but PPG is actually a good show with a right balance of cutesy, action, and humor so everyone can watch it without feeling the least bit guiltyRegulus Tera said:You can bet GAF would have hated on PPG too if it were around at the time. Case in point: just look at the Madoka OT and all the posts expressing incredulity or outright disgust in the first pages (though admittedly that's sort of the point with that show).
FlightOfHeaven said:-sigh-
Really fellows? We have people who troll "My Little Pony" viewers, with all the other weird, unusual, funny, strange, quirky, and embarrassingly nerdy stuff we have on GAF?
Let 'em be. If some people like this show, let them watch it. They aren't disturbing you nor I.
I am also surprised at the pedigree this show has. A pedigree which, in turn, makes it unsurprising that it'd have some sort of adult fanbase. Or is everyone going to tell me they hated the Powerpuff Girls, too, as it'd make them pedophiliacs by association? I enjoyed watching the PPG until late in my teens, and I'm no pedo.
Jenga said:but PPG is actually a good show with a right balance of cutesy, action, and humor so everyone can watch it without feeling the least bit guilty
it also doesn't have a furry fanbase
it's easy to hate on media when it and the fanbase sucksRegulus Tera said:If I focused on hating on media because of their fanbases I would never like anything ever.

Heh, I'm actually not a native english speaker, as many people might have noticed if they read my text carefully (I had to edit it several times because I kept detecting small mistakes). "Exímio" is not that uncommon a word in portuguese, so I just translated it directly and ended up seeming pretentious. Not out of place, knowing we're talking about Rarity.limlark said:I considered myself an educated person until a MLP thread started teaching me new words.

It seems to be akin to human races, but a little more pronounced. Different kinds of ponies originated in different geographic areas, but they miscigenated as they travelled around. The capital of Canterlot is mainly inhabited by unicorns, Ponyville was founded by earth ponies, and Cloudsdale, obviously, is mainly home to pegasi.Cloudy said:Why are some of them unicorns and some just ponies?
Yeah, most of the time it's mainly pony sitcom, with some "epic-er" episodes thrown in once in a while for good measure. It still works wonderfully, though, because the characters are so enjoyable. And you don't need to have an eeeeeevil antagonist to have conflict - especially when the character's fears, flaws, limitations and differences are so well defined. It is possible that, as the dust settles and we run into season 2, we will see a larger quota of adventuring around, but I'm still okay with it as it is.KibblesBits said:Seems like all the conflict is DONE in the first two episodes. MLP from the 80s had epic battles all the time IIRC.

I'm really curious now about its popularity. There's either subliminal messages in the show or this is just some phenomenon of people wanting to be a part of the ingroup. Psychological papers could be written on this shit.Suairyu said:I binged last night. I'm now on episode 6. I'm even tempted to start making GIFs. same persecution complex too. only with a million crappy macros
It's smartly written, funny and fully of happiness sugar. It's a cartoon! Who doesn't love cartoons? Republicans, that's who.Mechanical Snowman said:I'm really curious now about its popularity. I mean, it's good and cute but wow.
What player would you recommend? I find to my disappointment that MPEG Streamclip does not like youtube videos.By the way, the best way to make .gifs is to use Photoshop CS3 or above and a player that can sift frame by frame and save out images to a directory.
I saw a mudcrab the other day, dreadful creatures. Then I compared them to people who watch MLP and it all made sense.DeadRockstar said:Anecdote: I was at the supermarket today and saw a must be 60 year old grey haired man dressed in the clothes of a twenty-something woman. 3/4 length belted cardigan, skinny jeans and knee length leather boots.
I don't think anyone else uses this method, but I use BS player. It's a light program with a bit of a crap GUI but you can skip back and forth over frames and press a key to export the frame as JPEG, then compile them into an animation with Adobe Bridge and Photoshop.Suairyu said:What player would you recommend? Maybe you should have stopped posting after the initial trolling attempts, when you seemed serious and before you stepped over the line into obsessive.
Now you just seem like a guy whose family was killed and dog was raped by ponies and think everyone who likes this show would do the same if they had the chance.
But meh, some peple like watching this in their spare time, some people like doing more productive stuff and some people (you) like trolling internet message boards in their spare time. I don't get it but whatever floats your boat I guess.

Yes! I've noticed the show has all kinds of crazy references like that; stuff that kids and even some adults would never even pick up on.Myke Greywolf said:Yeah, I loved that episode too (1.14 - Suited for Success). Rarity's song was fabulous, and someone pointed out that it's an homage to "Putting it Together", a musical number by Stephen Sondheim (see it here).
Apart from that, I'd be willing to bet that any web designer would be able to identify with Rarity's situation, and it's probably the best episode to break in creative types.
Nostalgia is what got me to give it a chance and start watching. The fact that the show is actually good; and goes beyond the call of duty for a 'kid's cartoon' is what keeps me coming back week after week.Mechanical Snowman said:I'm really curious now about its popularity. The whole Derpy Hooves thing is a little fanwanky; but it's kind of funny. I love the response of her being an actual background character in the show now. Fun to spot her; sort of like how in some cartoons (Blues Clues, Dora, Adventure Time) there is a little bug or something that pops up in the background in episodes as sort of a hidden character on the show.Myke Greywolf said:
