So he should rush the story and get them to Raftel already? Dude, even Silvers Rayleigh said it. The important thing is the journey, and that will be the key point when they'll have to decide what to do with the "One Piece". This just reads as someone who's tired of the current arc and maybe you have a point there, but wanting Oda to actually rush everything only for the sake of achieving the goal is quite perplexing...

You need to have progress.

Naruto's chapters continually raised the bar and were directed towards a specific goal. Every single one of them. The ultimate goal is to united people and become hokage. That is Naruto Ninja way. Part 2 has been a mess, but it continually dealt with defeating the Atakashi and finding Sasuke. Every arc brought him one step closer to those ultimate goals and it was clear and defined at how it was.

One Piece is employing a similar effect. Luffy wants to become king of the pirates and find One Piece. It's an adventure as you said, but that is also the issue. Not everything on the adventure has been progressing the main arc The first standout point was SkyPiea. When I first watched it, I thought it was a filler arc. The only connection to the main world with this story was that fact that Roger went there. They even introduce an overpowered character, who is completely separate from the main world. You could completely remove it and nothing would be missing other than a few tidbits or notes. This is the issue Oda has. He goes off on these tangents at times where it feels like no steps are being taken at all to approaching that end game. Another good example of this is Ippo. The author spent so long with title defense for Ippo of the Japanese belt, when the end game has always been the world title. The last time Martinez was relevant was way back in the 300's. Ippo finally just got to the world stage in the thousands. You get less than 50 chapters a year. Spending that time on an arc like Skypiea was a waste when the world he created was so disconnected from the current. Even currently in One Piece, this arc is the first since Whitebeard's death and the reunion of the crew. This is nearly 3 to 4 years ago. A lot of times the actual story development was done in 1-3 chapters with the supporting cast rather than involving the main crew. Luffy feels detached from the world. Him vs the current baddie is the first real time we are getting to see Luffy test his might against someone who was actually introduced as a major opponent prior to this chapter. We're we can see his new scale of power.

That's not true at all. I don't want to continue shitting up this thread with non-Naruto related stuff, but Skypeia brought us

1. Another poneglyph and more backstory into the world
2. The introduction of Blackbeard and his crew
3. Dials, which both Ussop and Nami have used a number of times and Nami has integrated into her weapon
4. The reason for a new ship and the decision to go to Water 7 in the first place
5. The introduction of haki
6. The introduction of Doflamingo, Kuma, the Gorosei and Whitebeard

5 chapters? Really? Somehow everythings gonna come to a close? I know its been a clusterfuck for quite a few years already, but still.

Yeah and if Skypeia is related to the mystery of the one piece's existence, it would make the arc even more important. Oda hasn't outright done pointless shit in the series with all the reveals we've had so far. Maybe except for Davy Back Fight, but that arc was pretty terrible.

I have to say I'll miss the habit if reading Naruto. I really used to enjoy reading and re-reading chapters. This last year tho....I can't understand why the author thought this was the best way to approach it. The story used to have heart. Loss and acceptance was a major theme. Now all of that has been erased and we are left with this odd power up super hero manga. The sheer number of flashback chapters we have gotten this arc has been ridiculous. Filling in the blanks and interpreting stuff is part of what makes reading manga great sometimes. I think the best that could be done now is a warm, happy ending. Some of you have mentioned Gantz and its big dumb ending. Gantz was awesome up until the very end so it gets a pass.

It's about time. I loved the series as a child/teen, but grew out of it in university. I stopped watching the japanese anime after the first arc of Shippuden, which was extremely disappointing to me.

I kept tabs on the story by playing the video games though, lol.

I will read the last few chapters for closure.

Damn, that really is the end of an era for me, over a whole decade since I discovered Naruto through the anime series due to having broadband DSL internet for the first time and discovering the beauty of torrents.

In the beginning, I never felt I would loved such a show so much. It really wasn't until the time jump that my interest waned greatly and felt it hasn't been as great since. I loved the series so much in the beginning, it really felt it had a lot of heart at time, and I'll admit it, over 10 years ago in at the end of the Land of the Waves arch, I cried like a little girl at Haku and Zabuza's death.

Damn, I can't believe that was over a decade ago!

I hope the animes pacing will improve now, knowing they wont have to worry about catching up to the manga.

They're already pretty close to the manga, I don't think we'll be seeing much of a pace increqse due to that, there's really little motivation for them to increase pace instead of keeping the current pace and milking the anime for a few more weeks.

Kishi wrote himself into a corner with Madara and Obito, hence shoehorning Kaguya with no context and the tragically long war arc. War should have ended with Obito, like 20 chapters wasted on Madara and Kaguya in the end for no reason.

5 weeks to end everything, INCLUDING the most highly anticipated fight of the series? Not a fucking chance.
It really is annoying. Madara at least had the background of being the one who played Obito like a fiddle and had everything set up. So defeating him at least would be momental. But instead we got Kaguya who had pretty much zero connections to anyone and zero personality on top of that (a female with zero personality, par for the course I guess). Black Zetsu ended up being the true "mastermind" who is as underwhelming as a brick and got sealed like a bitch.

So yeah, instead of the heroes triumphing over Madara and beating him to a pulp, we get a moon rabbit princess whatever, then Madara dies with a whimper. Obito got a better sendoff.

