My Little Pony FiM Community [OT3] Surely You Saw This Coming

Another limited MLP cafe in Japan. The person who sent this to ED claimed that the MLP Japan twitter account announced that 52 episodes of the show are heading to Japan, but as ED notes, this doesn't appear to be in any of their recent posts. It may even be that the sender mistook the general statement that 52 episodes of the show has been dubbed for a statement that 52 more will be dubbed.

However, it is worth noting that the toy distribution in Japan is apparently no longer being handled by Bushiroad, but by Sega Toys. The fact that a new company got the license and that the first two Equestria Girls movies were dubbed does seem to lend credence to the idea of the show getting dubbed again. If 52 really are being dubbed, then I wonder if they're skipping season 3. The EG movie dubs show that they don't care about spoiling it, and they may want to get to Princess Twilight (and "Princess Twilight Sparkle") right away.

Pretty good cover of "On Our Way", the one released song from the canceled fan movie "Journey of the Spark". If you didn't know, it was announced back in 2012, between seasons 2 and 3, and set to be released in 2015. The plot was that (unicorn) Twilight does something that allows Canterlot to be wrecked, making Celestia actually angry at her, and she becomes so upset that she runs away. Meanwhile, Discord and Chrysalis team up and take over Canterlot, and the other main six have to go on a journey to bring back Twilight. You can probably see why the long production schedule turned out to be a huge problem, though apparently issues behind the scenes were what led to the project's end. While I never thought the story was going to be any good, it was still a shame to see that effort go down the drain.

Speaking of effort, another foreign magazine comic! We have a summary instead of a direct translation, unfortunately, but it's still pretty messed up of Rarity to give Luna that costume, especially since it doesn't even look right.

It's fine to post news like that here.

There was previously some ambiguity to the story that made me hesitant about posting it, but ED's update has clarified that the coffin maker is not part of the fandom and fashioned it for the family based on the victim's interests. That removes all of the potential creepiness from the coffin maker.

Got to see Friendship Games this morning in a practically empty cinema.

It was alright, I guess? "Unleash the Magic" is a really good song, I think Human!Twilight gives it a different dynamic so it doesn't feel just like a retread of the first film, and Sugarcoat is hilarious... but it didn't really get going on a plot level, there's waaaay too much exposition, and it played the premise too straight to make any jokes about that.

Equestria Girls is fine to talk about in the OT thread now. Anyway, I largely agree with what you said, though I didn't find any of the new Shadowbolts to be particularly interesting.

In other news, the fan card game Twilight Sparkle's Secret Ship Fic Folder is shutting down. Not for legal reasons, but because the group no longer wants to work on it. It's a shame, because it had a lot of fun cards, in terms of name-art-flavortext combinations, though I actually preferred the sketchy early art before it was colored in. Cards here, awkwardly divided into PDFs. All of it is SFW, besides the pony thing.

I'm staying out of that thread until I get caught up on episodes, but duly noted.

EDIT: I guess all the stuff that's closing down is another sign of where the fandom's at these days.

Yay, Rarijack! I can't get enough of that art style. Also it's just cute, obviously.

Pity about TSSSFF, it always looked like goofy fun. Still, the actual game itself isn't going anywhere, so that's good.

Pretty Princess art:

Prologue of Ambient, an interesting looking game. Well, the gameplay looks good, but I'm not too keen on the story or voice acting, especially the constant spellcasting. The main characters aren't actually Celestia and Luna, oddly enough.

Also, apparently, the Brony Thank You Fund--which, if you recall, years ago collected money to air commercials thanking the crew of the show, but the cringe was real, and they decided to change the commercials to advertise a charity--had set up a scholarship at CalArts, and we have our first recipient! It's called the Derpy Hooves Scholarship (cringe) in Character Animation, and the recipient drew Derpy art to give thanks.

EDIT:
Prequel to this.

I had previously skipped over Jean-Claude Van Damme Meets My Little Pony, thinking it would be one of those dumb "X Meets My Little Pony" videos with the bad jokes and such, but it turns out the actor had uploaded a bunch of videos of himself in front of a green screen, and this uses those to great effect. It's quite funny, and the editing is good too.

Also, I haven't actually played it yet, but a new Derpy platformer, Mystery of the Apple Thief came out, and it may be fun.

Months late to this, but I finally played that Derpy game. It's a decently fun and short platformer (four worlds, three levels each and a boss fight). I liked being able to chain stomp attacks, but I didn't actually like the envelope attack you get as a reward for doing so. Also, wow, even just eight months ago, I see a lot of posters who don't come to these threads anymore. Granted, two of them were banned.

