My Dream DS Game

While I was playing Sam and Max (thanks to SCUMMVM), I was thinking about what could be an awesome DS game. A point and click Mario and/or Luigi game. Everyone already knows that the DS would be perfect for this genre of games, but how do you think the whole Mario thing would come across in this genre? I don't see why Mario can not defeat Bowser and save the princess point and click style.

That wouldn't be uniquely Mario, though. Sure it could work, but the only thing seperating something like that from, say, Blazing Dragons, would be the graphics and sound.

That's kind of why all of the Mario RPGs, particularly Super Mario RPG and Mario & Luigi, have been very jump and action-focused. That helps tie the genre in with the original series, so you aren't abandoning some of the old concepts while you try this new thing.

Who says that one of Mario's actions on an object can't be jump? Jump to hit something with your head, or jump on top of something to cause a reaction.

I dunno, I heard the Mario universe is set to be fleshed out much more as shown in the RPG games. Real depth will be added. Same for Zelda.

It could work, but why would you want it? Point and click revolves around stories, puzzles and dialogue, Mario games are not usually strong on these things if they exist at all. Mario is about action, and I'm not sure I want an adventure game built around Mario characters. No themes or interesting level of depth to the characters. Even in Mario RPG the plot is more like a platformer story with no character development etc.

There has been a few "graphics adventure" type Mario games on the SNES... I don't remember them doing too well though.

I think Mario is all about action, if you have an action oriented graphics adventure, that's pretty much what we are playing on M&L already...

Shigy would not be down with a pure point and click, not his style.

If Intelligent Systems did it, it would be infused with plenty of character, humor, and indeed, even story elements. It's certainly do-able, I think.
