Monster Hunter Wilds basic mechanic overview trailer

Visible damage after every strike is a very welcome addition!
Edit: upon closer inspection, looks like it's not exactly after every strike, I'll need to understand better what are the criteria for damage to be visible.

I really like the focus mode. That’s going to be a lot of fun hitting weak spots. Also like how you can gather items from afar. It’s looking excellent. This is looking good. I really enjoyed Rise, so this is great. I just hope there’s lots of different environments to explore.
One thing that gets me is that they’ve got this game that’s going to surely be huge, everyone is waiting for it, and the biome they choose to start everything off with and focus on is a fucking bland ass desert. Like… why? What a terrible starting area.
In comparison the Ancient Forest in MHWorld might as well have been heaven.

In most recent MH games when you attack places that not weak point you just white damage numbers but when you hit the weak point you see orange damage numbers.

Because both in Monster Hunter World and Rise the starting area is jungle or forest so this time we start with desert, personally I don’t see anything wrong with that.

Probably just mixing it up? Almost every game starting area is some kind of forest. It seems that they'll add some kind of weather effect in each region. IIRC you can see sandstorms in the trailers.

Probably also just holding their cards until they put out a "the world of MH Wilds" featurette, showing all of the biomes and landscapes. It seems like a good marketing move if you keep all the background locals kinda muted in the early trailers, then hit everyone with an "oooooo aahhhhh" type trailer closer to launch.

Sadly they already confirmed swimming/underwater combat isn't back, but that would have made for one of those "ooooo ahhhhh" moments, I think.

Yup. I think all the previous games are like this too. If you already follow the series, you know how they promote this game.

Yeah, swimming was almost hated universally. I just want my boy to be back

He even ranked third in the monster ranking!

Ya for sure, I’ve just never been a big fan of desert areas in games. I will of course be getting the game day 1 lol, I’ve been playing the series since Tri on the Wii. I literally love MH, my file in world is just over 3000 hours.

All that said, I still think desert areas are the worst possible place any game can show first.
Even if they didn’t choose a jungle or something very green, pretty much anything would beat a Desert lol.

I’m sure I’ll make my peace with it over time. But for now it’s the only thing I can really criticize. The game as a whole is looking like it’s going to be amazing. I plan to take an entire week off work for the launch 😅

Edit.
Maybe it’s because I started with Tri but I liked underwater, it’s mixed things up and made the game feel way bigger.

MH4 reveal was also kinda in a desert area lol

My only wish for Wilds is the weapon design not sucked like World. I'm really worried about that since it's the world team that is working the game.

I'm still surprised Lagiacrus didn't show up in Rise/Sunbreak since we had bunch of leviathans class monsters in that game.

I loved the idea and concept of underwater combat, I just think they weren't ready to deliver on the gameplay part of it in that gen. Keep in mind Tri was developed first for the Wii, so there weren't dual analogs and the gyro stuff was sketchy at best. I think combining those two facets in a modern game would allow some underwater combat improvements that could make it fun, but now they're gunshy to even try due to the poor feedback from Tri.

Dog piling on this point.

There are a lot of hints right now that Wilds could be some sort of sequel to 4. Lots of suspiciously familiar characters, familiar desert landscape.. Where there's smoke, ya know? What I'm getting at is -- I think that showcasing the desert is a very deliberate move.

I don't believe that with the mountain of criticism the team received for the weapon designs in World, they will repeat that mistake. They demonstrated that they learned their lesson as early as Iceborne, by embellishing weapons more and allowing you to fully transmog them.

Not to keep going on the hate parade but
How the fuck do these channels pull 6 mins of content from 50 secs of footage.

Arreks isn’t the only channel to do this, just the one I’m using an as example. Especially egregious because the Insect Glaive video was a big nothing burger to begin with.
Ugh, I’m just going to have to start ignoring a lot of these “content farm” channels.

Edit.

If the desert in Wilds had even 1/3 of that color it’d be a different story lol
