My warranty expires back in May. I always knew computer would get fuxxxxxed after the warranty expiration date. Right now i'm using 13in HP Pavilion mx50 monitor.

It 's nothing wrong with the monitor itself just the "on/off switch button" broke. I believe the spring and plastic stick snapped behind it and I was wondering can that be fixed? Or i'm better off buying a new one?

Did anyone have a similar problem with this?

Buy a cheap switch at Frys or Radio Shack and rig something up to fix it. Might look ghetto, should work fine.

Sure it can be fixed. Its just a switch. Had the same thing happen to me with a Dell powerbutton a little over a year ago. If you are comfortable opening it up and replacing the part you can call any 'mac parts shop' (like your apple store) and get a replacement switch or just replace the switch with another switch from some other vendor.

As an FYI, just put the machine to sleep in the future. Macs and PCs have long gone beyond the days where they need to actually be shutdown.
