My suitable GAF email is Expiring. What are my options?

I registered on GAF as per the rules with a "paid" non free email address. Well... I've just been informed my college email address which I used to register with is set to expire at the months end and currently I don't really have a backup email address that's suitable.

I do have a comcast email if push comes to shove, but it's technically my folks and I don't want to muck up their email.

So GAF what are my options?
 
The mods did a thing a while back where they let us change a bunch of our e-mails to free ones due to this very issue. PM a mod and they'll help you out.
 
Do you even need one? The email I signed up for Gaf with has been extinct for years.

Higher education is dumb.
 
Slightly related. I have a friend who signed up but lost access to his paid email before his account was activated. Trying to get back in of course but is it possible for him to just change the email? Would the activation email get resent to the new account?
 
Oh shit, I just realized that the email I signed up with expired (college email). Thanks for the reminder, OP.
 
The only reason I went to college for a semester was to sign up for Gaf.
 
That's how we keep the riff-raff out. If you want to remain a member here maybe you should find a credible e-mail.

This is pretty moronic because a lot of isps and such just give you a generic gmail account or don't even bother giving you one anymore.


So basically unless you are either in school or work for the goverment, your options nowadays on securing a "private" email are pretty small.
 
Get your own domain name via Google Apps. 50 bucks a year and you never have this problem again. Bonus points, you get an actual professional email that looks much better in formal communication such as applying for jobs.

Aren't you able to change your email yourself as long as you have access to your original one to confirm the email change? I don't think you need an admin for that unless you lost access to the original email account. So if yours is about to expire and still have access to it you can do it yourself I think.

No it told me the public address I tried to enter was a violation of the terms of service or such.
 
I had a defunct telus.net email for most of my GAF career. I think it's been dead since 2006? But I changed it to a valid one earlier this year.

The benefit is that PMs show up as push email notifications on my phone now.

On my first sign up attempt I used my personal email - first@last.tld - and it was rejected.
 
I should probably do this. I lost my first account years ago because of this very reason.

Had to change password, Confirmation sent to email I no longer had access to, account lost.
:(
 
Great timing on this thread. My ISP is shutting down in a couple months, and they already closed the email service.

So I can have the email changed to my free address both before and after the transition to my new provider, even if the new provider doesn't have an email service?

Didn't even know this was a thing! Will keep it in mind if my uni email ever expires or my work email.
 
I've never understood the point of having to have a 'private email add' for a GAF account.

More often than not nowadays you don't get a private email through your ISP etc. What do you do then?
 
So you're allowed to change to a regular email once you're approved? My mail that I signed up for has been gone for like 8 years now.
 
I signed up with an old Netzero email, I've had to keep reactivating the email because I never use it except for GAF password resets. Good to know I can update it to my current email.
 
I kinda cheated when I first registered for GAF. Back then anybody could get a netzero.net address without signing up for their shitty dial-up, and GAF accepted it as an ISP address. So that's how I signed up. Since then, NetZero has transitioned to a mobile company and GAF no longer accepts them as a valid registration e-mail, but that's fine since I've had an ISP-provided e-mail address for years now, and changed my GAF e-mail to it a long while back.

But yeah, there was a period of time around 2009-2010 where you could "cheat" your way into GAF. Not anymore, though.

that's hilarious because my Netzero.net email is actually from when I had their shitty dial-up service. lol
 
I euh.. paid for a domain name for 1 year. And made an e mail adress with it..

So that's an option.

I know..
