Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

It doesn't hurt to get good with multiple weapons. Some monsters just aren't meant to be killed with certain weapons.

True. It seems he's still early in the game though and if he's spending time and resources swapping through three different types, I just figured getting up to speed with one weapon before moving onto the next would be more advantageous.

Moving onto rank five quests, I figure it'll be time soon where I need to branch out from my gunlance.

Seconding the request for crazygambit's spreadsheet. If you wanna test your program, can you try looking for an armor set that has Guard+ and RA+? Looking forward:D

Following the link in the op, i found only explanations on how to set things up through wireless. What's the alternative? USB? Any link?
Thanks.
There's a USB hub you can buy but I'm on my iPhone at the moment so I'll inform you later when I get home if no one else has at that point.

Hey, that MP thing through PS3, does it only work through wireless? ... i got a crummy wireless-less launch 20G. :'(

are you talking about wireless from your PS3 to your router? If thats the case, I believe that the whole setup REQUIRES a wired connection to work. It's confusing, but it's the only step they don't inform you about in the ad-hoc tutorials.

You should be able to run it while connected physically.

I meant from PS3 to PSP. My PS3 doesn't have wireless. Sorry for the confusion.

you are out of luck then.
ps3 needs a wireless connection to communicate with the psp
then uses the wired connection to the network.

HR3 with my self-named male character, specialist primarily in great sword. Been getting major mileage out of a mixed armor setup with poison negation and the Deadly Serpentblade iirc (720 attack with--rarely hitting--240 poison). While in the groove, went in and wiped out 7 Yian Garugas in a row for complete Garuga armor set plus the related sword gs and lance. First armor set I specifically aimed for in this first game of experimentation without faqs...which padded a lot of hours to my playtime.

Noting that female characters have unique look/sound/armor I started up a second game on the side. Much faster playthrough. And specializing in something I never used with my main, that being heavy bowgun. I dig it, though you must be good at timing reload and evasion or you'll get knocked around like a pinball.

Funny how experience means that first encounters with some of these once-troublesome (early) bosses becomes a lopsided fight now.

wow khezu is tough. It didnt damage me mugh but it seemed like I barely did damage to it. I have dual tomahawks and during the quest I used 10 large bombs 10 small bombs and still ran out of time chased him everywhere he went so he didnt really have time to heal and still didnt die.

yeah, khezu has a ton of health, i suggest using a stronger weapon with fire affinity rather than a fast one, since khezu himself is mighty slow.

Holy shit. You're eight hours in and at Nargacuga?

God...I suck.

I'm two missions away from finishing rank 4 and I'm over sixty hours.

You think YOU suck? I'm 5 hours in, and just finished all the one star quests for the chief. I am such a Monster Hunter Noob. :lol

Y'see, I was playing it wrong. I did the training first, but didn't realize about the chief. So, I went to the guild and paid for one star quests and was actually getting killed left and right. The Chiefs quests are a lot more gradual, so I'm doing better there.

It's starting to feel more like a portable game now. I can usually finish a quest in 15 to 20 min. I still say though....

A.) It need some kind of lock-on. Having to constantly tap "L" to get oriented is a pain. A lot of times I end up in an attack animation when the monster has dodged and is behind me.

B.) Online, online, online!! THIS is the biggest drawback from this game being huge in America. At least in Japan, most hardcore fans know three local people who have a PSP and MH.

Patience, good sir.

Don't worry about damage. Worry about surviving and nickle & dime him to death.

When he gets badly injured and starts to rage. He'll change himself up with electricity AND jump at you.

Almost always guaranteed to be a one shot kill if it hits you. Stay away from him when he rages.

Stay away when he charges himself up and wait for opportunities to run in and stab him.

i) After he leaps
ii) Immediately after he shoots electricity from his mouth. Come at him from the left or the right at a 45 degree angle and stab the hell out of his head.

I put that bitch on farm. I remember how scary he used to be...just patience and practice and then you'll laugh at their pale, wrinkled asses.

Trust me when I say you will get used to it. In this game as you progress, it actually would become fairly harmful to have a lock-on mechanism. Think about fighting two monsters at once, being able to control the camera is a lifesaver.

I agree, luckily my friends got me into this game so I already knew two people who played. Then we got my room mate into it as well. Many nights lost until 4 am ravaging monster tails :lol

There are many great tutorial videos on youtube for this stuff. It honestly doesn't hurt to watch an experienced hunter for some tips. There are also some weakness charts you may be interested in. Some parts of a monster's body have incredible damage reduction so if you keep striking on Khezu's body but ignore his head, you will have a tough time hurting him enough.

