Namco release dates (Ridge Racer 6 = Fall 2005)

You actually believe that?
Wait till RR6 Extreme Reiko Edition for PS3 in Spring 2006,with all the contents that won't make in the Xbox360 version because of the tight schedule.

It's hard not to. I was expecting to see a 150k poly car model and Reiko with advanced PS3 dress physics at E3 but I got none of that. "Okay, they're just saving it for TGS" I thought and just continued spamming my "X360 sux Lolz" button. Then EGM started the RR 360 rumor to which I replied with a Peter Griffin laugh. But when the Xbox Summit arrived, I did my Psycho Mantis "IT CANNOT BE! NO!"

Okay, so MS shelled out the monies for RR. Why the fuck RR? The US Xbox audience doesn't fit at all, and I don't think we'll see sales in Japan above 300k. They could've gone after Tekken or something.

Think about it as draft picks and a salary cap. Both Sony & Microsoft want exclusives and while, you'd like to think they have endless amounts of money to spend, they don't.

So, you've got you're high draft picks that you have to pay a ton to and then you've got some nice veterans that you might be paying too much for, but they help to fill out the team :D

Maybe, just maybe they're trying to get more than just the Xbox audience.

RR5 sold about 600k in Japan, though, I expect RR6 to sell only half that on X360.

It would be a miracle for MS if RR6 sold 300k copies in Japan. That is almost 3/4 of the Xbox's total installed base there

Man, I hope so. I have yet to find "the game" that will make the 360 worth it this Fall. I'm buying the machine regardless, but I wanted something really exciting for the system. RR6 will be that game.

What a surprise!

I'm sure he meant total sells.

The 360 is looking more and more like the ps2. One of the first out the gate, Ridge Racer, a more powerful console launching later, strong EA support. All they need is Tekken at launch. :)

The 360 is also similar to the Dreamcast...

First out of the gate, BIG Namco title, a more powerful console launching later...but no EA support.

The XBOX brand name is in much better shape than anything Sega was, though...soo...

No EA support?
While there may not be a SSX quality title in there, Xbox 360 will be the first platform to get true next gen versions of some of their biggest titles. The difference between Xbox Madden and Xbox 360 should be (hopefully) awesome.

:lol :lol

You better hope the 360 launch is NOTHING like the PS2 launch or you're in real trouble.

I was noting that X360 is also similar to Dreamcast (which is obviously true, as you mistook that statement as a description of the 360) , but that the DC lacked EA support.

shit! Are these US release dates? I would have thought Japan getting RR6 at launch and US early 2006 would have made more sense.

There isn't that much of interest to me except racers on xbox 360 so far. I wonder if its possible for me to buy a 360 and four racing games? RR6 and PGR3, NFS actually looks interesting, and Test drive because the wife loves Hawaii.

I dont think MS would complain at all. That launch was crazy.

And I've been hearing for 5 years how piss poor the PS2 launch lineup was from Xbox/Sega fans.

its an odd pick though. sure, they get an exclusive, but likely only a timed one. And even then its a fake timed one, as the other console isn't even out yet. I'm sure Sony aren't too bothered providing they have something sweet promised for PS3.

In terms of games it did have a shitty launch lineup to most. But in terms of hype, coverage and anticipation it was beyond ridiculous. I bet MS is on their knees nightly in hopes of duplicating that.

Hell yeah.

Another game to help solidify the MS empire on the North American front. I expect Xbox 360 to at least split with the PS3 or slightly win in NA! Good to see the best console will win in the most important market. :D

I expect you'll be disappointed.

When did you go so far over as to lose perspective? Or maybe you're just kidding.

It could happen, but the odds are overwhelmingly in Sony's favor in all 3 markets, IMO. Sony still has the biggest IP's not called Halo or Mario on thier side up to this point. Now, if Microsoft signs GTA, you might have something as that will be the single biggest signing for next generation along w/ Final Fantasy, again IMO.

holy fuck, Ridge Racer 6 is coming this year? it's further along then I thought.

the only explanation that i can think of for why this is possible is that there were rumblings of Ridge Racer 6 for PS2 in January 2004. which means Namco was working on it in 2003. maybe Namco has all the track designs layed out, the gameplay completed, and everything. and now its getting a graphical upgrade for Xbox360 (and later, PS3)..

does that make sense?

Someone on the forum said RR6 has been in development since at least July 2004 (quite plausible, since X360 dev kits were out before then)....

If that is true, then RR6 will be a day one launch title FOR SURE....

As you might know, Ridge Racer games are famous for their super-short development cycles....RR5 was made in 7 or 8 months, if you can believe that!!!

Wasn't Ridge Racer PSP developed in 6 months? Online enabled Ridge Racer 6 is gonna be hawwwwwt. You lose Gotham TV.

This is what I'm saying. I expect GTA4 to be announced for Xbox 360 first. Why would Rockstar have the game come out on a userbase which will be smaller at the time of release!

yeah, Ridge Racer 5 was, i heard, developed in as little as 5 months, but i tend to believe 7-8 months.

the first Playstation Ridge Racer, made in 1994, was made in 6 months, in time for Playstation launch on Dec 3rd

if Ridge Racer 6 is getting from July 2004 until October 2005 for development time
(released in Nov-Dec) that's pretty damn good, as far as it getting a decent amount of time to be made, and not SUPER rushed.

i too am a victim of grief

OMG!

