Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

Just downloaded the demo. Never played a MH game before, but I have to admit, I'm put off big time by the camera control. My god, what an abomination in an otherwise very cool game.

And am I reading this right: I need to have my PS3 on to create a party over PSN?

I must be missing something here.

The camera isn't bad, you just have to get used to controlling it yourself. Give it some more time.

The bow is just so wierd, there are monsters it owns outright, I beat the Tigrex, Gravios, and Diablos multiple times this weekend looking for carves with my new bow character without getting hit once or using 1 to 2 health items, honestly.

There are monsters that are just tough like the crabs both Shogun and Daimyo but beatable if you run around like a fool.

There are also monsters where the bow just sucks against or I have to adjust my playstyle, I literally cannot beat Kushala Daora with a bow...any tips :lol

You can use the trick to press X to roll, and while rolling adjust the camera. Or just use "the claw" :lol

Anyway, the thing for online play is lame I know. But the game was not made with online play, just ad-oc play (does any psp game have online play? i dont think so...), and the PS3 app to let you play online is a plus.

I guess all weapons have his nemesis monsters. Some are incredibly easy with a type o weapon, but others are really hard (ie: plesioth).

For kushala, mmm, bring power and poison coat, and attack him with power coat when it doesnt have the aura activated. When it activates the aura, attack him with poison on the head, wings or tail, because the wind will make your arrows to rebound to you.

Also dont attack him using the different charged levels while he is on the air, because the attacks can be unpredictable. Just wait till it charges at you, dodge and fire a charged shot.

Yeah, I was hoping I was missing something obvious. Two terrible design decisions right there IMO.

Frankly, I don't want to have anything at all to do with the camera in an action title other than minor adjustments if needed.

Still, I'll play it a bit more but nothing drives me away from a game faster than control issues.

EDIT: I watched a review of the game and they made it sound like the later quests were designed around playing with multiple people in a party. Can I SP through the entire game?

The chances of playing this locally with another player are zero.

Oh, so I'm now at the 4* Elder quests. About to tackle dual-monster quests for the first time. Any general tips for this? Right now it seems like a pretty daunting task.

Yes you can solo all the quests... but first do all elder quests, then nekoth quests, at last move to Guild Hall. Guild Hall is were you play with other people, so monster have more HP.

You can do some Guild quests at the beginning but when you reach Tigrex there is pretty much very hard, so play on elder quests to build up good weapons, and armor and then move to guild hall again.

Its not that hard. Just stick with one, and then go for the other, at this time, is pretty rare they go to the same area. If this happens, then just wait untill they split.

Finishing up the last series of cat quests, got my narga LS, and killed silver rath a few times without using one mega potion. really wish these quests were G rank though.

Made every piece of los S armor minus the legs (a second ruby needed :\)

Started on the los soul S also. Should probably hit up the GH some, since I'm still hr 2.

One thing, for example, I have a weapon with 1000 raw damage, and a thunder weapon with 800 raw and 500 thunder dmg.

If I use the thunder weapon against a monster with thunder weakness, does I do 800+500 dmg to him? so the thunder one is better than the raw one?

It isnt that exact, I don't think. It also depends on where you hit the monster, and how weak to the element the monster is. Most of the time, if you have an element that high, I think its better to use the element though.

Or just save up and get a PS3 and nobody has to die!

Havent played MH since I was last online with you guys. One of those games that I always invest a weight of time in to start with then not come back by which time the next iteration is out and I repeat the cycle :/

Money is tight, and I like to keep my priorities in check. I might be able to get my father to part with his ps3, but he actually uses the blu-ray player. what a waste of a ps3 :\

K, J-2 sounds good. Let's do the Rathalos and Rathian quests first since they are the easiest. after that whatever everyone thinks they wanna tackle.

how hard is the yama for when we get to it? should I study up beforehand?

Whats a good starting armor for a LS user, I'm using the butterfly one for evade+1, I'm on Tigrex urgent quest.

garuga armor is pretty good, good armor and good skills for sword user.

But when you can do a better armor with higher defense, do it, because its the most important thing about an armor.

Okay, I'm not really sure what the hell just happened...I was fighting the 3* GH Daimyo Hermitaur. 20 minutes into the fight, and he's almost dead. He runs off to another area. As soon as I get into the area, I see my Felyne jump up and smack him. AND HE DIES.

I SPEND 20 MINUTES HACKING AWAY AT HIM AND MY FELYNE KILLS HIM WITH THE EQUIVALENT OF A POKE TO THE HEAD? WHAT?! :lol

Mine actually delivered the final blow to village Akantor once. Also, he chopped the tail off a Rathalos. He's badass.

Oh yeah! Just spent some time taking out the 3* GH Congalala and Blangonga. Finally, after 50 hours, I'm HR2! :D

Also, this game has totally validated my PSP purchase. I'm glad I didn't give up on it the three other times I tried and failed to get into it. :D I mean hell, just tonight I've taken out two Blangongas, two Velocidromes, a Daimyo Hermitaur, and a Congalala.

Capgod indeed.

Oh they never learn, they charge right by me and then wave their tails around begging me to shoot it :lol

:lol

Reminds me of when the monsters will sit there and look around or throw a tantrum or something. Its the perfect opportunity to get some hits in. My friends and I usually say something like "Oh that F*** is strutting his/her stuff again, KICK HIS A$$"! Strutting their stuff.. :lol :lol
