It's got a special audio commentary track with Mike Nelson. While the style isn't exactly the same as the old TV show, it is probably the closest that you are ever going to get to new MST3K material. The jokes aren't as fast or frequent, but it's still pretty funny.

The film was supposed to have undergone a new, innovative colorization process. And at some moments, it really does look like a color film from the 1960's. But at other times it looks totally obnoxious and phony. The best effect is achieved when there are low, muted colors....yet for some reason, the colorizers frequently chose to use bright, ugly neon pastels that stick out like a sore thumb.

If you don't already own a copy of Night of the Living Dead, it might be worth picking up at a cheap price. The black & white version of the film is also on the disc so you can watch it untouched (though Mike Nelson's commentary is only available when you watch the color version). If you already own the film on DVD, then check Blockbuster for a copy. That's where I rented mine.

A sample joke:

"See, they installed that cemetery sign...and like every rural sign, within minutes someone blasted it with a shotgun."

I just got back into MST3K since it was taken off of the Sci-Fi network.
Are there any DVDs for it yet? All I can find are 3 episodes and the movie on VHS at Blockbuster.

My dad signed up for this one thing... They've been sending DVDs to our house the past month. So far we have Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Manos: Hands of Fate, Mitchell, and The Wild World of Batwoman along with a 90 minute disc with shorts they've done over the years (like how to speak in public). All of them have featured Joel though.

I just recently picked up volume 5 of the DVDs. Basically 4 of the last episodes. all featuring Mike: Boggy Creek II, Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders, Time Chasers and Touch of Satan.

I need to get volume 4.. if only for Space Mutiny... and how could I forget Overdrawn at the Memory Bank???

.. When was that released? I've never heard of a colorized version of Night. Where did you pick it up?

There was a colorized vhs version that came out back in the 80s, it's amazing and I recommend everyone try to track down a copy. The color job looks like it was done frame by frame entirely with a paintbucket in ms paint. They did a much better job with this version, so it's disappointing.

This color version dvd came out the same week as the Dawn of the Dead boxset.

You should be able to rent a ton of MST3K DVDs from a place like Netflix.

The colorized Night of the Living Dead is a pretty recent release. I was surprised that Blockbuster was renting copies....it only came out last month or so.

"Lucky for that guy, the zombie diet is actually pretty close to the Atkins diet."
