Mine officially broke! This is my second to break and I don't have Costco's kick ass return policy this time around. I just got the system at the end of April too :lol

Edit: Just got off the phone with customer support, I got an American person and the whole call took 7 minutes and 21 seconds including the automated voice thing in the beginning.

Mine died this morning as well. I had the same experience as you did, was really surprised to not here an Indian. when I told the guy I had the 3 red lights he said something like "wow". They must have been getting alot this holiday with the increased play time of games. This is only anecdotal but everyone I know with a 360 for more than a year has had problems with it. The failure rate has to be more than 50%. Will I be getting a different system back??? That would really suck. Me and my girlfriend have been playing Carcassone every night and from what I understand she won't be able to play with me if I get a different system. fucking DRM!!!!!! Oh well, time to finish Phantom Hourglass and Okami.

Surprisingly out of 11 or so close friends I have with Xbox 360s, only myself and another have had issues. Several of them got their Xbox 360s at launch as well and at the same damn store/time as mine :lol

Only if you're not online. Plus, if you badger them enough they'll sort it out.

Last few months my 360 has been freezing on me a bunch and doing weird things, about a month ago it starting RRODing on me. Sent it in and finally got a 360 back today (little later than normal due to FedEx issues). It was a replacement unit so I guess my old one is trashed.

Manufactured date: 9-26-2006 :/ wish it was later date

edit: trying to get the system to work now...it turns on but the button the the 360 to sync up with a wireless controller isn't working. (I pressed it tons of different ways lol and the 360 ring does nothing and controller is trying to connect) is this one busted too? or the button on 360 just fucked up?

edit2: fixed it...i needed to take off my face plate and push it with a pen since its not lining up with faceplate button i guess.

I thought that only the account that bought the game will be able to play the game if you switch consoles??

Let me join the club:

I had my 360 for about five months and it died right before christmas. It started to freezed (alot) right after the latest update. It would freeze faster and faster after boot until it finally gave in.

Question: Has anyone recieved a falcon from MS when they sent in a regular Pro? And if so, did it work correctly with all the old cables, connections, etc. (stuff I did not send to MS)

It's chart update time! Will post this disclaimer from my last post:

These numbers wont match up to the list post simply because unless I could tell when your 360 died, you weren't included in the figures. That's basically anyone that just posted to say that their 360 died last year some time or they've had x dead 360s and gave no more information. Also, if you posted to say your 360 was acting up and never came back to confirm its death / shipment / getting a new one... you aren't included either.

Don't forget that NPD US numbers are simply included to give a rough idea of how many 360s are out there for each particular month.

NeoGAF_360_Dec_07.png

Problems still mainly lie with launch models and refurbs screwing up. Not surprising to see a bit of a bump in December from the downward trend simply because more people with time to play probably means more dead 360s.

Well my 4th 360 is going down the tubes. A few months ago the DVD drive started making a vibrating sound and started to scratch my game discs so I called support and I am getting a new one. Something new they told me this time is to send in the power supply too weird. Any one else even have to send in their power supply?

Here is the sound its making: http://www.mediafire.com/?5nbunnmtmtf

Sounds normal. Wait... the last part.

What kind of drive is it by any chance? Hitachi or Samsung?

Could be the metal ring that keeps the DVD disk in place fell out, too, due to the disturbances in the magnetic forces. Just curious which model it is.

No. You will not obtain a console with a HDMI port.

Oh, on top of my chart above I went through the thread looking at how many falcons / arcades / machines with 175w powersupplies have bit the dust. (because people keep asking if they seem to have made a difference.)

Out of adamsappel's list of 1267 dead consoles, 3 are falcons. All three of those were drive failures and all posted by a single poster... so I assume there was a bad batch of drives in the store he went to.

Cheech said:
I didn't want to have MS flag me as a troublemaker and refuse future fixes.

what the hell are you talking about? i've never heard of msft refusing to fix a 360 that was under warranty just because someone has had multiple problems.

Falcon's wont die so easily, they fixed the issues with the X Clamps, so RROD on Falcons are nearly non existent, IF ANY.

Cheech should have nothing to worry about. Setting up a followup repair to address a "dead on arrival" console should be explored in any circumstance.

The only instance where a repair for an "in-warranty" console will be refused is if an individual has sent in multiple consoles at the same time for refurbishment for the purpose of acting as an unlicensed reseller.

