MTV to Shut Down Music Channels After 40 Years as Paramount Restructures Global Network

Eh, it's just the spinoff channels so the 40 years part isn't relevant. As for the OG mtv not showing videos

Good times. A channel that defined a rebellious, counter-culture of a generation. Set a tidal cultural wave impact in terms of trends, art, fashions and icons. I'll miss it.

Last I checked, its devolved into an abundance of reality TV shows which have nothing in common with what it originally was about. It slowly began to decline once the internet took off. Now, people can independently make their own artistic music vids on places like Youtube or whatever.

Guess it's back to moving these refrigerators and color TV's.
And man that song is so old they were still specifying that the TV's had color.

That song is so old they use the word "faggot" thrice in the lyrics and they didn't get canceled.

Now that's old!

I thought it was all reality tv shows nowadays, they still had music channels in the EU? LOL..

Shout out to my favourite VJ of theirs, Paul King.

Maybe it's my age, or the fact that I haven't had cable since I lived with my parents as a kid, but I didn't realize that MTV even still existed.

most versions of the song on streaming just cut out that entire verse lol, although it's not hard to find the full one.

I had some good times with MTV, with shows like Celebrity Deathmatch, Daria, Beavis Butthead, Drawn Together...

The late 90s were a good time. It had its Dark Ages, like 2000, specifically 2001, when there was a similar show in Mexico, where I appeared on television interviewing a Norwegian pop group.

As much as I preferred it when MTV was about the music, it did have some good shows, Beavis and Butthead (though that was music), Daria and these two.

Wait, you were a TV host? Link to the clip?

I remember when MTV was synonymous with rock bands ... No other genre UNTIL Thriller came out (the album AND the music video/short film). That opened the floodgates for other genres of music (R&B, Hip hop, Soul, etc).
