Yay or Nay

I know the fanboys have made many posts just to TRY junk the console, but to be honest I'm sure some are real. What do you think?
they sure did, people are afraid of the xbox's power

And, other than the robbery part, I'd say you're pretty lucky. Look, you've got a 360 in the bag anyway (M$ warranty), so no matter what you'll eventually have a 360 up and running. It's more than I and alot of my fellow gamers have atm....

I went out for dinner with my girlfriend. Left the house locked and security system on. Midway through dinner my girlfriends purse start vibrating.... it's my cellphone :lol security company says the alarm has sounded at my house. We rushed home got into, my HDTV from my livingroom was moved out of place (I have a security harnass used for keeping computer electronics etc strapped into place in public places on my TV so when they couldn't grab it and run they just took a bunch of DVD movies (24 season 1-3, Family guy DVD series etc) and my X360 games which were on top of those. Luckily my X360 was inside my liqur cabnet.

No, no, which GAMES did they take? And BTW I feel for you man, even if you're lucky enough to get a free console in the first place :) !

They stole my PD0 (hadn't even played it!) CoD2 (The ONLY WWII game I like what an awsome game) PGR3 (still sealed). I thought they took my Kameo also but it was mixed in with my Xbox games in my storage bins.

So what about the people who have problematic 360's who can't or won't bitch about it on the internet? If you assume that a small sample of people with problems means the condition is extremely isolated then you have never taken a statistics class. A simple trip to Teamxbox will net you tons of links to people reporting problems with pictures and videos to back it up. We still have no idea what percentage that really equates to but we do know that it IS uneccessary looking at a rival companies quality control. I don't know what Nintendo puts their systems through to make sure the break rate is damn near non existent but they need to share it with Sony and MS.

Fuck, they were robbers with excellent taste!

You need to get replacements for those games, man. Quick!

...Yea good taste with fast hands. Luckily I have reciepts for all the games and DVD's stolen, so my insurence is just going to give me the retail value of everything. I did replace the games the next day, except for PD0, I borrowed it from my friend, it killed my X360 twice! (first time it just stopped working after I tried to turn it on) second time, I fiddled with the PSU cord and it worked, during the intro the screen crashed and it started to smell like burned silicon (if you've ever burned a CPU or GPU from not using a HSF.. you'll know what I'm talking about). Now it won't even turn on.

Yeah, I'm of the belief that the incidents aren't so few and far between as most would make them out to be, but I also expected this kinda thing to happen. It's launch guys, remember....

Alrite, screw it. Even if you were a lucky bastard at first, it's clear to me that the tables have unfortunately turned on you. My apologies for trying to say otherwise. I hope verything works out okay, though.... :)

I'd assume some of the problems are exxagerated, but the issues mentioned on this forum seem to descriptive to just have been made up. Shit, this overheating problem was on the local news tonight has a headline! I think its more an issue of some of the people buying the thing and shoving the power brick behind a desk and standing the system up on the carpet with a wall right behind it. Then they play it for 12 hours straight and act like its MS fault when it overheats and shuts down.

I'm sure there faulty PSU's and harddrives out there but I think the number of these real problems is very low. I'm goign to say that as many as 1 in 20 360 owners have some sort of defect, and 1 out of every 1000 of folks with issues has an issue that needs proffesional servicing. Sucks to be that small percentage but has was also mentioned elsewhere countless times, it wouldn't be the first time launch systems had problems. The only big problem that's happening everywhere is the demo kiosks overheating like crazy. Which also happened with the original xbox and the dreamcast. Can't expect something to run very well being trapped inside a box when its running for 12 hours straight.

As for some comparing this to the dead pixel issue, I think that was far worse becuase the PSP seemed at launch to have only like 10% good stock. The other 9/10 units on the shelf all had atleast 1 burnt out pixel. I've got like 5 burnt out and 5 or 6 stuck pixels. Don't play the thing long enough to give a shit but it was a definete issue and probally still is.

Also, EGM92, that's some awful fucking luck man. It's cook that your insurance company is paying you back for the games though.

the console ISN'T rushed. Any defects to the system will have been caused by logistics (ie in transport)

All consoles are tested internally for 5 hours and then has human testing for 5 minutes.

So basically if there's any on the spot problems, most of the time it isn't a mistake in manufacturing

Maybe they should pack the consoles better?

Seriously, two pieces of cardboard, two thin pieces of foam, and just the cardboard box itself protects it.

They're shipped in cartons of two, no padding.

What were they thinking? I do believe my hard drive failure was caused by mishandling, but damn, only the side of the box protects the hard drive from a nasty fall. I read about some reports of cracked cases - this doesn't surprise me in the least.

I see the feedback system is still flawless.

Well I was reading my newspaper this morning and they had an article on all these reported problems. They quoted Kotaku the most and Slashdot saying gamers on game oriented websites were reporting crashes and freezes. The news is for sure passing on to casuals now and regardless if it's isolated incidents or not this is not good publicity for a console that just launched.

I have had no heat issues with my 360.

the only 2 issues i have had are...

One. the b button is mushy and not like the other buttons and i can not find any wireless controllers to exchange it with cuz everywhere is sold out

two. it has frozen twice when playing a game then going to the dashboard. when flipping around in the dashboard it just locks up making me stand up to turn it off and back on. so far this has happened twice and i do not think it matters what game it is in, seems to be a load issue in the dashboard of some kind.

hopefully these lock ups will be few and far between. once on PGR3 and once on PDZ so far.

I had a problem with the AV cable switch not switching to HDTV. When I called customer support, the guy said he'd heard of the problem before...but they are sending me a new one already (without me having to send mine in) and in the meantime I am using the cable from my other unit, so it's all good.