As for Cheech's secondary console, he shouldn't have any concerns there as his last repair has been successfully completed. Hence there will be nothing "simultaneous" about setting up a repair for a different console at this time.

My Falcon unit Red Ringed on me this morning, which didn't surprise me as the first time I set it all up it red ringed. Moved the console to another wall outlet, plugged it into a surge protector and its all working fine now. Not sure if its due to the wall outlet or the power strip I was using.... either way think I'll be getting a second surge strip today.

My last 360 had a dodgy PSU as well, it started causing the console to red ring at least once a week until it finally kicked the bucket. Replaced it for a brand new one at my GAME store and its been like a rock since then. Was hoping these new PSUs might be a little more solid, looks like they are still just as susceptible to power issues.

Follow up from my original post, I went out and bought a surge protector and I've been happily Mass Effecting for the past few days. This morning I turn on my 360 and bam, 3 red lights start flashing at me.

"Oh crap", I thought, "What's going on this time"

To my suprise the 360 startup noise started playing through my TV and the dashboard pops up. Meanwhile the 360 is still flashing red lights at me. Anyway, I restarted, red lights went away, been streaming some 1080p VC1 stuff to the 360 all morning.

What the fudge? Anyone had this before?

I've seen it happen after there's been a power brownout... which there have been a few of near me lately. Could be something like that.

Ok, count me in. Mine died last weekend after about year and a half of flawless functioning, I send it out this week. I hope to get it back within the month.

Yeah, I think its definitely power-related. I'm not sure if its my power brick or the wiring in my house, part of me leans towards the latter, my last 360 had its power brick go tits up after 9 months.

Hate to be the one to burst ur all knowing bubble but...

Right before Xmas my launch 360 took a shit.
I just got it back in the mail yesterday.

Now here comes the revolutionary news!!!!

It has an HDMI por and. ( hold onto ur britches) the manufacture date is. 12/2007.

I know its not a falcon or they would have had me send in my power supply for a new one.
seems to have the hitachi drive yet is quieter then my old.

One strange thing is when I turn it on it does not auto connect to live like my old. I have to manually so then get a delay that I've never seen before as I wait.

So is the 1st record of a return coming back with HDMI and possibly being brand new??? With that manufaturing date I don't see how it can't be new.

Thanks for the update. I'll call it in next week when I get a chance.

The genesis of my fear was actually your post a few pages back where you mentioned that "people who buy a bunch of broken consoles on eBay and send them all in might not like the result". So I was just going to wait a month to send my secondary/Samsung console in.

It DOES technically work, so I wasn't in a hurry anyway. The DREs are intermittant, but have gotten worse over time.

The one I just got back from repair a couple weeks ago was dated 12/11/07, and had no HDMI port. What is the exact date on yours?

Ok, so i just send in my 360 because it scratches discs. (several small scratches on several games)
What can i expect drom the repaircentre?
- same 360 with new dvd-drive?
- new 360?
- same 360, same dvd-drive but now with "rubbers" on it to prevent discs from scratching?

Strange yours does not. Am I mistaking an xtra slot as HDMI?

Its possible, based on what B-Rad Lascelle and others have said, you're not really supposed to get an HDMI unit if the unit sent in was not an HDMI unit.

Did you have the latest firmware update on your old 360? Since the Fall 07 dash update there is usually a pause after logging into live (egg timer middle of screen, little circles around it)

Have you enabled auto log-in to live on the 360?

Welp, my Pro lasted a month and a few days before it RRoD'd. Twenty five hours into Mass Effect, too. :lol The receipt would still be good, but Best Buy doesn't have any in stock right now and who knows when they'll get more. Hmm, what to do...

Edit: Seems OK now. May have just been a power outage earlier. Cautiously optimistic.

I thought I had the most recent. But its doing what you described so I'll assume that's normal?

can someone post the back of their system so I can compare slots?

If it had HDMI you'd know it. It actually has "HDMI" etched into the plastic.

Are you maybe mistaking the USB port located above the network cable port for HDMI?

oh no, there's a USB on the back too? how the heck did i never notice a USB port on the back of my old one?

(kicks ground and goes back inside to play alone)

well damn, i was just so excited to have it back, was going through withdraw. i had no idea how addicted to games i was till this happened. yeah, if there is a USB port on the back by the network cable then i just made the stupidest mistaken port identification EVER...

:(

excuse me Gaf for getting anyones hopes up...

