Name me some good GBA puzzle games

No. The GBA version is the worse version of this game I've played...though I guess that's only relevant if you've played it before so: moot point

ZOOO !

And Yeah Guru Logic Champ

Simple 2000 Itsudemo Puzzle can be good too since it's really cheap.

Considering the power of the ARM9 processor(or lack thereof), I'd say it's a fantastic port! I'd rate it at 90% of the arcade version.

Technical details have nothing to do with my post. It could have been limited due to programming or technical details but it was still limited was my point

A good game, yes, but my least favorite version of te game that I've played

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Of the stuff mentioned, I've already got Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Wario Ware. The original GB Tetris suffices for me as far as that goes. As I suspected before I made this post, GBA has a disappointing number of puzzle games, which sucks because it's a genre that fits well with a portable. I've always meant to get Puyo Pop, so maybe I'll try and track that down.

Good man.

Wario Ware Inc. is the best.

Also Good:

Puyo Pop
ChuChu Rocket!
Snood
Tang Tang
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
The Lost Vikings
Mario VS Donkey Kong
Columns Crown
Denki Blocks
It's Mr. Pants
Super Bust-a-Move
ZooCube
Rampage Puzzle Attack
Klonoa: Empire of Dreams is sort of a puzzle game
Bookworm
Ultimate Brain Games

The Mr. Driller and KuruKuruKururin games are good import puzzlers

Tetris Worlds is kind of nice, except it doesn't control as well as the original GB Tetris. I'd seek that out instead.

Not even. There is some serious slowdown. Sometimes it's so bad it actually distracts from that game, which is hard considering it's one of the best puzzle games ever made :(

Just a quick comparison...

GBA
-16.7 MHz 32bit Custom ARM7 with embedded memory RISC
-256 KB WRAM (external of CPU), 32 KB + 96 KB VRAM (in CPU)
-8bit 2 channel sound
-32,768 possible colors, 511 simultaneous in character mode, 32,768 simultaneous in bitmap mode
-128 sprites, max size 64x64
-horizontal, vertical, diagonal scrolls
-240x160 resolution
-Max ROM size: 256 Mbit (32 MB)

CPS2
-11.8 MHz 16bit Custom 68000 CPU
-64 KB WRAM, 68 KB VRAM, 2KB RAM on Z80
-8 MHz 8bit Zilog Z80 SPU + 4 MHz Q sound chip (16 channels)
-32bit Color (4096 on screen), 16 per tile
-900 objects, 16x16
-3 scroll faces
-384x224 resolution
-Max ROM size: 322 Mbit (40.25 MB)

...Puzzle Fighter hardly pushed CPS2, a perfect GBA port should have been entirely possible. As should most CPS2 games actually. If GBA had a dedicated audio chip (which could've easily been handled by the dormant GBC Z80 in it already) it would've outclassed NeoGeo, CPS2, F3 and most 16 bit arcade hardware.

In the end I'm just left wishing for a true sequel for DS or PSP :(

I'm just curious, to the Gurulogi Champ supporters in this thread: Where'd you find out about the game? Was it from similar threads like this one in the past? Traditionally myself, Brandonnn, and one or two others have been the ones to mention the game in these threads (which are frequent to the point of absurdity, by the way - is it really necessary?), but I couldn't help but notice a new batch of people recommending it this time.

I guess I'm just wondering if our constant pimping of the game paid off, cause it would sure feel great to know that others were turned onto the game, and are now turning others onto the game, as a result of our little efforts. I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that nobody would ever check out the game, and figured I should just shut up about it from now on. Sad and unbelievably horrible as that would be. Then again, it took 2 years of semi-frequent pimping and $20-30 price tags for Technic Beat and Drill Land to catch on around here, so maybe the years-delayed and long overdue Gurulogi explosion has finally begun?

Hmm, I dunno...my cart doesn't slowdown that much. Infact, hardly ever....unless there's a shitload blocks breaking. It may be possible you got one of the numerous faulty/defected carts floating around in circulation.

Interesting facts jarrod. Didn't know GBA specs outclassed CPS2. If this is the case then yeah, we should of had perfect ports of all the CPS2 games by now.

You and me both brother....preach on! A perfect port with wireless/WiFi multiplayer support for PSP would give me a permanent boner!!!!!!

jarrod said:
Yeah, I'd like that.... but more likely would simply be another port (probably with the added DC modes).

I'll GLADLY take those DC modes...especially that Tetris Attack clone. Man, that variation on Tetris Attack simply RAWX with a Puzzle Fighter coat of paint.

DO IT SONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Super Puzzle Fighter II, Chu Chu Rocket, and Xi/Devil Dice/Bombastic.

The latter only exists in my dreams.

No. The GBA version is the worse version of this game I've played...

The fact that it fits in my pocket makes it my favorite version, perfection be damned.

It's Mr Pants
Fresh gameplay, 250 puzzles to solve + 2 additional modes with good replayability for high scores.
Most of the puzzles are quite hard, but there's a help function that tells you when you made a mistake when enabled.

I'm a fan from the bginning ;p

Compile was what attract me at first, plus the silly art design.

When the game was finally released, I immediatly fell in love :-*

No one has mentioned Happy Panechu! yet. First GBA game with tilt control :)

And Mr Driller Ace is the best Mr Driller version.

Hatena Satena is a little known picross puzzler that some people seem to really enjoy.
I'd mention Guru Logic Champ as well but I think that point has been made already.

The best BY FAR Puzzle game for handheld is Pokemon Puzzle. It's Panel de Pon for the GBA, and plays exactly like the SNES version. Except for the lame sound effects.

Please Nintendo. PLEASE make Pokemon Puzzle from the N64 for the DS. Or at least remake Panel de Pon. Best puzzle game ever. One of the best overall games I have ever played.

GBA version of puzzle fighter was a port of the playstation version not the arcade version.. very different codebase and processing power!

tunes are from the arcade version tho as obviously (apart from secret song that had to be cut in half and compressed really cleverly to fit in the rom) the rest made more sense to use the chip music from the arcade version converted to .IT format on the gba rather than trying to play compressed red-book audio

there is sadly some slowdown but if you only knew all the hacks, tricks and other coding feats it took to get it even running on the GBA i'm sure you'd be more understanding :)