*skeets all over thread*

OH SHIT... excuse me people... i couldnt contain my excitement.

man... that is SWEET. DOA 4 & RR6... and maybe PGR 3 / PDZ

*adds ridge racer 6 purchase to launch list*

I'm still wondering how the fuck Sony lost RR, what a bunch of fucking dumbasses to loose a trademark franchise like that.

if Sony is dumb for losing big titles, what is Nintendo then? The king of losing big 3rd party franchises.

Well, we all know Nintendo is dumb. :)

But RR = Sony in my mind, moreso than FF or Metal Gear! Fucking MS screwing up everything. I will buy a used X360 and a used copy of RR6 just to spite them, and then I will buy a real copy of RR6 on the PS3 (plz plz plz plz).

I find this funny because there was a situation with one of my friends similar to this. When Final Fantasy 7 was announced for Playstation, my Nintendo loving friend went crazy. He said he would only buy a used Playstation and used copy of FF so Sony didn't get any of his money and neither Square for betraying Nintendo. Of course we walked into EB the day before FF7 release and one of their people had gone to the airport that day to get the game. Saw it title screen music playing on TV. I picked up a copy of the game right away and my friends caved in and bought a new copy too. But his check got denied because it was out of city! :lol I ended up buying a copy for him too (He paid me back of course). it was hilarious to see how easily he caved in. He bought a Playstation the next day too. A new one! :lol

But that's different. We all knew the N64 would crash and burn thanks to shitty cartridges. But this...this is just out of the blue!

and them GTA next gen will rape the entire catalog of the machine who lost that exclusive

If sony gets an improved version of Ridge Racer for the launch of the PS3, RR6 for Xbox 360 will virtually mean nothing.

If they don't...

You guys still think M$ isn't ready to play the game for number 1 now. Shoot I bet we haven't begun to see the marketing that's about to hit us. I think what M$ tried to do with the Xbox was test the waters for killer inhouse software. Now with 360 their going after the big boys. See GTA, FF(yes Final Fantasy XI it is a FF title that's all the public needs to hear), RR and next to fall will probably be Metal Gear(it doesn't have to be the same MG that the PS3 gets just a quility title.) MS still has Fable, Elder Scrolls, Knights of the old Republic, Halo, Forza (big titles to name a few) exclusive for now what does Sony have again?

Clearly, X360 is a different beast compared to Xbox...

Although I didn't buy one at launch, Xbox turned out to be a good purchase for me once Ninja Gaiden arrived...

X360 is nearly as appealing as PS2 is to me (that is saying alot, trust me) and will be in my home on day one....

So basically, half your post is speculation and the other half is jumping to conclusions.

GTA is on no system yet, neither PS3 or 360. Whoever gets it will have a huge win, possibly gamemaker.

FFXI is not "an FF title and that's all that matters." You think Japanese consumers are that dumb? Well, they're not. FFXI is a win no matter what for Microsoft, but it's still a port of a several year old game and any effect it would have had is significantly diminished. FFXI is a signal that SquareEnix is supporting 360, and that's all. When they announce other projects we'll be able to correctly gauge how "big" it is. Because if it isn't FFXIII/FFXIV/FFXV, if it isn't Kingdom Hearts, if it isn't Dragon Quest, hell if it isn't even Grandia... what's the point?

Metal Gear Solid 4 was announced for PS3 - exclusively. Metal Gear Solid 2 came to Xbox and PS2, but Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence and MGS3 are not even releasing for Xbox. There is no even hint of a Silicon Knights-esque affiliation to create a remake. No hint of an Ac!d type game. So what's the dig? Hoping and dreaming? It doesn't make a compelling case.

Ridge Racer is a big win, especially symbolically. No doubt about that.

As to what PS3 has, we still don't know - because it's early. We know they have Devil May Cry 4. We know they have Gran Turismo, one of the absolute biggest franchises this gen and a billion times bigger than Forza (perceived quality aside). They have, as established, MGS4. They have Tekken, they have Final Fantasy (and if they have true FF, they have DQ).

What else will they have? Well, that's the point of this whole mini-rant. We don't know! It's too early! All the trouble you (and others lately) are going through to try to pass judgment on ANY systems lineup is pointless, because we simply cannot know how the cards are going to fall. PS3 is further away than 360, there's plenty of inevitable game announcements we haven't heard. Likewise, 360 still has TGS and X05 and Game Convention to shock us with secrets. Revolution has barely revealed anything.

What's most disappointing is that people, in their rush to pass judgment, act like the franchises THEY have are the only ones that matter. This goes for Sony fans, this goes for Microsoft fans. Because to them, it's an "either/or" proposition. It's either Microsoft, or it's Sony. Either Sony wins, or Microsoft does. It's impossible to perceive a world where they both succeed to the specific audience that adopts them. This is the thought process. How can you, in your bullshit, establish which franchises are more important? Almost every one of the things you listed for the Xbox were outsold by PlayStation franchises. Does that mean only PlayStation franchises matter? Or will they matter if they land on Xbox? The same goes for Sony fans. I bet if Knights of the Republic or Ninja Gaiden was announced for PS3, they'd all suddenly "remember" how awesome they were. And, naturally, they'd be the most important franchises of all!

Anyway, that's all. Think before you type.

i hope it's different from PSP RR. i dont want nitrous boosting on a home console racer. i love PSP RR regardless though, just want the console verison to be different.
