MTV Europe Xbox 360 Launch

Well thanks America!

I've just watched the MTV Xbox 360 special on Dutch television and it had 2 performances of snow patrol, 3 performances of the killers!

Maybe they decided not to show any of the games considering the response to the American show. Very very strange. Any other Europeans noticed this?
 
Lol, that was indeed incredibly lame.

In the commercial after the show they had a guy from Rare talking about 360 and PD0, they only showed some models though. :lol
 
I don't know about the rest of europe, but I know that in France such a "long 30 minute commercial" is not allowed so they had to cut all the footage that could be seen as advertising.
 
Yep, just saw it.

You could see like 2 seconds of game footage, and they unveiled the box. That was all when it came to gaming.
 
well i know 30 minute commercials are allowed in the UK, they used to have GAME shows on sky one.


I havent got MTV though so no idea if there was game footage in ours.
 
But they talked about that great new feature where you can play with your friends all over the world...IN REALTIME...It is called...XBOX LIVE
 
This is how it went down here:

"Here are The Killers!"

"Here's the future of gaming"

(chick runs on stage with bag, places xbox)

"Here's Snow Patrol!"

"Here's more Killers!"

Show over. So they cut out the game footage too. Some unveiling that was.
 
It was so lame. They realy were only performing and music and stuff. All this hype that all these celebrities would be there, damn. I only caught a few glimpes of Elijah Wood, let alone the other celebrities.
 
MS is making some weird petitions to the media regarding pics and information, I guess Blimblim and the local euro journos can confirm this.

I don't know the basis of this, but they are handing the whole thing in a very extrange manner.
 
Blim is right, it's because of the law and all of that crap. It wasn't even called xbox 360 unveiling, they called it 'secret game launch' or something like that. They only talked about xbox in the commercials.

Just watched the us show again, it's so much better and that's not saying much,

I didn't read this thread throughout the day. Now I'm surprised they did something like that. I mean... wtf?

18 minutes of The Killers/Snow Patrol playing. 4 minutes of commercials. 3 minutes of interviews with the musicians. 2 minutes of Frodo talking. 1 minute of random celebs talking. LESS THAN ONE MINUTE OF XBOX 360.

Sorry, who are we to blame, Microsoft or MTV?

MS: "We'll pay you $3 million to make an event promoting our console and show it on your channel. Half hour will be okay."
MTV: "Uh, okay. Can we put some music performances between Fro... Eiljah Wood talking about your console?"
MS: "Yeah, sure, just give us a few seconds of airtime to raise the hype level."
MTV: "k"
 
Fuck me. Nothing in the UK either. Just songs, no games. A couple of people saying 'yeah, I quite like gaming' and thats it!

there was a big ad in the middle where they showed you the machine, but no games.

I had my stopwatch ready to time the actual game footage too - well that was easy

I just finished watching it and there was no game footage! What a crock of shit.

They showed Perfect Dark for about 0.5 seconds during an interview with the bands. They must be too embarrassed to have shown any more. LOL

well, it was very exciting. I saw some stupid bands perform, and that's about it
 
So, the UK one just finished and all I can say is:

What. The. Fuck.

There was almost nothing to do with the console. I watched the US one this morning and thought it was rather shit. I've now learned my lesson. I just wonder if it's MTV Europe's fault for putting restrictions on the show or Microsoft's fault for not pushing to get the real thing aired.

Either way, that was fucking worthless.

In Portugal it aired half an hour early. They really don't want people to see it, it seems! :lol I sure didn't see it because of that. But seeing how they cut out the games, I can't say I would want to see it.
 
The Rare-PD0 guys looked like tax cheats who were just audited...or county road-workers caught downing six-packs during brunch hour...or...etc...
 
The killers were quite good though, Snowpatrol weren't bad. Whats with the British bands at an US console launch. And Klaw they are not digging themselves in a hole they are just getting the console name into the mainstream minds and thats exactly what MTV is good for.
 
I wasn't really paying attention to the show and i was blaming myself for not seeing any game footage. Now it turns out that there wasn't any game footage shown. good!
 
can some kind soul point us poor little Europeans towards a full res download/torrent of the games? The one I downloaded from Blim's site this morning was a little low res and I was looking forward in a sad way to seeing the games on my nice HDTV, pretending I was playing them maybe.....sniff..

then they should have played it down to us game nutters. On the one hand warm up the casuals who have never heard of it anyway, don't care, and won't buy it for £300. Simultaneously alienate your entire early adopter market.

That sounds like a hole to me.

Still, E3 is only a week away. But its going to have to go some to beat the sheer melodrama of today :)

Stupid Xbox 360 ad full of eupeans speaking the most silly sentences in the history of mankind ("the controller is so comfortable that you could sleep on it").

J.Allard and company speak something midly interesting about what it´s capable the system but without any game footage.

Yeah, same thing happened in Poland. Half an hour earlier.

Funny how it took MTV one day to edit everything out of the US version and show it on TV. One whole day.
 
Sweden just got something extra I think. That guy... Jay Allard? Anyways, he talked a bit about it, then some fat guy talked about downloading skins and themes to your dashboard. That's aboot it.

Edit: I think I just saw Halo 2.5 run on it. The attack rifle (3 shots) had some major bumpmapping and the game had teh slowdowns. :P

But that was not part of the program, just advertisement in the commercial break.
 
The only thing I really liked from that glorious pile of crap was that advert talking about the console in all the different languages with the subtitles underneath. If they use something like that coming closer to release day with a few movies of games threw in then I will be happy.

You forgot the best bit - when one of the bands finished playing and Elijah Wood turns to the camera and goes - "wow, rad" :D
