MURICA, f*ck yeah

The four reasons:

4. Hardware Specs Alone Won't Win a Console War
True this, but $100 more with worse specs isn't good.
3. Toppling the Leading Incumbent is Easier Said than Done
Nintendo 2007 vs. Nintendo now. Sony 2001 vs. Sony 2007. PS3 and Xbox 360 are practically even on sales. What point is this supposed to make?
2. Microsoft's Online Gaming Backbone Puts Sony (and Nintendo) to Shame
True, but they're getting closer. It's becoming less of a selling point.
1. Modern Consoles Are Entertainment Hubs -- And the Numbers Prove It
And they already have boxes that can do everything they want.

Xbox One could very well do great, but not for those 4 reasons.

Renting away games for free because your online infrastructure is getting the pants beat off of it by a competitor which costs more and is mandatory isn't a good thing. Last-gen Xbox Live was a much better service, infrastructure-wise, if not feature-wise.

Hahah I like jokes.
Also I found nothing wrong with PSN especially if you have PSN+, like most people I had both consoles since release. XBL is nothing special and people that wag their dicks about it are still living in 2005.

I'm thinking to myself how PS4 won't be an entertainment hub. Other than the connecting to the cable box i'm sure the PS4 can do anything the Xbox One can.

Without Xbox One how can you watch TV AND look at your fantasy team? These are the questions that need to be answered by Sony.

Yes. The reports of Xbox's death are greatly exaggerated.

It will still win NA and be close WW when we look back 5years from now

Good to hear about the black tusk game looking good... curious about how it will play though...

Also to respond to OP...
The article does not mention creating a device which consumers trust... and microsoft must (if not shoot me) have extremely low consumer trust after all the stuff they have tried to pull.

I sure hope this isn't Twitch...it's a big deal for me personally, I love Twitch. Only other announced partnership is NFL right? Wouldn't bother me, living in the UK that's a pretty irrelevant partnership anyway.

He's probably talking about the NFL deal falling through, which would make some say "wow" as to how heavily they touted it during the reveal(?). Plus, it lines up with when football starts, so they would probably break the news then.

So I guessed wrong on that account then. Wondering what specifically has been cancelled then?

Kinda hoping others are right on Twitch partnership falling through, and that twitch support shows up on Playstation consoles... Almost never visit Ustream, heh.

Kinda tickled that people believe the Xbone will win NA by sheer principle of the 360 being the current market leader here. Look how well that's worked out for Sony/Sega/Nintendo in the past.

Not saying there's a guarantee one way or the other - it's the market MS has their best chance in - but this assumption that MS will take NA by default is unfounded.

If they were both the same price, I could see a scenario where Xbox dominates the PS4 everywhere except Japan.

As it stands right now, nope.

Yup, same here. At first, it was a blatantly anti-consumer product. Now, it feels like a trojan horse.
This. It seems like they're trying a bait and switch.

Reasons:
  • Once the Xbone starts getting hacked I expect DRM to be back in. Who's fault would it be? In the eyes of the consumers not Microsoft's; the hackers will get the blame. Microsoft will jump on any excuse to lock down the DRM.
  • You still have to connect online when you first get it to remove the DRM. When they change back to the always on DRM they'll be able to say "welp, all our users connected online already".
  • They can change some of the Xbone hardware and software before launch, but they can't have the system pre-patched with the DRM removal? Maybe it's just me, but this seems weird.

I love how this article makes the assumption that Sony's current position will remain unchanged. Its pretty obvious between what we have seen with Vita and everything that Sony has mentioned about online that PS+will be likely achieve parity with Live and if it keeps its current value proposition will be superior. Thats also forgetting that Sony plans to unleash Gaikai next year.

The $100 price difference is the biggest obstacle to the One's "winning" next gen, no matter what territory. Huge blunder by MS.

Nice to read CBOAT's stuff about Black Tusk, can't wait to see what's going on there.

I'd imagine he's talking about an app deal that wasn't announced.

As it stands right now, nope.