It happened to me after a blackout, it RROD'd, then I turned it off, and on again.. system booted but the LEDs were flashing the RROD.

It locked up shortlythereafter and the RROD persisted...

My 360 died in November sometime. Unfortunately, I was having dust problems with my system in the days when my warranty was up, so I cracked the case, and cleaned my system out, in effect voiding my warranty when

I recently did the xclamp fix, now my console works fine (though the fan seems oddly louder than it used to, might just be because I've been playing my Wii when I had nothing to play). I no longer fear the 3 red lights of death!

Doh. I just got my Xbox back after drive problems and it started freezing today. It three red ringed while I was on the phone with support.

This will be my third coffin on two consoles.

My console started freezing during gameplay, DVD playback... you name it. Then it started red-ringing. It would come back if you disconnected it from the PS for about an hour, but it would freeze up and red-ring again after a few minutes of operation. Eventually it stopped working altogether.

Made a warranty claim through xbox.com; MS sent me a coffin through UPS. Took about 5 days. Packed it up, sent it back. Got my replacement unit back yesterday afternoon. It was a brand-new unit, manf. date is 12/27/07. MS also included a month of XBL to make up for the downtime.

Whole process including ship time took around 2 weeks. Not bad at all, really, when you consider it took around 3 days for the coffin to get here and back to MS, and another 3 days for the replacement.

The serial number and manufacter date on the console I got back are exactly the same as what I sent off. However I now have video so I guess thats good. I don't have to worry about my downloaded DRM content now also :). Tried my XBLA games and everything signed out and they work perfectly.

My third 360 just bit the dust. Three red lights.

I am hearing that the turnaround times are really crappy to get a replacement. Is this the case?

mine died on the 15t or 16th, i used the online form that weekend

box shipped on the 17th (monday)

got the box on the 21st (friday)

sent it in on the 28th (friday) [i was busy/lazy during xmas]

it arrived in mcallen, tx on the 4th (friday)

got a tracking number on the 5th (saturday)

the replacement shipped out on the 7th (monday)

and arrived on the 11th (friday)

so i'd say other than the week i wasted sending it in, it was a pretty fast turnaround

Just playing VT3 my 360 red ringed...turned it off/on did it again.

Fuck Microsoft i'm done with this shotty piece of shit system. 4th one outgoing

PS3 future here we come.

I have a question. My first 360 rrod' a while ago (i believe i even posted in this thread) but i had an extended warranty with futureshop so I had it replaced no problem. Well now my 2nd xbox keeps on giving disk read errors. I would say I'm averaging 1 disk read error for every 4 hours of gaming which can be annoying if I haven't had a save point for a while or forgotten. So have they changed the dvd drives in those new falcon 65mm xbox's and if so, if I go to futureshop and ask for a replacement, my new xbox will have the correct drive? Do I need to look for a specific s/n scheme?

I've been getting two rings lately, just had one while playing COD4, everyone says its from overheating but my 360 has been in the same place since I brought it xmas 06 and I did not have a problem. Has anyone experienced this?

That doesn't sound too bad of a wait and is in line with my other repairs. As long as it poses no monetary cost to me, I'll manage.

I know someone who sent in their RROD console a while ago and he ended up getting a HDMI model with the new heatsinks. If I can just get out of the "refurb merry-go-round" and get a fresh 360, I'll be happy. This will be my fourth console and I am tired of doing this crap.

The agent told me he was sending me a 30 day LIVE card. That is pretty cool and will make up for the month that I won't have my console. He also said to take off the faceplate. Do I remove the stock faceplate that came with the unit? For some reason I cannot remember what I did the other two times I sent my system in.

my replacement seems ok so far.

all you who are sending in second and third consoles are those the replacement units or did you go buy new ones that broke?

microsoft would had sold an Elite while mine was sent in if they would have had any in Houston Available after xmas.

ugh..they send the box to you UPS 3 day but the label to return the box is UPS ground -_-
I sent it out the same day I got the box and it's been sitting in Memphis for the last 3 days...............

this fucking blows.

Phantasy Star Universe is having a special online event that runs 3 weeks and by time I get my 360 back, it'll be over.

no, the warranty is the same length as it was before, or 90 days, whichever is longer.

well, i guess you can still read this at least...

if it's a custom faceplate, remove it.
you won't get it back.

you don't *have* to remove the faceplate if it's not custom, but what are ya gonna do with an extra faceplate? count them?
i have 3 plain white faceplates now
