From Shane's spot-on (imo) extended thoughts on Killer 7:

"I guarantee that unless you approach Killer 7 with an agenda to love it, you'll be disappointed. The shock of newness quickly wears off, revealing the shoddy, boring, and tragically limited game underneath. It's an interesting failure, and it's bloody creative, but it's not a good game."

But didn't Famitsu (who I personally trust more than any American publication) give it a 36/40. I'll at least rent this. It's probably one of those things that American reviewers just don't get, but I'm not gonna just go out and buy it.

I have the japanese version and it OWNS. I'm just waiting for the American version to come out. These reviews dont mean shit to me.

I shut my brain off and maneuvered a crosshair through three tedious, ugly, repetitive soul-draining levels to receive my pellets of heavily-stylized but ultimately incoherent cutscenes, yes. Maybe I hadn't charged my OMG ZANY meter enough beforehand; I dunno. I just felt dead inside after the third boss, so I quietly laid down in the street outside and let a truck run over me rather than continue.

I love Killer 7 :) I'm at the end of level five now (out of seven).

Edit: Just read Shane's blog bit--I don't agree. But "shit gameplay" = 6.0?

You have to admit that the 2nd boss was hilarious though :P

Whether you like it or not, the game does have a great sense of humor.

I liked Killer 7, but it's really not worth paying full price for. I'll wait for it to drop to 20-30 before I pick it up. I don't want to wait longer than that in case it's hard to find though.

Nintendo Power gave it an 8.5...Famitsu gave it a 36/40...I think if your the kind of person who wants Killer 7, and you know what to expect, then you'll like it. However, if you want it to be something it's not, then your not going to like it. As in EGM, OPM, whatever other outlets bombed the game.

Personally, I'm definitely picking it up.

Nice, a flipnic demo.

Killer 7 has been getting reviews all across the board but I am still going to check it out. I want to see how it turned out first hand, even if it turns out to be rather lame. I'll probably end up renting it and then buying it at the inevitable price drop.

killer 7 has been annoying me since it was announced 20 years ago. I'm sort of glad it's horrible.

Is the translation to this "I selectively choose who I like on a review-by-review basis (i.e., whenever it benefits my agenda)?"

Famitsu is fucking trash outside of "breaking" stories. Worst reviewers in the god-damned world, aggressively downplaying games from overseas. This shows a fundamental failure to be objective. American magazines would never do this, openly accepting and reviewing a billion Japanese games well.

This is seperate from Killer 7, of course. I have no opinion on it yet. Bebpo made me want to play it, and I intend to go in with an open mind. I hope it lives up to the praise Bebpo gave to it.

Famitsu is a fucking piece of shit. Ill never trust that fuckin shitty magazine.

There racist. They always give the shitty japanese games high scores and bomb every western game.

Heh. I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. But just in case, I don't really think it has to do with racism :P

Just about Every reviewr in the world scored Forza higher then GT4 or even,Yet Famitsu is the only review I know that scored GT4 highest. GT4 gets a 39/40 and they give forza a 31/40 . Fuck that shitty magazine

oh I agree, it's a shitty magazine in terms of reviews. I just don't think it has to do with racism.

(P.S. Not that I'm defending Famitsu--don't care about them--but GT4 is actually better. And even if Forza was better [hah], it'd be silly to call Famitsu racist because they didn't agree.)

Back to Killer 7. I enjoy the combat quite a bit, but I wish the game were harder--it'd be nice if it threw more enemies at me more often (the few times when I had to take out three or four guys real quickly were intense and awesome) and wasn't so easy to refill my health. Luckily, it's still easy to die if you're not being careful so you can't just rest easy knowing you've got health refills.

I was really excited back when this was first announced... then, waiting over 2 years for solid gameplay info got really fucking annoying. And now the reviews have mostly killed my interest. Maybe if it drops to $10 or so... it sounds weird enough that it might be worth that much. But that's about it.

Are you trying to create a giant thread or something?

No, you can use the search function to find the answers to any questions you have about that subject (and my opinions on it).

I really don't get this--the game sucks, so you'll wait for it to be cheap so you can buy it and not play it?

Believe me, I only pretend to care about other people's opinions. Search function is going too far! ;)

Wow, the biggest bullshit stsatment of the night. Go read every pro review gamespot,1up,EGM whatever all say Forza OWNS the shit out of gran turdismo and scored it higher then that fecal matter also. Go and get yourself educated before making out your ass statments.

Maybe the admin should make it so that you need to be a member before you can post at all.

As to the whole waiting for it to drop. It's not that the game is any better, really, it's that if you do end up hating it (and with games being so subjective what's to say what'll float your boat), it's better that you found this out and only lost $15 than being 3 times more out of pocket in order to make up your own mind.

Don't go from one extreme to another just to make a point, it only reveals intent.

Gran Turismo 4 is a fantastic game, one of the best racing games ever made. Just because Forza is better doesn't mean the prior is not.

ProTip: Using wordplays to try to be clever means the exact opposite! Saying things like "Turdismo" only makes you look more stupid, and everyone who reads your post more dumb by association! In fact, I lost some IQ points just now!

Famitsu sucks but I still like Killer 7...oh well.

For the people who played a few levels, decided it sucked, and threw it away/broke it in half/spit on it: Did you not want to find out the meaning to everything and what the story really was about?

Even if a game is absolutely dreadful to play, if I start a story that seems interesting I have to play it until the end because I want to know what all the symbolism and weird events meant. I mean it's hard to say a story is bad if you never even get far enough to find out what the story is in the first place. Not that I think Killer 7 has the greatest story ever mind you; it's flawed, has tons of plot holes, and some stuff is just wierd for wierdness's sake. But I did enjoy it especially as it wasn't a run of the mill tale.

You're the reason I still keep the faith, Bebpo! I usually agree with you. But I have a feeling (knowing my taste) that I am going to outright reject the story. It sounds dreadful from the stuff I read, but then again maybe it's the experience that counts here...

... damn : \ I was really hopin' K7 would do the trick for people --- Rez didn't do much convincin' .......

I guess it's the end of games experementing with their own art-style and art-direction ... from here on out games are set to visually emulate anything but game visuals......

But I have to admit that I was worried... .yea, at a gallery I love new-media installation-art pieces..... but 7 hours of it? I donno ... gotta have a really neat narrative and gameplay for that.... art-folks am cry indeed : [

still buyin' it (gotta put my vote in)

God, this post was painful to read. Proper structure, PLEASE.

Anyway, no... it's not the end of experimenting. Killer 7 aside (not gonna judge it), the rule is you still have to make a quality game behind the art.
