Article:
OpenAI is buying Jony Ive's startup, io, for $6.5 billion, as first reported by The New York Times. The company confirmed the news in a blog post on its website headlined by the photo you see above, which is apparently real and not AI generated. As part of the deal, Ive and his design studio, LoveForm, will continue to work independently of OpenAI. However, Scott Cannon, Evans Hankey and Tang Tan, who co-founded io with Ive, will become OpenAI employees, alongside about 50 other engineers, designers and researchers. In collaboration with OpenAI's existing teams, they'll work on hardware that allows people to interact with OpenAI's technologies.

That's a hell of a pre-revenue valuation for a company, and Sam doesn't even get the man himself

That valuation is out of control for a company with zero sales and making a product its not even clear people want to buy.

Remember Lucas sold Star Wars for only 4 Billiion.

Sam Altman being offered 6.5B for a company he co-founded a year or two back:

They make billions for their venture capitalist.

Jony Ive made billions.

The valuation is mostly like a sham (in this case an actual crime).
This is an all stock purchase. Buy some stupidly valued company, dilute non-profit entities stake in the process.

Jony Ive has done nothing for decades. An absolute cringe wanker and waste of space.
Any time I see one of those cringe old man hipster poseurs (keynote wannabe tossers who talk with their hands) around Starbucks I want to glass the cunt.

OpenAI is non profit and Elon stopped them turning it into a for profit so Sam made this fake, jack off, worthless company with Johnny (who sat on his arse since Jobs died - no issue tbh, I'd have absolutely done the same) so openAI could buy it so Sam could actually get some money.

Christ that video was a self indulgent wankfest... You're amazing.. no you're amazing... Oh fuck off and that photo.. where do you start!? 2 incredibly rich bastards about to release what exactly on the world? A digital goop egg?

Altman is pretty insufferable, yeah. Dude has negative aura.

After quitting Apple, in addition to designing a button and a font, Sir Jony and his 6.5BUSD team also designed a foldable red nose

Thank goodness, the days when you had to place the red nose on your nose and it didn't fold, the amount of space it took up in your house was crazy. This design really revolutionised the red nose and brought it to new heights.

I am obviously being a facetious prick, but I think Jonny Ive is a cool guy with a lot of very clever ideas. He's the designer of the iPhone ffs, so he is obviously a legend.

I just don't get what this endeavour is all about, I work in tech and enjoy it, I wish we could use it to do more good in the world. I always come from a position of an attacker though, we are seeing some serious threats against our organisation, infrastructure being deployed by AI, payloads being written by AI to bypass Web application firewalls etc. I just see AI getting more and more deep rooted in to our critical systems over the next 15-20 years and I don't know what to think about it yet.

I think our generation will miss out on the real interesting stuff, imagine what this shit will look like in 100 years it will be insane.

I want to see AI help with some real world issues, climate change, economy, healthcare etc. not creating studio ghibli art of everyone on the planet on my LinkedIn 😅