360 being cheaper than PS3 AND being release a year earlier didn't make it sell better than PS3.
Do you say that because you think us europeans love DRM so much or something?

I just saw a CBOAT post I didn't see in another thread and it seems like he actually is suggesting an announced feature that is going to be canceled. So maybe it's not an unannounced app.

As I posted earlier. The Twitch partnership doesn't make much sense in this context. The post CBOAT is referring to mentions that the decision is being made off of Xbox 360 app data.

I hope whatever it is, MS manages to sort it out like they did with the 180, if not why wait till September for an announcement? Great to hear that Black Tusks game is looking good, I'm still curious what kind of game it is/will be. Hope we hear more at Gamescom.

3. Toppling the Leading Incumbent is Easier Said than Done

How is this an argument for the Xbone? The 360 is Nr 3 in the market...

I can agree that the Xbone might beat the Wii U (the leading incumbent), but getting ahead of the Playstation will be hard (they didn't managed with a year head start, now they are on a level playing field).

Here's an interesting article from Betanews, the author explains why he believes that XBO will be the winner in the next generation battle:

http://betanews.com/2013/08/03/four-big-reasons-xbox-one-not-ps4-will-win-over-the-masses/

The four reasons:

4. Hardware Specs Alone Won't Win a Console War
3. Toppling the Leading Incumbent is Easier Said than Done
2. Microsoft's Online Gaming Backbone Puts Sony (and Nintendo) to Shame
1. Modern Consoles Are Entertainment Hubs -- And the Numbers Prove It

And this console hides most of those entertainment features and apps behind a Paywall. You have to pay for your cable/satellite subscription, you pay for your Netflix subscription, then you have to pay for an Xbox Live Gold subscription to even use them on the Xbox One. Makes zero sense.

Why would they even reveal or announce they are cancelling an unannounced app or feature? They wouldn't say a word.

He didn't mention that MS would be announcing the cancellation in the post in this thread, just that big deal likely fell through and he wouldn't get confirmation until Sept.

Though in a previous post in a different thread that I did not see until after I made that post, suggested that it was an already announced feature.

I'm gonna try my hand at this:

Excuse me sir.

What the fuck?! Concerned citizens, [[PM me saying what you think and why]]. <-------- unsure about that
That was not what I was saying at all. I'm talking about a specific big app and deal that fell through but I need more confirmation (In mid-september. I said this already. Please don't put words into my mouth)

Paywall is not switched off on Xbox One as far as I know.
Netflix and other apps still require Gold as of now.

Midseptember for confirmation, learned my lesson from Halo + Prince of Persia.

Oh, by the way, good news for Xbox One! Black Tusk's game is still running a bit late in preproduction but looks fucking great. They have some skilled developers on animation and audio especially.

The first part I'd disagree on and correct like this:

Excuse me sir,

What the fuck? Concerned citizens have PMed me saying you all think this, and no. That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm talking about a specific big app and deal for a partner and I'm getting more confirmation. (Mid-September, I said this already. Don't put words in my mouth please)

I sure hope this isn't Twitch...it's a big deal for me personally, I love Twitch. Only other announced partnership is NFL right? Wouldn't bother me, living in the UK that's a pretty irrelevant partnership anyway.

Actually, that's exactly what my mind went to (Twitch).

My speculation: Twitch (OS level integration) is no longer an exclusive. PS4 is allowed to use it now too. Before Twitch was getting around the loophole saying developers can integrate twitch streaming into their games so it's possible on the ps4.

NFL cancellation? Well that may be possible as well.

Twitch makes sense, though I don't think it was ever actually claimed to be exclusive. MS may have been trying to nail that down, but with the way the wind is blowing it would be wise of Twitch not to hitch their wagon to just the Xbox One. I've personally assumed that Twitch would be a streaming option for PS4 all along.

Other options could be ESPN3 or HBO Go. With Netflix proving that people much prefer to stream on platforms with no paywall, it makes sense to get those services on PlayStation ASAP.
