I just nuked my home system - it's been a year since the last install and stuff was getting a little laggy. Anyways, I have an audio card and a USB controller in there and damned if I know where the original install CDs are...or even who the manufacturers are. Is there a quick and easy way to find this out using XP? Pulling out the card and looking didn't help, btw, there aren't any defining trademarks on either one.

Oh yeah, my new wireless hookup isn't recognizing my wireless card, but that's another query for another day.

I'll try the serial number thing when I get home, although without my wireless internet working, damned if I know how I'll look anything up. :\

Device manager?

Does it just say Audio codec or something?
Well, still haven't enjoyed any success...any other ideas? Looking in Device Manager, it looks like:

? Other devices
-- ?! Multimedia Audio Controller
-- ?! Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

Check properties for the Audio Controller, and I see:

Device type: Other devices
Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: PCI Slot 4 (PCI bus 0, device 12, function 0)

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
Help!

look at the card, look at the chips, write down any information (like chip numbers) or any name.

Then hop on to google and start referencing those numbers and names and you might find a driver

Never mind, I found PCIinfo...but it refuses to work under XP, it seems to think I'm running Windows NT for some reason. Any more ideas?

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
What is so hard about opening the PC up and reading the info on the devices in question?

USB controller - Built-in to the motherboard?

Sound - It's PCI, did you build this yourself? If not you can generally get this information from the manufacturers' website.

If not.. You might try the dxdiag utility. It will have a tab designated for sound. It may not just pull all of it's information from the driver though.