Exactly. Cry us a fucking river. I am sure the people who camped out in the rain for 12 hours and got shitted out of a new system so some fat troll could sell it on ebay will have little sympathy for your bitching.

This is the bottom line. There are reports on the TV news, in the newspaper, everywhere. I even had my 67-year old mother ask me if I got one and whether I thought these problems were a big deal or not.

People are used to coming home with a console, tossing it on the carpet and playing. You could do this with every other console to date. If Microsoft didn't test these things in that kind of environment, that's negligence on their part because videogame consoles, even $400 ones, are expected to perform like toys and be very durable. Most folks do not treat them like stereo components or computers like many of the people here (myself included) would do.

lol just about 20min ago my own mom mentioned to me that she heard on the news that they break (she remembered cause I told her if she happened to see one when she was out shopping yesterday, to pick one up so I could sell it for her on ebay for much $$)

very true. There is a limit of course (don't need to test if the system runs fine inside a covered box) but I would think a carpet test is needed. Since the dawn of videogames, consoles have had to run on the carpet.

i'm guessing you're one of those who waited out in the rain for 12hrs? :lol

I stayed up for 5 days straight, without "sleep", I took a 1 hour nap between 6-7am thats a lot harsher then waiting in the rain. Work, school, home, nap. If you got soaked that your own fault, should have looked at the weather report and went prepared for bad weather. If you wanted to assure yourself a unit, you should have pre-ordered from multiple locations like I did, luckily I won one.

The scare passed. If you were on message boards at the PSP launch it was all anyone was talking about. Now its not an issue.

You should have taken yours back for a replacement.

Uh, that's probably because launch was when most of us bought PSPs, since we're hardcore game nerds. For people who have yet to buy them, it's still an issue -- several people I know have considered buying them in recent months and the pixel issue has weighed heavily on all of them.

As for taking mine back, the store I got mine from refused. Suxorz.

funny you say that cuz that is exactly what i did.

set that baby up on the carpet next to my TV and started playing.

days later still no heat issues of any kind, not even warm.

Umm...some of the problems they listed were some problems I was having last night.
I think you guys with your perfectly working 360s should be happy and not flame people who are having problems with theirs and calling them (myself) liars.
My xbox is working fine for now. But I really hope those problems don't return.

Why do people with xbox360s that have problems get flamed?! give them a freaking break, it freaking sucks to pay hundreds for something you want and not have full enjoyment of it sheesh

DopeyFish said:

That's an bold statement. Do you have any evidence to back it up? Also, what is your source on the other statements about how Microsoft tests consoles? What is the system doing during the five hours of testing? Is every system tested, or is a representative sample tested? (The latter seems far more likely.)

What you're claiming is that it's somehow possible for routine transport from the manufacturing site to the point of sale to result in a non-functional system for a noticible percentage of people...yet, leave the box undamaged. If that's actually true, then the conclusion has to be that Xbox 360 is an AWFULLY fragile system -- and that would be a design flaw.

As for the original question, the "90-10 rule" is probably in effect here: 90% of what you hear about is the 10% which is a problem. It doesn't make the problems less real, but it does tend to cause the perception of a problem to be bigger than the actual size of the problem.

Don't you know? the X360 is PREFECT, it's god's gift to man! Anyone bad mouthing it or saying there are problems are fanboy trolls! This is GAF after all.

especially those who stood out in the cold, maybe even had to go through a lottery after preordering too... just to get any hardware home after all that crap , just to find it doesn't work must be very frustrating. I'd be pissed as well, especially if i was then told "oh, well, you'll have to wait anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks for a new one".

Regardless of the truth of what the actual defect rate is, regardless of whether it is above or below the "standard for electronic goods" , it's still going to leave those who get burned feeling pissed off.

the X360 is PREFECT

yeah, not sure i like that aspect though. I tried to go into my games room, and the bastard said that i couldn't go in until the 4th year kids had finished eating. Stood outside my own room for 20 minutes...

I know thanks, it's just a bitch when the real fanboys can't take the truth, YOUR PRODUCT ISN'T PEREFECT there are problems, like it or not it's reality!

Today I went to EB and some guy was picking up his pre-order and the clerk said if he'd like an extended warrenty and how there's problems with overheating, PSU problems, Red light issues etc. I backed up what he was saying and these 3 HUGE fanboys (Extremely obese, wearing X360 T-shirts size "OMG It's coming towards us!") start cussing at me saying I'm bullshitting nothing has been proven etc. In the end the buyer turned around and said "STFU you fat fucks, I have a broken console that I had to send in for repair" lol that made my day :lol

Nice. And I'm an Xbox whore.

Sometimes you gotta admit defeat when the chips are down.....Or you really don't give a fuck! :lol

Well, I got my new Xbox... oh I'm more pissed then I have been in the last 3 years!

I open it up, connect it, turns on fine, pop in PD0 "Loading" on the dashboard, then that blade pops out the one when you press the centre X button. says some BS about the game not be able to load, it could be out of region ect. So whatever I reset it... FUCKING RED LIGHTS ALL OVER AGAIN! My friend told me he fixed his problem by straightening his PSU cables, well it worked!!.... but during the damn startup with that X360 logo it locks up and just freezes.

The console is producing more heat then my Entire gaming PC put together (AMD64 3400+ OC'ed to 3.0ghz + X850XT PE card) I'm on the phone right now about to bitch at the reps again :(

Some people's 360's dont work and they are rightfully pissed that they have to wait until January to get a new one. So they posted it on a message board.
