XENOSAGA I&II DS WEBSITE

I was honestly never able to get into Xenosaga. I played about 5 mins worth of the PS2 episode I and have never looked back at the series. That said, I played probably more than 250 hours worth of Xenogears over 2 game quests. I LOVED XENOGEARS!

Well, now that Namco/Monolith have decided to give Xenosaga I&II a new treatment (ie: 2D), I think I'm willing to dive back in to this epic space opera. The new screens look fantastic, though I wish Monolith had tried to at least get Gear battles in 3D... oh well. Below I have provided images from the site, along with 2 pieces of artwork. I will neglect to post a babelfish translation of the site, as babelfish really can't translate from Japanese to English even though they think they can. Maybe someone can translate for us?

I believe this next one might be our first glimpse of a GEAR battle, but then again, this entire thread might be dubbed 'teh old.'

Of all the RPG's....Xenosaga...why?!! I thought it would be a entry in the series as opposed to actual versions of the consoles games. Have Namco played their own Xenosaga rpgs?!

Of all the games to give the 3D->2D treatment to, they choose the interactive movies. Hopefully this obvious depreciation of stunning cinematics will result in a gameplay system that doesn't suck. I have cautious optimism for this, only because I though both of these games had potential.

That's just E.S. Dinah. It was in the PS2 version of Episode II too.

I was referring to the fact that it might be the first glimpse of a GEAR battle for the DS, instead of what we have seen in most screenshots (ie: human characters vs monsters). :)

i think this is just a pituful waste of the DS. This game would looks just as good on GBA, and there are more than a few GBA games that look better.

Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't go with using 3D backgrounds and 2D sprite characters like Xenogears and Grandia.

Judging by FFIII they could have done all 3D and come out with better results.

I wonder if this'll end up being the only way to play Xenosaga I in Europe?

The PS2 games were just unplayable, even for me. If this comes to America chances are I'll buy it, I bought Lunar : (

Yeah, but it's Namco we are talking about... not SE.

?? Namco are pretty darn good with 3D graphics. Even if we are just talking Monolith I got the impression that the Xenosagas, technically are pretty good for PS2 rpgs. Maybe not the best but pretty decent.

Yeah, the Xenosaga series if anything is very well done visually.

There probably being done on a tiny budget then? Trying to recoup the money spent on Monolith's lavish console rpgs?

Btw, wasn't Baten Kaitos announced for the DS? Was that a port or a new game?

It's been removed from the release list on Namco's site. I think they just moved Baten Kaitos DS to Gamecube.
