Question to those who play with the Go.

Are the claw controls possible?

I don't see how...

Wait what? Can you play your PSP using a DS3 controller? If something happens to my psp, I will probably buy a Go! but paying again for a downloadable version of MH is, well... not fair :S

I'm willing to do it as I love it that much. I'm just gonna sell my hard copy off to Amazon

Sometimes I really hate the drop rates of some stuff...

The last couple of days I was farming Nargacuga to get ONE Narga Brain Stem, to make the helmet of nargacuga S armor. I killed the thing like 20-25 times, and didnt get one. But the 26th time the thing give me 2 Brain Stems :lol.

Time to get some Lunastra Spikes to make a +2 evade and evade distance up armor.

evade +2 and evade distance combined fundamentally changes the fighting, it's awesome. You can basic roll with weapon through tons more attacks than you could before if you have your timing down to a science.

I like that combo because it makes the fighting in monster hunter feel a lot like parrying in SF: third strike, you really have to manage fractions of seconds and be able to come out unharmed.

ESP is also a good combo skill, it takes away bouncing off an enemy completely, so you retain complete control over your character without getting stuck in a bounceback animation, and trampled on as a result.

Tell me about it. I've been farming Rathalos with my GF for Heavenly Scales off and on for a month, probably like 30 fights, and I get none and she's gotten like 6. Same with Basarios Wings, Khezu Special Cuts. Jeez, last time we fought Khezu she got 4 Special Cuts in one quest. LOL, I'm so unlucky, but good for her. XD

The Narga X set is what made dual crabs and Rathalos/Rathian in the arena possible for me. Evade Distance, Evade +1, and ESP I think. It makes things so much easier with the longer roll distance and longer immunity time. Singly these guys are easy, but together it gets annoying...

Hmm, the girl I am seeing has a PSP I wonder if she would be into monster hunter... I have a sealed copy of unite too. Hmmmmm I should let her try the game out and see if she likes it :D

Yeah, I already have a +2 Armor (butterfly/orbituary S set) but I will change the helmet and gauntlets to nargacuga's and gemming it with +4 evade dist up decoration to get the desire effect :) Only 1 lunastra spike left to get the last decoration :D .

Also I read about ESP skill, but I dont know if there is an armor where I can get evade +2, evade dist up and esp with 1 set.

Off topic: awesome art you find :P

I mentioned that in my edit above but I believe you can manage it with the Narga X set. Except you can only get evade +1 with evade distance and ESP.

Edit: The armor set has 2, 3 slot pieces so it might be possible with high end gems but I have not looked into it yet.

Yeah didnt see that post until I posted mine :lol but Im too far from getting Narga X.

Currently doing lasts nekoth quests but I cant kill silver rathalos / gold rathian. On the guild hall,l Im at hr6. Im ranking up with a friend but we haven't played for 1 week, so Im stuck there :lol .

EDIT: if you have slots left then I think it can be gemmed with evade gems. there are +1 and +3 but I think +3 need 2 slots. Maybe using a weapon with 2-3 slots helps a lot for that matter

I got Brain stem on my first try... go figures.

Also why haven't those dumbasses at SCEA release US Ad hoc party software?

Well its something to look forward to at the very least.

As a side note, have any of you seen Monster Hunter as an on and off thing? My friends and i go through phases where we will play non stop for a month or two, then quit for a couple months. Then it repeats. Can't explain why but it happens.

Ditto, excepts its a weekly thing for I. Most of the time is hitting the WALL! then I stop playing for a week or so and comeback!

Yes, I remember when we were starting out and first fought Plesioth. I dont think I've seen so much nerd rage in one room before in my life.

With me it was the Khezu. I was so pissed off at that fucker. And then I beat him with 17 seconds remaining. I was ecstatic.

Now that fucker is easy to beat, lol.

Very tempted to grab this for my PSPgo since I've never played MH but have been fascinated by the idea and success. I wonder if I should go with it or wait for the Wii Tri... kinda scared of the claw.

oracrest said:

Yeah, I can relate to that :lol

I HATE the retard rush. It's super sudden and with no clue whatsoever, making it nearly impossible to dodge (if you're close the monster) and it usually damages you more than it should (it certainly doesn't look very dangerous). I mean, come on!

