Monster Hunter Wilds Free Update: "Our Commitment to Improving Stability and Performance"

I think I'll let them work on it and update it for at quite a while longer before I dip my toes.

Meanwhile I've got MH4U lined up on my DS device. Heard it's quite beloved.

High end pc gang. I can confirm they fixed the texture streaming for the high texture pack. I no longer get horrible texture pop in using the highest texture setting.

Also they fixed the boot time for the game. It no longer sits for a minute doing nothing but a black screen for over a minute.

Yes, especially in CPU bound scenarios.
Quite impressive the level of incompetence at Capcom...

There are comments that maybe not deleting shader cache caused this.

But Capcom is so incompetent with this game (and DD2) that everything is possible.

checked it out on base PS5 and holy hell did they do a face lift here. The 60fps mode no longer looks like blurry ass. It actually looks quite good now. Maybe they updated to a higher FSR version? Using FSR1 in 2025 was a choice...

Could be, but that is something that should be programmed by Capcom.
No one can expect that normal users know when and how to do that.

Rise at base had a canteen and a Hunter's Hub. Monsters also weren't a cakewalk. Even a Low Rank Arzuros can wreck your face if you did stupid things.
Nah rise was stupidly easy, let's be real.

The silk super moves make the game an absolute cakewalk.

5% more performance in best case or just worse. And that after a year.

Season 8 Wow GIF by The Office

What an absolute shit show. Capcom can't be serious with this crap.

This 100% explains why I was getting a rock solid 4k 60 max settings with DLSS and frame gen in the hub and the moment I loaded into a new area my performance tanked to sub 30fps. This NEVER happened with older patches.

Shifting the shader compilation to happen mid game when it never was before is just insane.

At this point I'm just gonna play on base ps5 because Capcom keeps fucking up the pc version left and right.

Got to try out the new patch today, and for my hardware (intel 13700k, rtx 4080, plenty of ram), I can get great consistent performance at 4k between high 60fps-low 80fps range.

The two caveats that got me that though:
  1. While the high-resolution texture pack pop-in has been fixed, I found that it still causes more hitching and weaker frame-times. Turning it off gave me noticeably smooth consistent FPS throughout, even in the worst conditions (open areas with monster effects). I can see the January patch fixing this though, given it specifically mentions improving streaming speeds for it.
  2. Deleting old shader cache netted me a straight up 10-15fps boost.
Still bullshit they released it in the state they did, including the console versions. It and Dragon's Dogma 2 show me they struggle with asset streaming in big areas.
