I'm in the computer lab and thecomp I am at has a broken space bar. So bear with me.

At home my computer says it is connected to the network and it will send packets and recieve some but then it freezes. When I try to load a webpage itsays the page cannot be displayed. It just stoppedworking one day after I rebooted my computer. I installed a new lan card andinstalled the drivers too. By all inspections, it looks as if it should be working. Grrrrargh!

I called my provider and he says "Its probably a virus." so hopefully when the tech guy gets here he can fix it because I've tried everything.

Its not the provider's end because I tried my friends laptop and it worked. Not having internet for 4 days sucks. Scary computer lab people!

Yeah, my internet went down for like 5 days in June. Damn that sucked. It was like not having tv, but much worse. SBC gave me a new dsl modem for free though, that was nice of them. :D

My internet goes down every once in a while, but it is always a virus. Try downloading stinger or something 8D

shitting in the alley outside your window
there is an initial sending and receiving of packets when it attempts to make a connection. since it doesnt, that's why the packet transfers stop. chances are, the new drivers overwrote some of the tcp/ip settings you have setup. try opening up a command prompt and typing ipconfig and see if you're getting a DNS suffix and network ip address.

edit: oh well, i misunderstood.. i thought you were saying it happened *after* you installed the new card :)

Is there a way I can download the current virus definitions on a disk and install it on my computer? Or is this Stinger thing the best way to go?

The computer tech they sent couldn't figure it out and said he'd be back at 7 so I waited and he never showed. Bastard.