A real life-saver against raging Khezu is not to be intimidated and to remember that you can dive forward and clear under his super electrified jump as soon as it launches. Saved my bacon from an iffy heavy bowgun reload more than once.

Over 400 hours on Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, and now 100 more on Freedom Unite.

This is more of a timesink than World of Warcraft, haha.

Damn it I am hooked again :( After about a 100 hours of MHF2, it became a bit to frustrating for me (red kezu and time limit isn't a very good compination, why is there even a timelimit??) Haven't startet with the HR quest yet, afraid the PSP won't survie it... But beat Tigrex on my second atemt, but my arsenal is much better now, so don't know how big of a feat it is. Game of the generation (behind Rock Band) for me.

Heya everyone. GAFnoob here to let everyone know I'll be hosting late night ad-hoc party rooms for MHnubs and those with low HR.

If you see a d0c room dont hestitate to stop by and say wassup!

EDIT: oh yea PSN ID is d0c_zaius too:D

Evenin gaf...finally decided to give my first MH game a shot, and I must say.... I think the game is frakking awesome, but being a complete MH newb is definitely a tad daunting. Especially since I don't have anybody to play with. But if anyone else is new or wants to show a newbie the ropes online, feel free and let me know. I really really am liking this game and hope to meet up with some peeps here. And if anyone has any friendly starter tips it would be much appreciated. :D

gunner is pretty awesome o: went through giodrome with only 8 Flame S bullets.

btw is there any way to trade higher rank crafting materials with people or is it just R3 and below?

Anything with Rarity 5 and above cannot be traded unfortunately.

damn it. oh well I'm enjoying gunner so I wont mind doing some quests over(hopefully congalala is easier with a gunner)

killed khezu last night but he had already killed me twice so when the god damn mammoth charged me it was game over :(

and I'm sure everyone knows but for other MH noobs like myself if you crouch while you gather/carve you save a few fractions of a second since the character wont have to go through the full animation.

It's good that you're learning these things at such an early time. I didn't figure that out until 100 hours into the game lol.

Also, help your teammates by kicking them (when possible) after using an item once it has taken effect. For instance, when your teammate takes a potion kick him as soon as you see the green aura and he's about to do the muscle man pose.

For those who don't wanna use the 'claw' just get used to making your character face the direction you want the camera to face and tapping the L button.

Can anyone tell me who to unlock HR6 teostra? Purple cleared HR 4 and red cleared HR5 I'm not sure what mission I'm missing but Ive killed every monster hunter but Ash Lao-Shan Lung. This shit is driving me insane.

Ahh shit didn't mean to quote myself meant to edit.

yama tsukami is cheesy and boring.
cheesy because of instant kill
boring because he doesn't do much aside from being weary of that

Noob question....
Is there any difference between Unite and Freedom 2? i mean i have both sealed waiting to be played.... is there anything worth in playing both of them?

MHFU is Freedom 2 with new monsters/weapons/maps. So its much better.

I'm thinking about getting this game... looks pretty fun. Will I be overwhelmed if I've never played a Monster Hunter game? Those reviews from the OP are scaring me

Unite is Freedom 2 with new quests, faster loading times, and a great many other conveniences that you probably wouldn't be able to appreciate much if you didn't play MHF2, but you should just stick to Unite anyway if only for the expedited loading. MHF2's loading is HORRIBLE.

it's a game that needs dedication and time, but it's really rewarding, even at the beginning when you're a newbie in the hunting scene.

it's a bit slow in the first hours, but once it gets going it really takes off. i was put off the first time i played, wanted to sell it and never get back, but i gave it a go recently and was hooked. (i'm talking about MHF2G, almost the same as MHFU).

Did a load this weekend, got to HR4, did Lao Shan Lung and Shen Gaoren by turning them away not killing them. Completed my Rathalos Soul armour just need the get the Garuga Mask for HG Earplugs.

They now have a cat that helps you in single player quests, and with ad-hoc party you can play coop over the internet via PS3. This makes the game much easier if you can't find an ad-hoc coop group locally. Otherwise the game might make you cry. Do the Iron Katana tree to start with. Longsword weapons have a good tradeoff of power, speed, and evade combo attacks -- making them a great all round malee weapon tree. I must have a dozen longswords by now, but I still use the 4 main elemental ones often. I'm just Hunter Rank 2! The main thing about the game is learning the attack and prowling patterns of major monsters to hunt them better -- oddly enough sort of like real hunting. Also make a gathering armor set to make tons of cash ( z ) easy. :)
