Namco x Capcom - First Impressions

Well, I bought the yesterday game at NCSX.com. Hopefully, I'll have the game on Sat. because if I don't, I'll probably have to wait for Tues. to get it (due to Mon. being a holiday). Can't wait because I've been dying to play another SRPG. I tried getting into Stella Deus and made it to Chapter 3 but didn't have the desire to finish it. And since I don't have the means to play Japanese Gamecube games, Fire Emblem was out of the question (and that game is getting translated anyways...) Hopefully, this game proves to be more entertaining then SD. :D
 
Holy shit this game is going to be LONGASS! I'm currently at episode 20, and I've already clocked a good 27 hours. From what I've been hearing, it seems there are about 47 episodes in total, so that's going to be insane. The plot is still VERY good, but the voice to text ratio has dropped off to about 1:50 now or less, obviously they couldn't afford to voice the shitloads of text in the game. The game's still really easy, but at least it stays somewhat fresh as you keep getting new characters to use and as you level characters you have you get new attacks and stuff. There's also a good mix of new and old enemies to battle every map and the maps are all new, no reuse so far which means I've seen about 25 different maps so far. :D

You make me feel bad... so I might well go out and pay full price for it now. But Namco already has the money, remember. Only the stores are getting money once it's left Namco's trucks.

Yeah that's true, actually don't feel bad. I'm just wondering if this is a result of being in Japan (Tokyo specifically) for a amount of time. It seems that's the mentality many gamers get. Why buy retail at full price when I can pick it up for cheap used after it doesn't do all that well! ^^;;

And on that note...
I've gotten to episode 23! Hori Taizou showed up in ep22 (YAY!!! HE ROCKS!) and ep23 starts with the introduction of Strider Hiryuu! Good stuff, I guess I can't stop playing at ep22 today. Clock is at 30 hours and counting. ^_^
 
At about chapter 10 right now... Fun game but I don't see how any of my character will ever die. :p It would be nice if they would release an English version, although I doubt I'd sit through 80-100 hrs (typical length of super robot war games) just to play the game again. I think localization probably would simply cost too much for them to bother, unless they reduce dialogues to sumaries and probably cut out voice altogether. And IMO, some dialogues really put me to sleep anyway...
 
Forget a petition, it's fucking useless. If you want to be heard, write a letter to Namco Hometek explaining that you would truly appreciate the game to be released Stateside and get all your friends to write letters too. Not having any set template for the letters would help too. Companies couldn't give two shits about internet petitions but if they noticed a flood of real physical letters from consumers popping in they *might* reconsider.

I wrote a letter to Namco last thursday expressing my interest in purchasing a U.S. release of NxC. In return I received a reply by a Namco rep who wrote;

"Thank you for contacting Namco Hometek's Customer Support Department.

I'm sorry, but there is no information available at this time. Please
check our website http://www.Namco.com for future updates.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact Namco.

The quality isn't awesome since I don't have proper capture equipment, but that should be good enough until the OST is out. There are two mp3s because I recorded one while the theme was running to get most of the theme in until it looped, then i recorded the first 90 seconds or so again to get the starting beats that weren't part of the loop. Hope that helps!

Dude, that rocks! Exactly as cool as you described (Old theme remixed). Kinda suprised they went with the Dig Dug 2 theme rather than inserting more of the original one, but it still rocks hard. NAMCO NEEDS TO BRING THIS GAME OVER ><
 
After hearing the recorded theme I want this game more O_O Make a petition to bring this to the west! (and Tales of Rebirth+Phantasia+Eternia while you're at it :D)
 
I just played my sixth battle or so. Keeps getting better and better... I just hope that one day I will get to pick my team out of all these characters. The hotness factor of a team consisting of KOS-MOS, Lei-Lei, Chun-Li, Felicia, Juli, Taki and Valkyrie might be too much for my poor heart.

And those character pairings are really cool. There's probably a whole lot of stuff that I'm missing since I hardly understand a word of the written dialogue and maybe 20% of the spoken, but Felicia + King is excellent. Both are cat-people (in a sense) and both run orphanages... I'm pretty sure they're both religious people too. And since Felicia is also a showgirl, it makes sense that she'd know Wonder Momo. And Sakura knowing them both (at least by name), since she's a fangirl of pretty much everything.
 
