Ok, so I just got a TV tuner card for my PC, and am planning on using the thing to record some shows. Problem is, the file sizes tend to be a lot larger than I'd like. So, I'm trying to use VirtualDub to covert the MPEG-1 files that the recorder program produces into XVid files... except that the result is that the XVid file is bigger than the original. What gives? Can anyone help? Or do I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing? (Probably.)

If you increase the resolution of the file from MPEG1 to XViD, no matter how compressed XViD version is, the size will increase.

Keep the resolution the same. That's should solve it.

BTW, see if your capture card can capture with MPEG2 codec instead of MPEG1.

Also, use AutoGK for XViD conversion instead.

It can -- in fact, that's the default setting -- but VirtualDub refuses to open them.
MPEG import filter: invalid pack at postion 3: marker bit not set; possibly MPEG-2 stream.

Also, I didn't change the resolution.

I'll try downloading AGK tomorrow, though... maybe that'll work...
