Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test 2 Announcement | PS5, XBS and PC | Feb 6 - 9 & Feb 13 - 16

Thick Thighs Save Lives

NeoGAF's Physical Games Advocate Extraordinaire

Happy New Year, hunters! Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto is here to welcome you into the year of Monster Hunter Wilds, and to share news of the second Open Beta Test planned for February! The future is looking bright...

Open Beta Test 2 is your second chance to try out the evolved hunting experience in Monster Hunter Wilds, this time featuring an additional monster! Following the first Open Beta Test, the development team have been reading all of the feedback and requests we've recieved, and are working hard to improve the quality of the game for launch.

Please note that adjustments including performance, weapon changes, Hitstop, quality of life improvements and more will not be present or reflected in the second Open Beta Test build.

Excuse Me What GIF by CBS

So they are basically reusing the last beta (ballpark at least) with all the massive technical issues it had.....
Now that makes a great impression mere weeks before release.....

Thats lame, not interested then. Waiting for full release
He even told and say that back in month or two ago, that if they did another open beta. It wouldn’t have all the other stuff. Which I don’t blame them. Don’t need them to waste time to make another version with all the cut content. Need these last few months to improve the mine game

Sounds like more of a network load/matchmaking test than an actual beta, considering they didn't make any of the popular requested changes. Whatever, I didn't get to try Hunting Horn or Longsword like I wanted to last time, I'll give it a download again.

Hell yea, great news! I only played a bit of the first beta and can't wait to try it again!

And I love that they make the character creator available before launch again (like they did with DD2), so I won't be wasting an hour or so on making a character on release day.

Evolved1

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
I don’t know if it’s really a mistake for the game to have this, given the potential downside, but personally I’m quite happy about it.

Yup, not even going to bother with this second beta.

I will dl it just to see if performance on ps5pro is better than on the base one.
I know it wont have any optimizations for the pro, but still interesting to see if quality mode would have better performance.

Yep, absolutely retarded move, i'm not even gonna bother downloading it.
It's not though. They were asked in an interview back then about the possibility of a second beta and they said they're thinking about it, but if they did they clarified it would be the same code for the people that missed it as they'd rather not waste time on a one time thing but focus on releasing the actual game, which makes perfect sense. I'd also rather they focused all their efforts for launch instead of taking away resources for something that is ultimately useless. They've already said they're addressing people's main issues like performance, weapon balance etc.

No interest in this if it's not going to include any actual technical upgrades.
I'll just have to assume the final release will also look and run like shit on Ps5, which makes it an easy skip.

Always take these videos with a grain of salt, but there seem to be big improvements on the pro just running the base code in its current unoptimised state.

Yeah but many people were unhappy with the beta, it doesn't make sense to not include the changes that would guarantee you to seel even more copies, it's not a useless effort to show a game in better form for people that were undecited, it's literally the reason why you release a demo other than trying the servers...

Well i don't really care much, i barely did 3-4 hunts in the previous beta and i'm not gonna even touch this one, the game is too close to get burned by hunting the same 4 monsters 20 times each in the demo :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

If it's going to affect your main workflow and risk issues at launch, delays or whatever, it does. They don't really have to convince anyone with the beta, if the final game comes out and it is indeed improved then the people on the fence will watch DF or other tech channels and buy it anyway. Much better than a crappy launch version that reviewers will warn you to wait for patches.

The proof will be in the pudding, but I applaud of the mindset.

As someone that missed out on the previous test, I'll check this out. That being said, basically using the exact same build for another (and new) round of testing is a strange choice, lol.

I don't even need a beta to buy mh day one but it's pretty rich to say that they don't need to convince anyone with the beta.

Dude, why do you think demos exist in the first place?

A bad first impression goes a long way.

Another unoptimized, shitty performing game for the PS5 Pro incoming - at least for the first few 4-5 months taking into consideration A) Dragons Dogma 2 and B) the general performance of the previous beta.

They did convince people it will be a great game. They used the beta to collect feedback and they announced they are working on improving the main issues people had, seems like it's working as intended. Unlike other "Betas" that are just a slice of the full release for demo purposes, this really was early code with issues and they were upfront about it.

Oh wow, almost always in vrr range even in this state. Should run great with pssr and latest optimizations.

The current performance mode looks like poop unfortunately, but I did read somewhere that the latest build switched to a different reconstruction technique with better image quality. I don't know if they'll be using PSSR for the pro, but it'll be interesting to see what they do.