Also, pony references in Fallout 4. There's also apparently a terminal where the password is "Applejack". I'm surprised that there aren't any direct references to Fallout Equestria at this point, really.

Looks pretty, but agreed on the voices and story. I doubt it'll ever move far beyond the tech demo phase, but at least it's a pretty tech demo.

We do tend to have kinda patchy attendance here. I guess a lot of viewers are more casual these days.

Whoa! My 4DE Fluttershy and Twilight plushies finally shipped. I had completely forgotten about them, cause I placed the order last year. I don't really watch the show anymore. But still, good memories. The Twilight one especially makes me reminisce about a friend who isn't around anymore. So hey, a nice holiday surprise!

If you ordered some too, be on the lookout for em.

For the first post-season-finale post in this thread, here's some dumb video adding songs to episodes 1-2 of season 1, such as having Applejack sing "Let It Go" during the scene where she tells Twilight to let go.

Sequel for episodes 3-4, still dumb.

Another ponification of a Vocaloid music video - Phantom Thief F's Scenario: Mystery of the Missing Diamond.

And a really nice Rainbow Power Twilight figurine, though it looks incredibly brittle.

I'll start the episode guide thing tomorrow.

OK, it's time for us to start making a recommended episode guide. Given that the show is now at 117 episodes, it's a bit much to expect every potential new viewer to watch every episode, and many people are uncomfortable just starting from the latest season of even episodic shows, so this episode guide will attempt to give that viewer the highlights of the show. The guide will provide two levels of recommendations: episodes that people simply think are worth watching (recommended), and the episodes that are the bare minimum for watching the show (necessary), with the starting assumption that the two-parters are all necessary (otherwise, nothing is really "necessary").

That said, the guide will also have a message saying that every episode has something to enjoy about it, even less-liked episodes like "The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well" and "Spike At Your Service".

I'll choose the necessary episodes ahead of time, but we'll all create our own lists of recommended episodes and I'll try to make something out of it in the end. Since one goal is to have something to do during the break, we'll choose episodes from only one season each week. My hope is to cut the total list of episodes worth watching down to less than 50 episodes, but we'll see when we get there.

I plan on going backwards through the seasons because season 5 will be fresher in our memories, and it will be easier to determine what episodes should be included from earlier seasons because they are needed to understand episodes chosen from later seasons. For example, if we were to include "The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone" in the season 5 list, then we would need to include "Griffon the Brush-Off" from season 1. However, I don't think things like the Flim & Flam timeline in "The Cutie Re-Mark" would necessitate including one of their episodes, for instance, and "The One Where Pinkie Knows" probably isn't a necessary episode, because it's not like we'd need to know that Cadance was pregnant for the potential future episode where she gives birth to make sense.

Use your own metrics to determine what episodes are worth recommending. We'll figure it out later.

Anyway, my list, posting every episode for easy copying. An underline means it's a necessary episode, and bold means it's part of my recommended episode list.

1. "The Cutie Map - Part 1"
2. "The Cutie Map - Part 2"

3. "Castle Sweet Castle"
4. "Bloom & Gloom"
5. "Tanks for the Memories"
6. "Appleoosa's Most Wanted"
7. "Make New Friends but Keep Discord"
8. "The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone"
9. "Slice of Life"* - I think this would be listed with an asterisk, since I'm not sure how much someone just watching highlights would appreciate this.
10. "Princess Spike"
11. "Party Pooped"
12. "Amending Fences"
13. "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?"
14. "Canterlot Boutique"
15. "Scare Master"
16. "Rarity Investigates!"
17. "Made in Manehattan"
18. "Brotherhooves Social"
19. "Crusaders of the Lost Mark"
20. "The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows"
21. "Hearthbreakers"
22. "What About Discord?"
23. "The Hooffields and McColts"
24. "The Mane Attraction"
25. "The Cutie Re-Mark - Part 1"
26. "The Cutie Re-Mark - Part 2"

25. "The Cutie Re-Mark - Part 1"
26. "The Cutie Re-Mark - Part 2"

I tried to limit myself to 8 recommended episodes outside of the "mandatory" ones, which made things kinda tricky. There's definitely episodes there I'd liked to have included, which I guess is a testament to how strong this season was.

You guys must have impressive memories to be able to create this list. I usually forget most things about an episode the following day (I can barely remember the finale even though I just saw it yesterday). :(

To be fair, I did look at my comments for each episode to refresh my memory. There are handy links in the opening post to when discussion of each episode starts.

I'm usually terrible with lists, but I can at least remember which episodes I felt good about and which ones didn't make much of an impression. At least with the most recent season, anyway.

I um...have watched every episode multiple times and love this show to death. Probably shouldn't admit that
