At its pre-E3 new conference, Microsoft confirmed three major milestones: Japanese RPG giant Square Enix will create role-playing games for Xbox 360, starting with Final Fantasy XI with full Xbox Live compatibility. The game's content will remain the same, but obviously the graphics will see immense changes and improvements. Additional Square Enix games will follow.

Bigfonzie said:to be fair, microsoft showed mostly in game videos which is something sony did not, they showed pre renderd or cg stuff, also x360 had alot of (too much) EA stuff which i doubt uses the harware to the max.
Its a close call, but if p23 can do what those videos showed, then that is that.
Xellos said:Wow, what a complete disaster for MS. How the fuck could they plan Xbox 2 for so long and still be so unprepared? The launch lineup (outside of sports games) isn't looking too hot, and going off the demo vids PS3 already has a clear tech advantage only a week after X360. Total domination by Sony today.

According to multiple sources, ALL of the PS3 stuff was in-game. Sorry to burst your bubble there. And it's obvious.
Secondly, aren't Morrowind and Ghost Recon going to be multiplatform titles? I know they're announced as such. I'm pretty sure GOW will be Xbox exclusive whereas PS3 will get UT2007. But, I wouldn't be surprised at either being multiplatform.
This is such a one sided set of conferences, IMO with Sony just demolishing the 360. Now, certainly the 360 will be available this year and it will be tough to resist the temptation, but given the the PS3 will be out in the spring, it gets just a bit more bearable.
It seems like Microsoft has been caught completely flat-footed. Clearly, they're significanlty outclassed technically and with Gates' Halo vs PS3 launch comments, it seems clear they were expecting the PS3 to launch next holiday season.
Whoops.

Sony has just turned it up a notch, with bigger theoretical numbers, nicer presentation of the games themselves, and a better webcast of their conference.
Man, this is gonna be a fierce war. I love it!

wtf... i watched the Killzone video and all it was was a CG Cutscene. Even at that, the lighting in the GOW gameplay killed it.Jak140 said:Killzone and Motor Storm absolutely slaughter both of those games if these videos are realtime:

Watch demos 1 & 2.
Killzones in the middle of demo 1 and Motor Storm is at the end of demo 2.
Loki said:I'm not partial in the least (I don't even own any present-gen systems), but I find it amusing that people are quick to dismiss any good looking 360 game as "rendered" yet are eager to accept all PS3 footage as real time. Why is that? Seems people never learn from Sony's past...
PS3 footage was awesome, but honestly, some of the 360 titles are ace too. PGR3, for example (from the pics and video a couple of days ago), looked quite a ways better than the PS3 GT5 clip.
SailorDaravon said:FFXI is still doing pretty damn well, and although a lot of people are dismissing the 360 version, FFXI with better graphics along with an already existing online service is going to attract more people than you might think. Several of my friends and I never got around to the US version because we our computers couldn't run it (or don't like PC gaming), and didn't want to drop a hundred on the PS2 version. But we'd all planned on getting a 360 at some point, and Live is a given, so all of a sudden FFXI is appealing, and we'll probably all wind up getting it. Obviously that's not going to be the situation for everyone, but this is not as stupid as a move as most people are making it out to be. Although I agree a large majority of the rest of the conference was pretty crappy.
What would have been a cool S-E game that would have been a 360 shocker? World of Mana. THAT would have been a suprise.

Only on GAF can that conference be viewed as a disaster. One person even said that PS3's conference offered more "substance" compared to 360's "fluff". As if showing actual games we'll be playing in a few months time as opposed to a few renders and demos of things we have no solid info on is of more substance.
As if skipping the snoozefest powerpoint presentations and instead breaking down features about XboxLive/Media Center and actually explaining how things are going to work. They're doing everything right this time. Well, except for Rare.
But GAF's vision is but a small piece of the puzzle. Sony are worried about MS, you can tell just by the bumping up of the launch window. Big move by MS in securing Squenix support. Laugh at FFXI, but later on down the line expect some big titles from them.

I agree that the 360's PC was not "fluff", but there were plenty of "actual games" at the PS3 conference, too. You don't think we'll eventually be playing DMC4, Killzone, etc.? Plus, it would make sense that the PS3 titles wouldn't be as far in development -- it's launching several months later than the 360, after all.Sal Paradise Jr said:Only on GAF can that conference be viewed as a disaster. A console with a launch window that includes almost all major sports including a version of Madden not found anywhere else, a gorgeous and popular RPG (Oblivion), and NFS which looks very fun. Plus Kameo is looking very good, Odyssey looks incredible, a free Live package, PGR3, GoW, an absurdly good looking basketball game, and Ghost Recon are all coming out in the foreseeable future. I don't know how that is not considered to be impressive.

After both these conferences today are we sure Sony isn't launching Fall 2005 and MS needs an extra year to get their shit together?

what he was saying is, none of those were actually shown (other than GT5, which got owned by PGR3). everything shown for PS3 was almost 100% CG cutscenes.human5892 said:I agree that the 360's PC was not "fluff", but there were plenty of "actual games" at the PS3 conference, too. Unfortunately, all of those games (with the notable exception of Gears of War and possibly Oblivion) looked like Xbox + games. So yes, while it was great to see games, there was A) not a damn thing new about any of it and B) little that actually demonstrated a full generation gap.Sal Paradise Jr said::lol

Juice said:-Madden's also coming out for the other consoles, and supposedly with a few more gameplay tweaks than the 360 version.
-Most hardcore Elder Scrolls players play on the PC, and many who started with Morrowind on Xbox got pissed off by the lack of modability and expansions the PC offered. They'll play on PC next time.
-GoW isn't going to make launch, and looks like the type that'll keep getting delayed because it isn't fun (ala Brute Force).
-Ghost Recon isn't a very strong-selling franchise.
-All of the other games are either sequels to second-tier games available on Xbox that would have never pushed consoles then and won't know. Other than Kameo, but... c'mon.
The reason it's not impressive is that there isn't a killer app in any mainstream-friendly genre potentially available within a few months of launch.
Oh yeah, and the PS3 stuff looks far superior; gamers will be convinced that by the time anything must-own is out on Xbox, PS3 will be out.
Dreamcast 2 Get!
Loki said:For instance, why are we not inundated with new media and video right now for PGR3, GOW, Kameo etc. from the press conference, the way we were with PS3 stuff? Is it still too early, or did MS show the same exact PGR3/GOW sequences already seen in videos a couple of days ago?
They're dropping the ball in terms of generating buzz imo.
I would add Project Gotham Racing 3 and Ghost Recon 3 and Kameo to that. And if you considered the scope and scale, Call of Duty 2 (due to the large scale war going on). Not that CoD2 looked very good, but for the amount of shit they had going on, it was definately a big step over Xbox 1.MetatronM said:Unfortunately, all of those games (with the notable exception of Gears of War and possibly Oblivion) looked like Xbox + games.