If you see some post above you, you will see that "the claw" is not possible (or at least harder) with the PSPgo.

I moved up to HR9 last night with a friend of mine. Yama Tsukami is tough at first until you figure out how to keep away from that wind tunnel crap.

Next stop: Rajang X Armor.

Yes easy and satisfying.

Its fun when you bring 4 people with paralyze weapons and shock traps then literally gang bang Dual Green Plesioth G rank. I would say that was honestly the most satisfying moment playing this game. Once the first trap is set its all over....

Monster Hunter Tri is unique enough that Unite remains it's own game to a big degree. I will probably still be playing Unite when Tri comes out.

Evade +2 and ESP is the combo you want. evade distance is good, but with evade +2, you don't really have to get out of the way of attacks because your invulnerability time is good enough to just roll through them.

It's particularly fun to roll INTO a charging Tigrex, or into a tail whip, and come up swinging and untouched. Evade +2 works good for rolling away from the Khezu shock too.

I havent tested the evade distance up skill, so if anyone can clear it for me...

If the normal roll is 100% distance... How long is the roll using the evade dist up skill? 150%? 200%?

What exactly is the word on the next PSP Monster Hunter. I have only heard the confirmation that it will be made...in the future.

In the U.S. we just got Unite so I am satisfied with the added quests. The issue is, I have a group of friends locally that play and they don't all have the Wii (I do.) Just curious any guess late '10 or are we talking '12? :D

They havent said a word about it... Im too addicted to MH on the PSP, so probably when the tri comes out on the US I will probably buy a Wii just for that... but only if there is no month fees :S

at ^^^

I guess it does make perfect sense for them to not give any concrete details until MH Tri is released worldwide and sales are in full swing/slowing.

Edit : I am upset they dropped so many weapon types in TRI how do you get rid of the Bow?!, Gunlance?!, Dual Swords?! and the Hunting Horn. The Gunlance and Hunting Horn added interesting depth to the game.

Are there any beginner guides out there? I did some training for the first release and got bored and confused. I skipped to the first mission in this one and while I managed to find it (some blue velociraptor) the thing tears me to pieces. I've tried like 6 times now and no luck.

I guess you are talking about the Giadrome? The catch to the game is this really, if you are rushing it trying to bash it's head in, you will die...alot.

The game is about manuevering and patiently waiting for openings i.e. (after it finshes a leap or launches a snowball at you) when it misses move in and hit it at it's sides. Just remember you must stick and move away, then patiently manuever until the next opening and strike again and move away.

Almost never stand infront and head on with any monster unless it is extremly vulnerable from a flash bomb or shock trap. :D

Which is the best weapon to face elder dragons and Kirin the first time, just beat Tigrex urgent quest and I'm having trouble whit elder's using LS, most of my attacks bounce and only on the face/tail they land.
I did better whit a bow, but forgot to bring extra supply's and died.

Believe me, compared to Monster Hunter 1 this game is fucking Santa Claus.
I've played that for 900+ hours and I believe I only ever got 1 (one) Rathalos plate.
In MHFU, I eat my dinner off them.
In one G rank Azure/Pink I got 2 Rathalos rubies, 2 Rathian rubies and a Heavenly Rathian scale. Of course, when I'm actually LOOKING for an item it's a whole different story.

If your LS bounce, try to update your current sword, or buy a new one with better sharpness. If you already killed tigrex, then the next LS you should see with blue sharpness is Tigrex Tooth. Buy that and the attacks wont bounce (Except for Kirin, you can only attack him in the face, if you land an attack on body, tail or any other place it will bounce.)

Does anyone know of a good place where I can check if new DLC is released (for Europe)?

I don't have wi-fi at home so I have to go out to get it. Isn't there any way to make my PS3 act as a hotspot for that? (not talking about ad hoc party).

You have to download the quests from the game option, and no, you cant use the PS3 as a hotspot, you have to use a wifi connection.

What's the best weapon to start out with? I've done the first quest(Giadrome) with the hammer and longsword and been owned both times. Wow, this game is hard.

