My PSP is weaksauce...

That's right, my PSP went on it's first vacation and was tested. I took it to Vegas for a week, it was running fine on the plane, it was in the hotel room all week, I never used it. On the final day, I left it in my pocket as I walked up the strip for all of 30 minutes. Later that night when I turned it on at the airport, I see that it developed about 25 dead pixels in the same location. From about 2 feet it looks like a coffee stain in the screen, but up close you can see the individual pixels. I live in a place where it's not only hot, but also 10x more humid than Vegas. I never bashed anything against my pocket so they didn't get there from shock. Oh well, this time I get to be the person on GAF who got the short end of the stick, I guess it was my turn since I have a Thomson xbox that's running strong and my launch PS2 never had any issues.

So I guess it's the price of having better a screen. The PSP screen just doesn't tolerate temperatures as well as DS screens.

Well the good news it the PSP is still under warrenty, and 25 dead pixels is excessive. Call Sony and they should exchange it for you.

It could be worse than even that. Mine hasn't been really used in months, so it might not be working at all! ;p

If it's that bad then Sony will take care of it for you. They should, at least.

in my experience, sony will happily send you someone elses broken psp. sure, you can send it back again, but theyll pull the same stunt until you decide the one you have isnt that fucked up...

My PSP is still a virtual Christ in a box.

My DS is steadily improving but still is sub-par. Ask me again, after the holiday boom of new games.

My biggest fear is having to replace my PSP with one that comes with 1.52 firmware. It almost makes my 2 year extended warranty useless

Why are you complaining? It seems you should be able to purchase several PSP's.

That really does suck.

I haven't fared well lately, either.

1) I had two hard drives fail completely last year.
2) I had three RIO Karmas have HDD failures in 7 months of owning them.
3) Finally convinced Best Buy to let me switch out the model for a 40GB iPod
4) Whose hard drive failed in 3 months. Which I then replaced after a month-long dispute with Best Buy who sent it back from the service center with styrofoam trapped under the screen.
5) My last two cell phones have both been pretty high-end LG models. In December, I walked away from my color flip phone for thirty minutes, returned, and noticed that the outer screen had been completely destroyed from a pressure fracture on the LCD.
5.1) So I pulled my 2-year get a new phone contract renewal a month early and got a new slick camera phone. At a restaurant three months later, I pulled it out of my pocket to check the time, put it back in my pocket, checked a few minutes later, and the LCD had again been completely ruined.
6) In January, my launch PS2 completely died on me, so I traded it in for $75 to EB and got a slim PStwo by paying the difference.
7) Also had a 2 year old Canon Elph fail, which I Best Buyed out for a new Powershot S70 (great model, if anyone cares)

So far my PSP and DS work fine (along with my iBook), but after this last year, I really just don't trust any piece of technology--no matter how well I take care of it.

I share this with you so that you can feel like, "well, at least I don't have it as bad as that one guy."

Is this true? I'm thinking about sending mine back in. There's this weird piece of cardboard or something behind the screen just off center and it has probably seven or eight dead pixels. Since I'm not playing it right now, i thought I'd send it in, but if I'm just going to get another bad unit why bother? Has anyone here sent their PSP back to Sony for a replacement?

I dropped my PSP a couple of time on the wooden floor of my apartment, routinely throw my UMD together with a camera, coins and key in my bag, and haven't had any problems. The PSP is far durable than many people make it out to be. Sorry about your PSP, though.

Damn juice, that's alot of bad luck. For those mentioning the trip, I never mentioned gambling nor how much I payed for the trip (or if I paid for it at all). I'm not saying that all PSP's are created equal either, as many remember at launch how much hype there was over dead pixels and broken nubs.

So, you sold your old one so you could get a 1.50, then you never used it? :D

Pretty much, yeah. I'm waiting for the emu scene to get solid. I don't want to start an epic RPG with one emu, then realize that it's working much better 2 weeks later, and worse, isn't compatible with older save states. And, the big game I'm currently wanting to hit up, has to wait until I finish its predecessor on the NES (which I'm currently playing on my GBA Flashcard.

So, yeah, I take the PSP and WO Pure out once a month to get the newest downloadable content, try it out for 5 minutes, then put it all aside. Although, to be honest, I did play PSP Angband for like a week straight, but I've put that aside too in lieu of finishing up that NES RPG I'm playing through. (Almost done.)

i can not speak for the gaming return department but thier customer service for thier digital cameras is THE WORST i have ever encountered.

it took over 1 YEAR for me to get my camera fixed.

i sent it back in over and over again, ended up having to pay over 100 bucks even though it was under warrenty and after each time i sent it in and it was returned the 1st problem would be fixed only to have 2-3 new problems appear that were not there before.

after that long year they finally sent me a new one in the box that has been working for about 6 months and is now starting to show strange errors and unreadable files already.

DO NOT BUY SONY Digitals!!!

my brother bought a new psp at toys r us that ended up having a sticky, unresponsive button as well as a handful of dead pixels. sony replaced it with a refurbished psp with a good 20+ dead pixels and an air bubble around the middle of the screen. he sent that one back and currently has a refurbished one with about 8 dead pixels and has mentioned the system often freezing (though i guess that could just be untold legends? its the only game he has). i think i remember at least one time that he couldnt turn the system off during a freeze. hes had his newest one for about 2 months and had decided at the time that it might not be worth it to send it in again, but the freezing is making him rethink that decision.

I have now had two UMDs "die"

In both instances, what had actually happened was that the UMD perspex had been forced down in one corner by my shitty packing habits. In both cases, simply pushing up from underneath pooped the perspex back into place and then everything was fine.
