My home computer was a virus mecca

I got home from college the other day, and I hopped on my home computer to check my email. I thought to myself, "I bet this computer has been turned-out by the Internet," so I went back to my room to get Norton Internet Security 2005 (which was on my computer in my dorm) and decided to install it on the home computer...the one that my mom, dad, and brother use.

:lol. There was a lot there:

When spyware first started becoming an issue, I scanned my old computer just to see how much was in there... 1700+ ... MY GOD! That's what 3 stragiht years of cable internet and no firewall will do to you :lol

I'm currently in the midst of a spyware crisis, and will probably have to do a full reformat soon. Multiple Ad-Aware, Norton, and Spybot scans have proved to be ineffectual. Does anyone know of any other utilities besides these three that might help?

What sucks is that I got all this crap from what appeared to be a legit site. I think there was a link to Jessica Alba pics posted in a thread here a few weeks ago (perhaps it was another forum), and when I followed it, it was a legit celebrity photo site. Then, on the bottom, it had links to other galleries for each celeb, so I clicked on one of them. That was the beginning of the end for me-- I got an insane amount of pop-ups, and numerous auto-installations began running. I had no problems with my PC before whatever site it was that that linked to (which I never got to see, because my PC and browser was so bogged down with crud). Ridiculous.

Hah, LakeEarth, I had about 1500 spyware "critical objects" in the past week alone. I'm riddled with the stuff. :(

Microsofts own Anti Spyware program has been pretty good at killing a few things that Ad-Aware and Spybot couldn't take care of. Might be worth a shot for you.
