Guardian Sword fight. I thought with the potential of dragon damage maybe the Dark Scythe wouldn't bounce off of the Kirin as much as my Guardian Sword, no dice. Now I'm going for a hammer run with my War Devil (988). The spin attack won't bounce off of that bastard.

It's an Elder Dragon and it only has two carves, with no specific weakness and no area you can target to generate specific drops. :/

Use a sword and shield. They don't bounce with green sharpness (their short down time also makes it really easy to dodge it's attacks). Hammers and hunting horns (capable of the anti-bounce song) also good against him, though if you hit his body, you'll still only do 1/4 damage despite not bouncing so you'll need to focus on his head (which can be tricky).

Now with Kirin I know places say it has no elemental weakness but I swear Fire hurts the thing more then any other element. Like Luigiv said... go SnS or i would even say LS with fire would be good too. Kirin is one of the more frustrating monsters in the game because of how cheap he can be, especially at g rank andthe fact that its almost impossible to tell if his lightning pillars will be around him or in front of him. Take your time and go for the face, your patience will pay off.

What is your HR? If you are still low rank you can go for the blackbelt armor to get a sharpness boost early on.

I'm Hunter Rank 5. I just made a demon hammer and smashed the kirin's head in. That fight is what got me into using hammers.

I've got a group of friends that I multi with which is the only reason I'm at high rank, for comparison's sake I'm just about to clear the village elder quests and move on to village high rank for the first time. I've had this game for how long? I have taken my sweet time doing this, completing all of the quests up to 5* but I want hr mats so I'm only pushing through the necessary quests to get the urgent in 6*. I will go back and eventually complete all of the village elder quests, even that nasty looking dual plesioth fight but I want g rank gear for that fight.

So nice to see this thread get bumped. This game alone made the PSP my most played system this generation.

I recently uploade a lot more fanart that I came across.

Dual plessy isn't that bad if you have a good thunder bow, and its even easier with a good gun and rapid thunder. I always gun plessy, that stupid hipcheck gets me every time.

See? Fuck you Plessy :(

Really starting to like using the bow now.

This game is 50% off on the PSN today, $9.99. Considering getting this now for my PSVita so i can play upscaled and with the second analog when the time comes =)

Worth every penny and more. GO for it!

very nice price.

Been in a lull (plus i've been busy with work) since i fucked up a Plessy Capture in one of those "Hunt all the Large Monsters " quest.

Went in with a bow with no coatings (by mistake).

Wow...I keep forgetting this is actually a real thing. Being able to DL all my PSP games and play with camera controls on the other analog might just make me buy a Vita.

OUch... It happens to the best of us man... I remember taking a LBG to a plessy quest and forgot all my shells. Had to deal with Normal 1 shot, needless to say I did not pass that one.

It was released in December of last year, IIRC. The USA and EU haven't seen its release, although.

What sucks was that he was ready for the capture but i fucked up the trap placement, had about less than a minute left and only one trap type can be out at a time

Felt bad man. :/

Thx for link, never knew this existed ^_^

I kinda miss playing this... this is also the game that primarily made the PSP my most played system (besides the Tekken games while riding the public trans everywhere in Miami).

Somewhat pissed MHP3 still hasnt even been considered releasing in the US. I understand its a financial thing most likely from capcom, but why not digital distribute it, save some costs?

Bumping because I bought this game back during the July sale. I finally got around to playing it. I'm having a really hard time. What exactly is this "claw" method I hear people talking about?

Is it really slow to begin with? I'm playing the training maps and I'm dying against some of the "easy" monsters once they group up on me. I'm playing the sword and board class by the way. I heard it's the easiest for beginners.

If someone can link or direct me to a place where I can get "better" at this game I would appreciate it.

Is there still an online community for this game in NA? The whole reason this game is popular is the social hunting. But I'm the only person I know who still uses their PSP.

^This is the claw. Lets you move, control camera and do actions at the same time.
PSP_Claw.jpg

And yes MH games always start slow because newbies need all the "getting used to" time that they can get.

Don't get ganged up. Try to get fights into just 1v1 as much as possible.

Dodging is better than dealing damage but taking damage at the same time. Don't get greedy with attacks.

People still play on Xlink Kai but I'm not sure about Adhoc Party.

Agreed with all of the points. Once you get the specific monster behaviours down the you can experiment a bit (like using a weapon that blocks instead of dodging, etc)

And while it looks arkward as hell the claw is the best way to leverage the camera in this game imo since your gonna fight lots of monsters where its best having the camera on them at all times so as to see what attacks they are trying to do. (*cough* Tigrex *cough*)

I play on the PSP Go and I find the claw much more difficult to replicate on it. I used to have a 3000 and I did the claw for a little bit, and while it was incredibly uncomfortable, it was doable. On the Go, I just feel that it isn't. I find myself setting the camera up in advance instead of being able to use it in a reactionary way. That could explain why I suck at this game, though.

Questions
I have probably 2k hours (sad I know) in MHF2 and MHFU and I have never used the claw. The best advice I can give is certain monsters are easier with certain weapons. Take Plessy for example, GS is a pain in the ass but Bows or LBG make fighting that beast a breeze. Tigrex is easy to stagger and beat with a GS. Learn the monsters moves, don't be afraid of failing a quest to get the monsters attack patterns down.

As for camera control I have found its better to get a sense of your environment and quick snap the camera around rather then constantly use the claw to keep the camera focused. Once you learn the patterns you will find it easier to not use the claw at all.

One of the best sites I have found is the wikia: http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_Hunter_Wiki

Enjoy, and feel free to pm if you hit any roadblocks. I am always ready to help! Good Luck!

The best advice I can give is don't give up! When I first tried Monster Hunter I was terrible at it, no matter which weapon I used. But I kept trying with different weapons and eventually found I was doing okay with SnS or Dual Swords. Then I graduated to Long Sword, which seems generally easier than the other large weapons, especially if you're solo and don't have to worry about knocking your teammates around.

Then when I was playing Tri, Switch Axe just "clicked" with me and I knew it was my weapon of choice from then on. I'll use GS and Hammer from time to time, but Switch Axe is always my go to weapon of choice. Of course that's not an option in Unite, so when I went back to work on my Unite game I decided to hone my Great Sword skills, and I've gotten pretty decent with that.

Like I said, just try different weapons, see how they feel... eventually one will probably stand out as your favorite to use and with practice you'll be feeling like a god when you can take down those big monsters.

That is retarded. If they would have done MHF1 and MHFU that would make sense. Be that as it may I am happy that potentially more people will get to play this game.

It's Capcom USA...I don't know what people expect from them other than screwing people over (especially PSP owners).

I mean, the head of it is the one that is the big pusher for DRM on PCs as well.
