Napple Tale, A Game That Just Won't Work On US Dreamcasts?

So I picked up Napple Tale on eBay. I had been wanting this game forever and the auction was a total clusterfuck (I ended up giving the seller a negative feedback for ripping me off on shipping and & handling, and it took about two months to arrive) so I was really looking forward to playing it. And to my shock and horror, the game won't load.

I have a US DC, one that was bought on day one. I play tons of import games on it via a boot disc and have never had any problems whatsoever. But with Napple Tale, after I hit start at the title screen, it goes to a screen with a bunch of tiles that move which immediately freezes. The music still goes on though.

The disc itself has a few tiny scratches, but its not much; I've had much worse load up just fine. So as much as I don't want to blow another $50+ on eBay, I wanted to ask, has there been any documented problems with the game? I heard elsewhere that it just has issues with American DCs and that any copy will not load. Is this true? And for the sake of curiosity, what other games exhibit this same problem?

Snapple has a game now? Cool. So what, do you just run around collecting different flavors or fruits or something? Can you win a copy by drinking Snapple?

...Napple Tale? No S? Just Napple? Well fuck this then....

I haven't gotten all that far into the game.

That said, let's look at this from an ethical standpoint. You own a legitimate copy of the game which won't play on your hardware. Rather than taking the time to rip it using a serial cable, patching the image, and then re-burning it to disc, you'd be entirely justified in downloading a pre-patched image.

So someone posts something that contributes nothing to the thread and just tells the world that he's ignorant. Hurray for GAF.

It plays on my chipped DC (and my import DC).

But to answer your question... sorta... the bootdiscs on DC are not perfect. That is to say, each of them have their own compatibility problems. Heck, my friends who used boot discs for Sakura Taisen 3... I think two of them used the gameshark one. One played the game all the way through without problem. Another said that the game crashed on him every few times that he was scared to play the game for fear of playing for an hour and losing it before a save point. But regardless of whether you're using Gameshark, Utopia or whatever, they all seem to work differently.

So bottom line: Try another bootdisc. Or since you have a legit copy, you might as well download the pirated copy. Or you can always chip your DC... I personally wouldn't be able to stand going through a boot disc for every game I put in.

I want a PSP port!

Actually, I don't get why we don't see more DC to PSP ports? Similar specs and the exact same control layouts even. Virtua Tennis looks fantastic... just imagine how great JGR, Grandia II, F355 and others would work on the little guy. :)

If the DC catalog is to be visited for finding games to bring to portables, Grandia II is definitely arcadish enough for its genre to suit a handheld RPG with its overworld visibility for enemies -- ridding the gameplay of annoying random encounters -- and its fast paced battle system.

Games with involving stories and play can work on a portable if they also have some kind of action component, so an action adventure like the Shenmue titles might work as mobile games.

I played Napple Tale on a US DC just fine, although I can't remember what boot disc I used (I have Gameshark with dongle, the Cheats N Codes disc, and DC-X). It was probably the Cheats N Codes disc because that's the one that has given me the least trouble. I bought mine new though so no scratches.

admission to piracy gets you banned around here.

When did you become such a douche ?

Every one of your posts now is "Don't do that, don't do this" When did the poster say he pirated the game ?

I have modchip in my Xbox and HDLoader for my PS2. You are either gonna ban me for that, or ban me for being a wisearse, whichever gives you a bigger hard on.... douche.
