... I like it! Not that it's the greatest band since bands were first created, but it's new and neat!

The first two tracks on the self-titled EP are hot as shit. The rest isn't so great. I was pretty disappointed by Silent Alarm, but to be honest, I only gave it a couple quick once-overs.

They're no Franz Ferdinand.

I've heard people say they think they'll be the next Franz but I'm just not feeling it.. it's okay but not great.

Actually, after listening to the whole thing, I've got to say that their album as a whole is superior to Franz Ferdinand's debut album.

You need new ears, mang.

How can you like that shit?

I hate them. Their vocalist is terrible, their songs are all driven by dull Gang of Four-esque riffs.. it boggles the mind. At least I can see why people like Franz Ferdinand, they have great hooks, but this band..I'm totally confused. I swear, the most terrible bands are being hyped to the heavens nowadays. The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, etc. at least had good tunes behind all that hype.

Franz is overrated. They have one great single and two great tracks. That's it. Not even Album of the Year.

"Van Tango," a b-side, is better than pretty much everything on Silent Alarm.

That Franz record is pretty much perfect. Every song is absolutely killer. And the riff for "Take Me Out" just slays. They're the first band in a long time that comes even close to deserving the amount of press they get. They're tight as hell, and that record is outstanding.

I do fear where their followup goes, but that'll never tarnish the quality of the self-titled record.

"Take Me Out" is great. They've got two other good tracks. That's it. Now, don't get me wrong. I enjoy Franz, but they're mega-overrated. I'm glad they didn't win any major awards. Most of the album is disposable.

It looks like Bloc Party might be similar in that respect, but Silent Alarm > Franz Ferdinand.

Sorry Vark, didn't spot the link. I'm tellin' you man. Come to Muldoon's and we'll listen to Bloc Party on my iPod... or get sloshed!

Banquet was fresh and new when I first heard it a while back (seems like an eternity ago). There new single out (in the UK at least) is kind of catchy.

Still contemplating the album. There's too much other stuff I want to get first. :\

Bwahaha Muldoons. Does Jack Diamond still do weekend stuff there? Aside from the fact that it's maybe 5min from the office I can't see going to a bar in a strip mall.

Find ye Brickskellers, and know ye what a real pub is like.

Actually better yet, and less of a metro trip, you should check out Roy's Place in Old Town Gaithersburg. It doesn't have a party crowd, and it's more a stop for the serious drinker, but best sandwich's in the state and atmosphere to boot.

Not that I know of!

Hey, Muldoon's is a fine establishment! I know people who work there. And it's also close and my friends are lazy.

Find ye Brickskellers, and know ye what a real pub is like.

Proximity rules!

The album's pretty good. Liked some of the singles/EP from last year, too.

And Franz Ferdinand is fucking terrible, you nitwits.

I kind of think Franz Ferdinand's next album will flop and everyone will get over this indie-dance/Gang of Four type shit. Then we'll look back and be like "What a crazy trend that was!"

Franz is the only band of that whole 'scene' that I think will have any staying power whatsoever. They're far better than any of the other bands.

But we all know that it'll be The Killers who get all the money. Mediocrity sells.

aside from banquet, she's hearing voices and like eating glass the album is too monotonous. all the songs sound the same, repetitive drum beats, repetitive rythms, similar vocal style.
franz switches gears frquently within songs, they got a good sense of what would be fun to listen to.
there's another of these bands coming out, "the bravery", i think they are better than bloc party, they got a few good singles in their debut album.
only FF and killers stand out to me though. one is a critic's darling, the other a bunch of certified radio hit makers.
edit: my spelling is shot to shit.
