My Roommate is a maniac

I moved into this house about 6 months ago cause the rent is cheap, the room is nice, and its a good area, but the guy who I rent from is the most obnoxious person I've ever lived with. Thankfully its been a short term arrangement, and I will be leaving next month.

I mean it just seems like he's trying to keep shit clean and organized. God knows my roommates could use some of that.

You don't clear the remaining time on the microwave? Scum!

Good to hear you don't have to stay there long... sounds like a nightmare.

I assume you didn't click on the photo in the spoiler tags... it doesn't appear to have anything to do with organization.

those shelves must be very fragile

please take out the spoiler.. thanks

maybe you need to trade with the other guy who has the peeing on toilet guy

my dad always gets annoyed when i dont cancel the remaining time on the mw.... yeah it always seemed so dumb and now I sitll find myself thinking about it all the time after using it

Clearing the time off the microwave doesn't seem too bad for you?

That's insane

Cleaning the oven after every time you use it is also nutty.

I mean its definitely OCD, but nah, not a big deal to me. And I just assumed he meant if you cook in the oven the food spills or dirties it up, clean up whatever mess you made. Which doesn't seem too bad as well. Unless he means like a deep fucking clean every single time no matter what, then yeah, thats too much.

He better let you soak your dishes in the sink. No one should have to wash their dirty plates right away.

Really? Once I am done eating and what not, I clean my dishes right away. Why build up a huge mess of dishes to do later? (unless using a dish washer).

You don't clean your oven after you've made a mess or reset your microwave cook time? lol ok

It doesn't say after you've made a mess, it says after each use. Ovens do not need to be cleaned after each use.

And whether you clear the timer or not, it isn't something worth raising as an issue. Co-habitation already leads to plenty of legitimate issues, there is no time for petty bullshit

On the flip side, I would be rather annoyed that he wants the counters covered in crap that should be in the perfectly good and empty pantry

why is it a must to reset it, like is it a giant need to see the time on the microwave? obviously either way is fine but if a person doesnt do it then oh well. go and do it if you need it that bad.

Theory: OP's roommate is a surgeon performing life or death surgeries in the kitchen. The microwave clock is the only source of time, so how can he call an accurate time of death should his patient die on the stove top operating table?

He didn't say "if you make a mess", he said "every time you use it." Not resetting the microwave cook time? How is that an inconvenience to anyone?

It's sometimes annoying when you look at the timer expecting the time instead. That's all I can think of. If there is 1:23 left on the timer and it's 1:15 I guess it could be confusing?

Resetting the time is a simple courtesy that takes a second. Cleaning the oven takes no time at all either. This is not complicated.

That empty pantry/closet is hilarious though.

He would most definitely have an issue with that, but I don't think that's unreasonable. I hate when dishes pile up and washing them after you use them is a minor hassle and keeps things clean.

Do you know what a phenomenal waste of energy it would be to clean the oven after every use, if you used the self clean cycle as you suggest? Do you even know what the self clean cycle does? It heats the oven up to temperatures well above what they were designed to accommodate (well over 700-800 degrees). Using it at all is dumb due to the wear it puts on the appliances. Using it after every usage of the oven (literally daily for many people that cook) is absolutely insane.

If you ever experiencing grease build up on your oven it's best to clean it by hand every few months with some baking soda, vinegar, and a rag. And that's not easy or something that should be done after every usage. There isn't a point to a cleaning that frequent unless you had a large spill in the oven.
