Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

Well I picked up MHFU as my only game for my new PSP-3000. I am so noob, and lost and don't know what I'm doing. I finally beat my first Urgent! mission (a Giodrome) fainting once and having to use a handful of my own supply of health potions.

God I feel like I did when I first started Demon's Souls...

As for the boobs above, I like!

Keep at it and your skills will improve dramatically. BTW, what weapon are you using? Many of the weapons have quite large learning curves to them so it's a good idea to stick to one of the easier weapon classes like swords and shields or long swords at first (I learnt this the hard way myself).

Also remember to plan ahead when it comes to upgrading your weapon. There are many weapon tree maps on the internet that you can use. It's no good getting stuck because you choose a weapon path that doesn't perform until you attain materials only available after the part you're currently stuck at. It's a good idea try and get a weapon with green sharpness as soon as possible (it'll save you a world of trouble when it comes to Wyverns). Going straight down the "iron" path should do the trick.

Hammers. Get to know them and love them.

Yeah, Demon's Souls felt like Monster Hunter in a lot of ways (invincible roll dodge!).

This is the game that keeps giving!

Thanks all for the tips! I've started with the noob Sword and Shield, and I'm starting to get better with them. I've beaten the first Urgent! mission w/ the Giadrome. I tend to die at least once per mission to stupid mistakes still at this point. I made myself a Snake's Bite for my sword, and so far it's pretty nice. I don't have materials to take it any further at the moment.

I can see how this game is so addicting...I was up far too late last night.

Awww man MH thread. I put literally hundreds of hours into MHF2 and Unite. The only issue I have is I am not a complete MH player because I hate when the games start getting "extreme" on you like timed dual G monsters hunts and stuff. I tend to like the beginning of the game and the middle more than the end :D

same for me. i kinda enjoy the lower impact play of using g-rank gear on high rank hunts. i like that it takes less time and don't have to concentrate so much. perhaps i just need to get better, since there are crazy folk out there that beat g-rank quests in under 15 minutes 'n' such.

spent the last while preparing for and beating the 3 high rank fatalii, that i never got around to from f2, and also g-rank black fatty. not particularly looking forward to fighting g-rank crimson fatty.

@Giolon

besides planning for weapon upgrades, pay attention to armor and armor skills too. the best armor isn't necessarily the pieces that gives the highest defense, but the ones that gives you extra skills to help you out on a hunt. it's best if you read an faq on it, as it's fairly in depth. the gist is that there are skills that are enabled by meeting the skill point requirement. some are offensive, some defensive, and other miscellaneous supporting skills. armor pieces from 1 set will have enough for a couple skills. (but to complete the set, means to farm for the materials needed to craft it... aka fighting the same monster several times.)

later in the game, you can play around with mixing and matching but at low rank, there isn't too much flexibility. there's a sorta meta-game around the armor system and it's really interesting to play around with. i overlooked it until someone explained it to me. otherwise i'd be wearing giaprey this mixed with conga that... and... just be all rubbish, skills (and looks)-wise.

Okay so I know everyone has moved on to the MH3 thread but I have a question I'd like to ask anyone still watching this thread. I have both Deep Darkhammer and Magnitude. I also have the Rath Soul Z gemmed for RA+3. Is it even worth using Magnitude anymore or just go with DDH since it has 80% affinity with RA+3? I am not up on the calculations of weapon damage so I don't know if the much higher raw of magnitude is better or if the lower raw but ungodly high affinity of DDH is the best.

I think DDH (That's the Naruga hammer right?) just edges out on Magnitude, with or without the RA+3.

If you have Sharpness+1 skill however, opt for Magnitude.

G-rank Rajang made me forget about this game.... :(
It wasn't bad actually in a group. We did the dual Rajang and finished it in about 15 minutes. I really don't think I would want to solo that though. At least I got the mats for the hammer.

I am working on my Sharpness set right now. I guess I should be happy I have both hammers so I can play around with them.

The dual Rajang, I can do solo but the permanent SSJ2 Rajang is really hard for me.

Wait, what now? 80 hours :S? That's not something you should be gloating (I defeated my first Tigrex about 30 hours in and got my full Tigrex set by about 40 hours in).

