Movies That Only You Like

Sometimes, when we watch a movie, we find ourselves enjoying it immensely, even loving it, only to discover later that you can't seem to find anybody else that enjoyed it (or whom appreciated the film to the same extent that you did).

Tell me, GAF, what are some movies that you think are good/great/amazing that have been received somewhat ambivalently by others?

The inspiration for this thread, for me, is my contribution. I just got finished watching Sunshine (2007), directed by Danny Boyle.

I've heard nothing but mixed reviews to, "It's okay" from critics and GAF alike; I'm told that MetaCritic has it at only 64/100. However, I like both Danny Boyle and science fiction, so I decided to Netflix it and see for myself.

Wow. I'm blown away by how much I enjoyed this movie. Everything about it, from the acting, to the cinematography (Oh GOD the cinematography), to the music, to the story (and yes, I even liked the last 20 or so minutes, you know the part I'm talking about). Seriously, it's like this movie exists to appeal to me; I'd possibly place it as my favorite Danny Boyle movie, but it's at least #2 (the problem is that I can't decide if I like it more than Trainspotting). Seriously, this is one of those movies that I have to sharply divide from the consensus and state that I love it love it love it (5/5 for me on Netflix).

Anyway, what are some movies that only you guys seem to like? I'm quite interested.

False.

I loved that movie, too.

I really thought Land of the Lost was funny...There were a few parts that had me rolling. Yes, the majority was stupid, childish, or corny, but overall, I thought it was worth the price of admission

Love the hell out of Dude, Where's My Car?
I am probably the only one.

it seems like i'm the only person in the world who loves mission: impossible - 2. this movie fuckin' rocks!!!!! FOCKING!

Idiocracy.
Everyone I know hates it. And all of them suck.

Oh god I love that movie.

And yea the House of Representin' speech was awesome. I loved the President's introduction and how he came out screaming...hilarious

A lot of people love Sunshine. I love Sunshine.

Let me see about films that I only like. I champion Freddy Got Fingered as the great avant-comedy of the decade but it gets some love on this board. I guess I think some films like Margot at the Wedding and About a Boy are greatly underrated and some of the best gems of this decade.

I also don't know too many people who would consider I am Cuba to be one of the top 20 greatest films of all time. I also think 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days is the most perfect film of the decade and has no flaws at all but that is something different.

Encino Man/Son In Law/Bio-Dome
Rocky V
Arthur
Dick Tracy
The Cable Guy
TMNT 3
Judge Dredd
Conan the Destroyer
Godfather III
Wayne's World 2
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure

I love Sunshine.

I also love 28 Weeks Later. So do the critics, GAF's hate of this film can go fuck itself.

Although it was extremely long and it bored all of my friends to DEATH at the theater, The Kite Runner.

Unbreakable

Knowing. And I usually hate the fuck out of Nic Cage. The atheist in me grinned from ear to ear the instant I figured out (within the first 5 minutes) the movie would be about aliens.

This is largely considered Tim Burton's best film at least in my circles but if you mean Big Top Pee Wee, I understand then.
I envy your circles then. Everyone I know hates it.... :\

Unbreakable is a great movie loved by many here on earth. Whats life like on your planet?

Sorry, didn't realise Unbreakable had cred on GAF. The classless heathens in my circle of friends all whinged about how the twist was lame compared to The Sixth Sense, but I knew better.

I think "Mystery Men" is fucking hilarious. I quote it all the time.

Plus, Tom Waits.

"The equations were so complex that most of the scientists who worked on it... wound up in an insane asylum!"

"Which is where Casanova's been hangin' for the last twenty years."

Scream 2
Cars (yeah, fuck the haters)
The War
The Final Destination trilogy
Vampire in Brooklyn (extremely underrated)

It is the only one too that doesn't feel dated and filled with his annoying everything on sets mall goth style (well Ed Wood doesn't either but doesn't hit masterpiece level like Pee Wee's Big Adventure).

Lady in the Water
It was a realistic fairytale with awesome music and art direction.
I think people were disappointed because the movie didn't show any actual magical elements.
Seriously, anyone else like this movie.

This reminds me I actually liked the Happening and it reminded me of B-movie sci-fi from the 1950s more than what the Mist was trying to be like and just a fun movie. My buddy Ryan said he liked it for it reminded him more of 1980s straight to video sci-fi but I guess that is just debatable.

That and the soundtrack is fucking amazing. :D

I actually really liked The Village. It's the last movie of his that I saw so no comment on jumping the shark, but The Village has some really incredible acting and dramatic moments.

Eraserhead, David Lynch, 1977

I don't even know.
Maybe it was that I watched it coming down from an acid trip that I found it so affecting and disturbing. I really enjoyed the awkwardness and it's ability to make the viewer feel so uncomfortable with the things that happened in the movie... That fucking baby...

Super Mario Bros the film

Everyone seems to hate it and mock it....I think the way it adapted the game was brilliant, and overall very fun. I want a sequel. :(

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
The Bourne Ultimatum
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Gone Baby Gone
House of Flying Daggers
In Bruges
Into the Wild
Juno
Michael Clayton
Mr. Brooks
Nothing But the Truth
Revolutionary Road
Sin City
The Incredible Hulk
Underworld (just the original)

hmm... I'm sure there's more, but the group I go with isn't exactly a sophisticated bunch. I still love 'em, and that's all that's important.

To a lesser extent, I kind liked these and was surprised my friends hated them:

30 Days of Night
The Air I Breathe
Babel
The Bank Job
Blindness
Body of Lies
Charlie Bartlett
Daredevil
Final Destination
The Kite Runner
The New World
RocknRolla
Saw III
Smokin' Aces
Spiderman 3
Street Kings
Sunshine
Turistas
Vantage Point
The Village
Wolf Creek

I haven't seen the Village yet actually. I might watch it on Demand someday over at a friend's house. I need to check out Lady in the Water too I suppose since this thread turned into a M Night guilty pleasure thread somehow.