Do the Training Hall missions to see which weapon suits you best.

If you're having problems with a certain monster, it's useful to check its strengths and weaknesses. For the Giadrome, this is a good page: http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Giadrome

You can then create some armour which is resistant to ice and a weapon which deals fire damage (in this case), or use some accessories which deal the required type of damage. This will make the fight easier, but you may need to farm some items to manufacture a certain type of weapon.

In Monster Hunter most monsters can be killed with any weapon, it's all down to your personal preference. However, in reality, it is far easier to kill certain monsters with the appropriate weapon. e.g. if a monster deals close range poison or lightning damage then a ranged weapon is useful.

As others said, use the training room to practice and choose a weapon.

Ok, how do I farm materials without taking a quest? Is there a way to just, I don't know, free hunt?

I'm using whatever equipment they gave me in the starting box, and I can't handle the monsters in the very easiest quest it's possible to take.

Tobor said:
I did, and I liked the hammer and longsword. :lol Then I got destroyed by the first quest.
Ah, I see. For longsword you should try to roll away from attacks and try to attack at the sides. Save your spirit attack for when you have a chance. Bring a shock trap if u can to give you time to attack it
alot.

Gathering quests are pretty much free hunts. You can do them from the elder or guild hall. Make sure you are doing the elder quest too. Since guild hall stuff
is for party or seasoned hunters.

Ok, I read the manual. :lol

I can fish and mine for materials right now, it looks like, and I need to figure out how to hire the kittys to fight with me, and then that lizard is toast.

Yeah, this was my mistake, I went to the guild hall instead of the elder. I'll keep plugging away at it.

I'm not locked into a weapon type at any point, right? I can switch at any time?

So pro's I need some help. I've beaten all the original MHF2 single player quests, I'm HR 8 and I'm attempting to do single player quests for Nekhot but wtf is with these quests? A green congala hits me twice and I'm fucking dead. I'm using upgraded azure rathalos armor so the armor does need upgrading...what should i get? BTW, I'm a LS user.

No, yu are not locked, you can (and for harders trainings, you have to) switch to any type of weapon, but keep in mind that you will need to expend more money to get decent weapons, and armor for that weapon.

On sharp weapons like sword you can use several armors and it will be fine, but for ranged you have to build a new armor and maybe with deferent skills, and the higher defense it gets the better, because ranged armors have low defense that some high rank monsters can 1hit kill you.

Im no pro, but Im currently with nekoth's 9star urgent quest (akantor or something like that :lol )

Im a LS user too, but hadnt any problem with congalala in nekoths missions. My armor was butterfly S (or orbituary if you hunter is male) when i fought congalala in those quests, updated to Lvl 9.

Right now I have Narga's helmet S and vambraces S, and Butterfly S's plate, belt and shoes gemmed with 4, +1 Evade Dist Up gems and 2, +3 dodge to get evade +2 and evade distance up.

Also I always get the cats to make me a +40 health and high defense boost meal (grain and fish) and always bring an armorskin or mega armorkin if the monster hits hard (like rajang, silver rathalos, etc). They dont do that much damage anymore, but you always need to be careful :lol

So, did you already have a PSP go? how is the controlls for MH? Does it feel comfortable?

No idea if anyone has an answer for this, but thought I'd ask:

Have my twice-transferred MHF character and all of his junk and such. If I were to perhaps get a PSP Go! further down the line, would my UMD-game save work with the DD game or would I have to start all over?

And if anyone cares, still can't beat that urgent quest with a Tigrex from the elder. Can not beat him! Tried bowing (lolz), hammer, LS...

For my first time I used a long sword (Devil slicer or one with thunder attribute is best) and took some flash bombs and the stuff to make more, traps and barrel bombs. I set the traps and put the barrel bombs next to his head and set them off, then I would flash bomb him, get near and wait to see what move he does (either spin, bites or throws rocks) then hit him in his head. Make sure you keep near to him, he's a pain if he gets space to run at you.

Hope that helps, it worked for me first time, now he's a lot easier.

As for the save question, yea the umd save will work, I had it on UMD and used the same save when I got the DD version.