Just wanted to add that I've played this game for a little over an hour, and finished 6 battles so far - and I'm loving every moment of it! I don't understand a single thing, besides the painfully obvious, but I definitely look forward to an indepth FAQ in regards to a translation.
 
So, can anyone explain (minus spoilers) what the SEX content of this game is?
I notice it has the CERO mark on the back.

Of course, I'm not convinced but I wouldn't be surprised at all if this title gets localized in the US. Unless Namco or Capcom themselves said it wouldn't be translated I see no reason to even doubt it.

It makes logical business sense; the success of Nippon Ichi titles and the powerhouse of Namco/Capcom characters (incredible fan service) gives it much more of a chance than the random quirky Japanese titles. Even those are becoming localized more and more each day, E3 05 was a good example of how willing publishers are in the wake of Katamari-like successes.

Still, its nice to hear some confirmation that the title is getting brought over (where did you ge this info btw?). I think it would definitely find a market and do well here, relatively speaking of course.

Super Robot War Faqs have story translation. The same probably will go for Namco X Capcom since it's pretty much just Super Robot War with different characters. :p

Btw did anyone get the LE with soundtrack? Wanna share? :p

I agree, and I think that petition that Riskbreaker linked is overly optimistic.. there's maybe a slight chance of it getting brought to the States, but the chance of it coming to the UK is less than nil, since there's quite a few of the games which NxC draws characters from that never got released here.

LIKE XENOSAGA FOR EXAMPLE.

(Sorry, that's kinda personal with me, a while ago I had been trying to find out on and off for about a year or so why Namco couldn't be arsed to release that over here, and all I got was crap about the translation being too expensive or not being able to find a publisher. Eventually I just gave up and imported the thing).

Most likely it's similar to DoA's "sexual content" where the illustrations of Morrigan and Lilith look really overtly sexy, plus Morrigans' first-attack move is "Orgasm Wire" in Katakana. :lol
 
Felicia and Morrigan are "sexual content" just by appearing. Can't tell you about the writing but I'd be surprised if every second thing Morrigan says is an innuendo (like in her Darkstalkers win quotes).

Just for reference, Darkstalkers Collection is Cero 15 and has the same icon, most likely due to Morr and Fel (and Lilith).
 
Game is getting a bit of a difficulty level by around 40 hours in. You have to play smart and know when to use skills to keep everyone alive. Still not difficult, but at least you can't just walk right into the enemies and pound them.

The variety of personal skills in the game is great, lots of spell-like skills + lots of auto-skills that help make the characters unique. Gaining new attack animations is pretty satisfying and makes you want to use all the characters which wouldn't be so bad if there weren't so many of them ^^;

The game basically breaks down into 4 battle arcs. The first 3 battles/eps/maps are consists of three pre-selected teams made from your party and then after you've finished them all and leveled up everyone a bit you move onto the final map of the arc and get to select 6 or so of the 12-14 units you get.

Only complaint really is that Rockman is awful. Using the Dash timeline where he's a wimpy little non-helmet dude was a stupid desicion. Would've rather had it based on the original or X series where each of his attacks would be a classic boss weapon. Also Dash means no Zero; but I guess we get Kobun :\
 
Tron Bonne > Zero, so I'm happy with the Dash decision! :lol

Damn I've been so busy this weekend with family stuff I had no time to play NxC at all. Still at ep27... ;_;

Cool guy in red > Pirate-wannabe in pink

And Roll is lame too so yea...

If it was based on the old ones we could've been fighting Scissor Man and Ice Man and Fire Man, etc...

Dash was just a lame cop-out for Rockman.

Hey, I like the games :) I just think it's a boring worldview compared to the original series and was a bad choice to incorperate into NxC when there were better alternatives.

I like the worldview and in a lot of regards it fits well into the whole idea behind NxC. The characters have much more personality and are lively. That's something the original megaman and X lack. Sure, there's a ton more villains and characters from OM and X you could jam into NxC but what's the point if everyone's flatout boring in all regards. At least with Dash, you get the awesome Servbots/Kobun and Tron Bonne who are like the best characters Capcom has come up with from their entire Megaman/Rockman line from the last 10 years.

Shouta is correct, Tron Bonne is the best thing to happen to the MM series, well, ever. Mega Man, while starring in fun games, is kind of a boring character. Meanwhile, Tron Bonne is super awesome!

Zero looks like hes straight from Power Rangers himself. A damn Megazord with hair.

Not that I dislike Zero, but I love Tron Bonne.