Actually I did him in the Guild hall first with fellow hunters.

Khezu Shock sword to the head

Reason my time is inflated is I go back and forth quite a bit between between Hall/Elder playing with friends and whatnot. Farming some stuff too...

Not gloating man. Just finally got around to it is all.
Shit's not a race and I play pretty casually ...like 30 minutes a day on average

Yay! Finally beat "The Final Invitation" (dual Elder Rajang) and with that I'm done with all the Elder Quests (And only 75 hours in too, take that AgentOtaku). Now to start saving up for my True Devil Slicer* and then take on the Dual Monoblos 8 star urgent :D.

*Actually, I was really Lucky and managed to get all 4 Thunder Sacs and the Pale Khezu Steak I needed from my first (and so far only) high rank Khezu :D.

Fair enough, just messing with you :P.

You must have a nice feeling after beating Tigrex, I know I did. I used all my the possible traps I can make to beat it. :D

Bowgun either rajang or Monoblos makes a easy ass quest.

Man, I'm really tempted to go back to this now.

Yeah, shit was tense

- 3 shock traps
- 5 flash bombs (for rage fits)
- but only like 5 or so Mega Potions

Just hate his priority/area of effect

1 shock Trap
0 flash bombs
about the same mega potions (5 or more)
plus hot drinks

and yes his speed and priority is pretty messed up, consisting of me going in for 1 or 2 hits and then getting the fuck out.

Once hes in rage i run around like a little girl :lol unless when he does his taunt then i get in some free hits (this has a specific behavior to exploit).

He is also one of the monsters that thought me how to use the camera well enough or die trying. Interestingly i have never killed him outright so far (traps FTW) since his constant raging is horseshit.

Yeah, hence the flashbombs to draw out/waste his rage fits. Usually two back to back will do it.

Used the Blangonga set, so didn't need hot drinks

Ok, im a dual sword user, and i have a major problem with the khezu. I can avoid his attacks ok, but i cant seem to do any damage to him. Am i required to use a heavy weapon to take him, or is there a weak point that im unaware of?

after all this time, i still don't like tigrex and to a lesser extent, naruga. tigrex is too fast for me to do anything while it's in rage, so i just spend that time running around. landing shots on his head is also incredibly dangerous. to beat him cleanly, i gotta use gs + art of unsheathe, try to land a charge shot on his head as he turns to face me then bail away.

attack his leg. make him fall over. then run up to his head/neck and wail away. beware of his blue electricity and gtfo before he does it though. can't get too greedy....

Tigrex = the most difficult hunt I've encountered thus far. Fellow player that is about 150+ hours ahead of me and has seen much more than I have, actually agrees.

Just his moveset and priority.

Plus when in rage mode I think he just looks scary as fuck!

My gosh that picture is awesome!

What always gets me is his actual jump back > roar rage mode animation. The way his wings all flare out... he just looks So Fucking Pissed.

EDIT: Swipe!

i never had much problem avoiding him, but attacking his legs really seemed to help. finally took his ass down and unlocked him in training. thanks for the help

now i have another question. how do you manufacture your own weapons? ive just been buying them in the shop, but they arent really holding up well for me.

As said before, just attack his legs until he falls over then attack his head. Personally I find this tactic easiest to pull off with a hammer. Just use charge attacks on his legs (mainly super pounds) to get him to fall over and triple pound when he's down or get a particularly large window. Just make sure your weapon has green sharpness, it'll make your life much easier.

Anyway, what's all this talk of Tiggy being hard? The first Tiggy is a bit of a challenge but after you've defeated him once, he becomes fairly easy (particularly when you fight him in the desert).

Wow, seriously? No wonder you were having trouble with Khezu. Anyway, Talk to the man (as opposed to the cat) in the same stall you buy you're weapons from. He'll let you forge weapons from scratch but more importantly will let you upgrade your current weapons.

Weapon trees. know it, follow it. save yourself resources and heartache. unless you don't mind.
you gotta talk to the man and have the materials. and money. you can only buy/create a few from scratch, most are obtained via improvements.
the stats to pay attention to in weapon improvements are sharpness, attack and affinity. sharpness is important, because as i'm sure you've found out, bouncing is really really really annoying.
