The games should be fine, i'm going to assume that the games will resize to 4:3 or 16:9
And thats not a DVI cable, thats a VGA cable, which is good still :)

Cool. Don't know much about TV standards, so I'll be able to stick the cable in my PC monitor and be good to go? What's the diff between a VGA/DVI connector? Also, I don't even know if they connector on my PC monitor is VGA or DVI. The cable I have sure looks like the one in that pic though.

I really know nothing about this stuff, so pardon my ignorance.

I wouldn't worry too much about HDMI being available. They'll probably just sell it as an add-on like they do their current HD-pack.

Its just a standard VGA (15 pin) cable. They would be mad not to give the option of DVI.

couldn't you just convert from VGA to DVI anyways? or is that a bad thing? Maybe that's why 1080i doesn't work properly from my PC to my HDTV :lol

I think converting really only works well from DVI->VGA not the other way around. It might work but it most certainly loses something.

Yep, you should be able to just plug your vga directly in to your computer monitor. DVI I think is a fairly new standard design to work with new lcds.

thank god. I'm buying a straight DVI cable soon then. Because while 720p looks "ok" like... text a little blurry, the 1080i mode is REALLY messed. I was hoping there was nothing wrong with my set and that is kinda relieving. I just got a DVI cable convertor from one of my vga card boxes and hooked it up backwards. But since it's a 720p native set i'm not really banking on the super high res for next gen.

edit: and plus since it's going from vga to DVI it's analog in the end instead of digital... maybe that's where i'm losing some data too.

Don't just take my word for it before you go and spend money :)
If its blurry throughout the image, its likely a cable issue.
Keep in mind, if your just using a standard HDTV set, your not going to get a crisp an image as a Computer monitor. Text is going to be a bit blurrier, especially towards the side of the image.

How exactly are you outputting to your tv? Nvidia/ATI Card? something else?

Nvidia GeForce 5700 VGA cable to DVI convertor straight to the HD set.

so, is it true you can detach x360 hard drive and use it as some kind of ipod ?
not true, right ?

That is correct. It's not an mp3 player. It's detachable yes, but it's not a thing more than that.

Hm I recently bought a DVI-D cable to connect to my 19" LCD instead of the VGA, and there was absolutely no difference at all.. What a waste of money:(

seems like they could have easily added that feature though. :(

it would have completely gelled with microsoft's idea of personalization too. Like... so much the idea itself could have a potential effect 10 fold that of ipod.

You have your music. You have your game saves. You have your own name, one which no one else has. Imagine going to someones house and plugging it in and boom. It's all you. You have your gamer score (which would be very cool if it showed on an LCD)

You know... a lot of ideas could have been cross-realised into such a device and it could have potentially been an i-pod killer even if it was unintentional.

Game Compatibility on Xbox Live
You can play any backward compatible Xbox Live games against someone who owns that same game on an Xbox. So, purely as an example, you might pop in your Halo 2 game in the Xbox 360 and connect to your friends playing Halo 2 on their Xbox units.

Note that the Xbox 360 will be backward compatible with the top selling Xbox games. Look for more details on compatibility as we draw closer to the launch.

!!!

anyway, the whole wireless controller fiasco sucks..

especially cuz there are only 2 front USB ports

They will include a wireless controller by standard, I think that's a given. You'll have the option to buy wired controllers though..

You're confused. When you use the DVI>VGA adapters that come with videocards you're not converting anything. DVI can carry an analog signal, in addition to the digital one, so you can pass through a VGA signal.

Other than that VGA and DVI are two very different beasts. Converting between the two is costly and not very good.

they better include a battery pak and charge cable with the console if a wireless controller is standard... especially if they include stuff like this...

The Xbox 360 Headset heightens the experience of the unprecedented online gaming community, Xbox Live, allowing gamers to strategize with teammates, trash-talk opponents or just chat with friends while playing their favorite games. It’s important to note that this headset is included with the Xbox 360 console.

Edit: i was just thinking... considering they are saying the headset is standard, and the component/composite cable is standard.. but dont say which controller is standard... what if it doesn't come with one in the box?

no, think about it for a second...

how does that remote work? If it has a guide button, does it flash for video chat etc? Does it take up one of your four controller slots?

Sounds good though.