Reminder to everyone that "The Last: Naruto The Movie" will be the epilogue of the story, that's why it feels rushed.

Oh so anyone who wants to be done with the damn thing outside of Japan has to wait like a year after the movie is shown in Japan to get a localized copy?

Awesome

Not trying to sound snarky towards you but that's kind of obnoxious for non-Japanese fans

Basically the absence of Jiraya made me stop caring so much. But it will be sad not seeing it anymore. Seems like a lot of loose ends will be left unfinished.

Don't worry, I'm pissed off too. I wanted to watch that, but I can now watch the anime episodes while the Movie is out on Blu-Ray or use Torrent to get it.

Kind of hard to believe Naruto is finally ending after all these years with Bleach right behind it. One Piece is going to have to take up the mantle alongside Fairy Tail and Toriko as the next Big 3.

This got so bad I had to stop reading it after 2 years.

I've never really followed Naruto but to think that a series that was so popular back when I was still in school is only ending now, that's pretty insane to me. Talk about the end of an era...

Lol no, and I'm saying this even as someone that watches/reads FT

If you'd said Fairy Tail Zero, I might have agreed with you though. Only 3 chapters into the spinoff and it's already a better manga than Fairy Tail

:\ not sure what to say, I have been reading this from the start and it is gonna feel weird not having new chapters every week.

I also stopped reading bleach after aizen, should I pick that back up?

Read the chapters were old man Yamamoto finally busts out his bankai and then drop it again.

An Era ends.

I remember the good old Dattebayo subs or the groups before that (I forgot their names.. Something with Baka? Something with Fish? Bakafish?) And I also remember waking up every Friday morning just to watch Naruto before school. Man that were the times.

I also remember the horrible Naruto anime fillers (first anime) which were about 100 episodes long lol and also the discussion that the timeskip will soon be there.

Also back then friday/saturday were the manga days... so much fun discussing the utter shit which was the manga after a few years - the fights were never really bad (except Sasukes asspulls like using Manda to protect himself from Deidaras explosion lol).

Awh the memories. Jump won't let it end this easily I guess... there will surely be more (maybe in anime form to make it more horrible). It's literally THE cashcow for Jump in the west.

Also Shokugeki no Soma is the best manga ever

I love this series apart from the filler. Pretty good themes, decent storylines, awesome characters. Great universe in general. I don't follow Naruto regularly anymore but I do catch up every half a year or so.

More like one of the best. Brought me back to OP after the terrible ass sky and desert arcs.

I hope that was a troll post, otherwise I have zero clue what the hell you are thinking. I can see distaste for Skypiea based on how things play out, but really, the only redeemable portions of the Davy Back Fights are Afro Luffy and Aokiji showing up at the end. It is actually the worst arc in the series.

End of an era.....greatest shounen anime (alongside FMA).

How is sasuke vs naruto going to finish in 5 chapters.

Man I've been watching Naruto since I was 12 ;___;

Maybe in the anime, I don't watch that shit, in the manga however it was the funniest arc and being funny is the only thing it tried to be to begin with, on top of actually having a different approach for once. Skypiea had like two volumes of the most boring, redundant flashback and then ends on an even lower note, the Enel finish was super lame. The best things in that arc happen outside of Skypiea. Before that, you had an entire arc wasted on Vivi, the lamest character of the series, plus her whole kin no one gives a shit about. And even in the OP realm, letting that bird man live was one step too far. Also, more ho-hum fights. ,,I can now 1 hit Ko Crocodile because I bleed... or something'' - great?

I liked Skypiea and Davy Back a hell of a lot. Relevance to the main plot =/= enjoyment. Not everything has to be a world shattering event, or involve the World Government, or the Shichibukai, or whatever. Afro Luffy is one of the funniest segments in the entire series, and Enel and his priests made for some damn good villains. That said, from Water 7/Enies Lobby up until Marineford was like the golden age for an already awesome series.

On topic, I'm sad to see Naruto end, but it's time. The war arc has gone on for as long as the original Dragonball series, and everything should have probably ended years ago. It was a fun ride, perhaps moreso in the beginning, and it's going to be weird without it, but when it's time, it's time.

End of an era for me.

What was the biggest manga in Shonen Jump before NarutOnepiecBleach? Did anything as big as DBZ come along before the big three arrived?

It was Dragon Ball.

One Piece came out in 1997, two years after DB ended. IIRC it was actually intended from the start to be the next Dragon Ball, or at least, one out of a pool of half a dozen mangas that Jump was betting on for that role.

It's true though, the story is going no where, with minimal character development...

Naruto has consistently out-shined One Piece for years now.

Considering that the Naruto war-arc has been happening for years now, this statement is objectively false. In fact, with that first statement, are you sure that "it's" isn't referring to Naruto?

A few questions

The Last Naruto Movie is written by Kishimoto correct? Its canon?

If so what are the odds we'd get a subbed version relatively soon and when is that coming out anyways, December correct?

I know Naruto movies have a history of taking forever to get subbed, or at least my search of them.

I'm like 10-20 chapters behind. I wonder what happens to Naruto's arm since the movie has it bandaged.

I thought that arc (Skypeia) was a filler when i watched the anime, to my surprise it was canon.

The movie won't get subbed till it comes out on Blu-Ray in Japan
