How the hell can these people not know anything?
I'm trying to password protect a directory via a .htaccess file and a .htpasswd file
I can get these to work just fine with my own personal website by having the .htaccess file look for the AuthUserFile in /home/mysite/.htpasswd/thedirectory/.htaccess"
With our company site however, I can't get this to work at all. I've narrowed it down to not knowing how they'be got the root set up (or the /home/mysite part, to be precise). I've got all my folders set up exactly the same as with my personal site, but it's a no-go. Nothing I've tried works.
I know the .htaccess file is working fine, because it will prompt me for the username and password with the correct realm that I've specified. It's just looking for the password in the wrong area, so no matter what I try it never lets me in.
These guys at our webhost though are retarded. I've talked the three people there, all of them dealing with the server, and none of them have ever even heard of a .htaccess file. Never heard of it! How can you be in business as a webhost and have never heard of such a thing?! The worst part is, there were already .htaccess files in my directory before I tried getting this working. I know I certainly didn't put the fucking things there.
I can't stand these stupid people.
