We took Meatball in for her last round of vaccinations and discovered that her 2 hairless spots were actually demodex mange.
It requires 4-6 dippings in order to treat this and they have to keep her at the vet the entire day of the dipping. Not only that, but the dipping makes her lethargic the entire following day, which will be tomorrow. :(

I just feel so bad for my pup. First she's forced to live in shit conditions for the first couple months of her life and then she's attacked by a boxer and another stray and comes close to death... Now, because she lived in those conditions previously, she has Demodex mange. She is the sweetest dog I've ever encountered and everyone who works at the local vet has fallen in love with her.

Here is the picture the doctor sent us of the Demodex mites that are crawling all over my pup.

At least she'll be a nice little domesticated plagahound.

That sucks man. Sorry to hear that my dog's twin has had such a rough start. But one lethargic day, and she'll be back to her playfull puppy self.

Sounds like your twin is the lucky one :)
Have you had any pup trouble?

BTW... How old is she?

We had to put my old dog down because she caught some sort of dog skin infection called hotspot. The creams and other stuff the vet sold us didnt work well enough, and the infection spread all over her face. We took care of her so much.

There's nothing worse than waking up one morning and being greeted by your dog with her face/muzzle area looking like a ultra battle damaged terminator complete with the chunks of flesh between her nails/toes, covered in blood with the left half of her face nearly ripped off from the scraching :( Just like nothing was wrong. I think my dog WAS a terminator dog :((

We eventually managed to contain the skin infection (and yes, we got her a cone), but then it got worse, she started losing hearing, and became very paranoid and scared. At the end, the infection came back, and we had to make her put down by the vet :( It was too much for her. She went senile and starting crapping all over the place, she attacked my console rack (!) and threw my gamecube down, and even gnawed on the rogue squadron cd that got ejected!!

She started not recognizing us at all at the end, except for me, since I was with her all the time. The rest of the family had to put the cream on her wounds and stuff, and it was hurting her a lot, so she became really scared of them :(

That was my depressing post of the night! Give a cookie or two to your dogs tonight for me! I miss having a dog around the house.

I thought you meant your daughter. :lol

Somehow I went the entire first paragraph thinking the same thing.

"Meatball? That's a peculiar nickname for a child"

...

"They'd keep your daughter overnight for this?"

...

"Oooooh"

She's been pretty lucky. She has to take some allergy medication because she is really allergic to grass. I know. A dog allergic to grass, crazy stuff. We got concerned because she was starting to constantly scratch at her back. It got to the point that you'd just be petting her and when you got to her tail end she'd start to twitch and try to scratch at herself while standing. She eventually started biting herself and tearing fur out. Not cool. So we took her into the vet and they diagnosed her, gave us some medication and she's been great ever since. Beyond that, we've had no real trouble with her. House broken in like 3 days, amazingly enough. She got spayed around 6 months old, and she was spooked for a day or two, but she came around real quick.

She is actually about a year and 2 moths old right now. Those pictures, on my now down site, are actually quite old. I need to take some more pictures next time I have her over for awhile.

How much does she weigh? Meatball is 4-5 months old and she weighs 21 lbs.

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
I thought it was your daughter, so when you mentioned her name was meatball, I cracked up :lol

You are so abusive.

;) Think of it this way, you saved her life. The way it sounds she was treated before, she probably wouldn't have seen her next birthday.

Man, now I'm going to be thinking about my own dog all day. He's 900 miles away, and I won't see him for at least another month :|

Well look at the way you're holding your dog in that picture. It's too feminine. You need to *BAM!*, man it up a notch. Taking the picture again, but this time look directly into the camera and have the meanest grimmace on your face you can muster. Then photoshop some bulgy veins on your arms and photoshop or MSPaint some rabid foam coming out of your dog's mouth. Also put a laser cannon on her head. Oh and bees. Bees must be coming out of her mouth.

Now see THAT would be manly!

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated

Well, it all falls on the bees really. I mean, are they wasps? Because those things are SOOO gay...

Lula topped out around 25-27 lbs depending on the time of day that you weigh her at. Definately not a bad size dog at all. Still small enough to be a lap dog, but not so small that it looks like one of those dogs your girlfriend could carry around in a purse. Large enough so that you can play rough with them and not feel like you are going to break them.

The size was seriously our largest concern. Living in apartments there are often weight limits on dogs, and we were concerned that she would get to be too large since we really didn't know much about her parents. (They were bigger than her, but not huge as well.) However, with where she ended up we can normally sneak in under the common 25lbs weight limit.

Anyways, how is she doing today?

I have a feeling Meatball won't get too much bigger than she is. Like with your dog, I feel my pup is just around the right size.

She's fine today, I suppose. She's usually really hyper post poop and post breakfast, but she's just been moping around rearranger her toys across the yard.

My Lab had mange about three years ago. We caught it early because although he was always biting and licking at his legs, he hadn't developed sores or had any hair loss. He had the chemical dips, and he was pretty lethargic after them as well. The good news is, after the dips the mange went away, and he's never had a problem with it since then. Good luck to Meatball!

Okay. What the hell dude.

That post would have been alright until Naked Shuriken posted his story. Posting that is just cruel.

Ok, now I feel the need to explain myself. To be honest I didn't read Naked Shurikens post before I posted the pic, and I really didn't mean to be cruel. But I guess it could be seen as being just that, in which case I'd like to apologize.
